(Black) Suspects arraigned in 'brutal' Bay City Thanksgiving homicide (of White man that was an 'acquaintance')
Steven A. BouzaDeMarckeon M. "Marcus" Jackson BAY CITY, MI -- On Halloween, a 20-year-old Bay City man was given a year of probation and a chance to avoid having a felony on his record. Less than a month later, police allege he and a teen stabbed a man to death and set his home on fire. Bay County District Judge Timothy J. Kelly on Friday, Dec. 2, arraigned DeMarckeon M. "Marcus" Jackson on single counts of open murder, felony murder, and larceny in a building. The first two charges carry maximum punishments of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The larceny count is a four-year felony. The day of the arraignment would have been the 60th birthday of Steven A. Bouza, the man police say Jackson and 16-year-old Rodrick Williams killed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24 or the night before. The larceny count Jackson faces stems from him allegedly stealing a video gaming console, cash, and motor vehicles from Bouza's residence, court records show. Magistrate Doner described the alleged crime to be "a heinous, brutal, and senseless act." An autopsy performed Saturday indicated Bouza had been stabbed multiple times. The fire was then set to cover up the slaying. The crime was not random, the suspects having been acquaintances of Bouza. Bouza's kindness toward kids was well-known. He would have cookouts and play games with neighborhood children. - (Black-on-white)

Carl Barrett, Arlis Gordon, Paul FarrLaylah PetersenOne of three men responsible for the shooting death of Laylah Petersen has been sentenced to 65 years in prison. The sentence also carries 35 years of extended supervision. A jury in September found Carl Barrett, 21, guilty of first degree reckless homicide and three counts of recklessly endangering safety. Prosecutors said he fired shots at a home near 58th and Fairmount, where Petersen was inside with her grandfather, on November 6, 2014. Petersen was hit and killed by the gunfire. Her family members and friends are still mourning her loss. "I have nightmares after that," said Marquis Bevineau, a family friend. "I spend time just sitting at home, not sleeping for two or three days. My health has deteriorated so much i can't work right now," Bevineau added. Following the arrests of Barrett and two other men, Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn said the shooters likely targeted the wrong house. "Both defendants shot at this house from the front, at a time of day when any reasonable person would realize individuals were likely to be inside," the prosecutor said. "Even though the 'wrong house' was shot up, the intent was to shoot at a probably occupied residence." 25-year old Paul Farr, who police said drove Barrett and a second shooter, Arlis Gordon, to the home was previously sentenced to five months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of aiding a felon. - (Black-on-white)

(White) woman accused of the brutal murder of a (black) homeless man gets a new hearing
Duran BaileyKirstin LobatoA woman accused of killing a homeless man, cutting off his private parts and leaving his body in a dumpster will get a new hearing. It's a 15 year old case that shocked people in 2001. Now, the Nevada Supreme Court has ordered an evidentiary hearing on several claims raised by Kirstin Lobato. The court is giving Lobato the opportunity to once again prove her innocence because of new alibis and evidence. Lobato maintains her innocent and so does her friend. "I cannot believe after all this time they still believe she's guilty," said Michelle Revelle, a friend of Lobato. Prosecutors say the July 8th, 2001 incident stemmed from a drug deal. 44-year-old Duran Bailey was stabbed to death, his teeth knocked out, skull cracked, and genitals cut off. During the trial, prosecutors relied heavily on a statement Lobato gave police. She said that a man tried to sexually assault her and she fought back. That attack allegedly happened in late May. Bailey was murdered almost two months later. Lobato claims she was 170 miles away in Panaca the day Duran bailey was found dead. - (Black-on-white)

