    STOP CAFTA.com
"Please join our nationwide movement to STOP Congress from approving the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA).
Although the immediate threat posed by CAFTA is job losses, the most important reason to oppose CAFTA is that it would be a steppingstone to the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).  Congressional approval of the FTAA would spell the end of U.S. Independence and our American way of life.

Job Drought Continues - by Paul Craig Roberts
In March the US economy created a paltry 111,000 private sector jobs, half the expected amount. Following a well-established pattern, US job growth was concentrated in domestic services: waitresses and bartenders, construction, administrative and waste services, and health care and social assistance. In the 21st century the US economy has ceased to create jobs in knowledge industries or information technology (IT). It has been a long time since any jobs were created in export and import-competitive sectors.

  • Trade deficit soars
The U.S. trade deficit climbed to $58.3 billion in January, the second-highest level in history, as Americans' appetite for foreign consumer products and automobiles hit record highs. The deficit with China was pushed higher by a surge in textile shipments, reflecting the end of global quotas. - (Not so much "Americans' appetitie" for cheap foreign goods as international corporations appetite for cheap slave labor.)

  • U.S. Trade Deficit at All-Time High
  • China is winning the trade war with the United States - at least 1.5 million Americans have lost their jobs
A report by the Economic Policy Institute, a Washington-based think tank released Tuesday concluded that the rise in the U.S. trade deficit with China from 1989 to 2003 cost 1.5 million Americans their jobs. The report found that 199,000 new jobs were created by the growth in trade with China. But the number of jobs lost -- 1.7 million -- resulted in a net loss to American workers, it said.

Florida: Associates of Accused Palestinian Businessman Convicted of hiring illegal middle-eastern migrants
A jury has convicted a business partner and an accountant of a Palestinian-American businessman accused of hiring illegal immigrants to work at his Orlando-area tourist shops, finding the two men guilty on assorted conspiracy, fraud, tax-evasion and money-laundering charges. Mohammed Saleem Khanani, a partner of Jesse Maali in Big Bargain World and Sports Dominator stores and longtime accountant David Portlock, were convicted after an eight-week trial in Orlando's federal court.

Both men - and Maali - were charged with 53 counts of hiring illegal immigrants to work in their stores. Eighteen other charges alleged they conspired to use front companies to launder $4.4 million, secretly paid workers and failed to pay federal income and employment taxes.

Maali, 59 a millionaire gift-shop proprietor and owner of several restaurants, was severed from the case and his trial delayed so he could undergo treatment for lung cancer. Khanani, 53, was convicted on 60 counts, including 42 of the 53 original counts of hiring illegal immigrants. The jury also found that Khanani hired the undocumented workers - many from the Middle East - to gain "competitive advantage" over other International Drive merchants.

Pest Experts Want to Slow Spread of Asian 'Free-Trade' Bio-Terror Beetle
Ohio -- Scientists suspect the insect arrived in cargo ships from Asia about a decade ago. A tree-killing beetle that wiped out millions of ash trees in Michigan has grabbed a foothold in Toledo, and pest experts now are focused on stopping it from spreading through the Midwest. New infestations discovered in the last few months indicate that the beetle called the emerald ash borer is moving south into Ohio.

The recovery from the recession of 2001 has been described as “jobless.” In fact, an analysis of the latest Census Bureau data shows that between March of 2000 and March of 2004, the number of adults working actually increased, but all of the net change went to immigrant workers.