(Black) Man resentenced in home invasion and gang-rape attack on (White) students: 'Details would turn stomach'
Rederick Louis MeltonJared Holmes - roommate of victimDylan Vance - White victim of home invasion in Grand Rapids, 2012GRAND RAPIDS — A Grand Rapids man convicted in a brutal home invasion and assault of college students in which a young woman was raped returned to a Kent County courtroom for resentencing this week, but it did not change the outcome. Rederick Louis Melton received the same sentence he got three years ago; a minimum of 43 years in prison for the June, 2012 attack on college students.Several young men were pistol-whipped; a woman was beaten and raped. “I’ve been on the bench almost 30 years now. Outside of murder cases, this and one other case are the worst I’ve seen,’’ Kent County Circuit Court Judge George S. Buth said.
Melton is one of five people charged in the home invasion, armed robbery and sexual assault. He was resentenced based on the Michigan Supreme Court’s July 2015 decision that sentencing guidelines mandating prison terms are unconstitutional. Judges should use them only in an advisory capacity, justices said. The victims held a party in their home near Grand Valley State University’s Grand Rapids campus. After the party ended, they heard a knock at the door in the predawn hours. Two men came inside, saying they had lost a wallet. Three others came in through a back door. Several men staying at the home were beaten and robbed. “I was figuring to die,’’ one of the victims testified at a 2012 court hearing. The assailants took turns sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman living in the house. Police arrested five people, including a 14-year-old. The adults are all serving lengthy prison terms. The rape “went way beyond what you’d normally see with a sexual assault,’’ Buth said - (Black-on-white)

Dorian Jones, Rederick Melton and Brandon TownsJames Edward HodgesPublished on Jun 9, 2012 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Three men were arraigned for their alleged roles in a brutal break-in and rape at a southwest side Grand Rapids house early Monday. Dorian Jones, Rederick Melton and Brandon Towns, were each officially charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual assault, four counts of armed robbery and one count of home invasion. Towns also faces an additional charge for being a fourth time habitual offender. Jones - who has prior record in Illinois - and Melton are each 20 years old, while Towns is 25. They were all ordered held without bond by Judge Jeanine Laville . James Edward Hodges, 19, of Grand Rapids surrendered himself at the Grand Rapids Police Department late Friday afternoon. He faces similar charges as the other three suspects. Hodges will be arraigned on June 11. A fourth person is a 14-year-old who will be processed through the juvenile system. During a press conference on Thursday, Grand Rapids police called them a "dangerous crew" and were looking to connect them to other crimes, including church break-ins. The five suspects allegedly broke into a home on Veto Street, near the Grand Valley State University Pew Campus, hitting victims over the head with a weapon, tying them up, and then repeatedly raping a woman. They could each face up to life in prison if convicted. Court records show four of the five suspects started participating in crime as juveniles, some as young as 14-years-old.

Bus driver allegedly does nothing while black teens attack white schoolgirls
two Catholic High School girlssuspectsuspectsuspectsuspectsuspectsuspectsuspectFour white 15-year-old Catholic schoolgirl friends laughing and chatting on their usual bus ride home were targeted in an unprovoked, racial attack that left them bloody and bruised, the teens told The Post Wednesday. “Oh, white girl got money!a young black man sitting with a friend commented as the girls travelled on the BX8 bus around 3 p.m. Tuesday after dismissal from St. Catharine’s Academy in the Pelham Gardens section of The Bronx. Before they knew it, the boys called up some female friends, who boarded a few stops away — and the girls said the group punched and kicked them while grabbing clumps of their hair. In an exclusive interview with The Post, two of the girls said the trouble began as soon as they boarded the bus to Throggs Neck — with the male riders leering at the 10th-graders and snapping their pictures. One of the victims, who only wants to be identified by the initials LT because the attackers are still at large, said they were in their school uniforms when the young men tried chatting with them and then threatened to “piss on them.” “Oh, you go to St. Catharine’s? What, do you have money? Go drink your coffee, white girl, and go shopping,” one of them said. The girls nervously tried to laugh it off, and the thugs said they were calling friends at the upcoming Westchester Square stop for re-enforcements. Before they knew it, six to eight young black girls got on the bus and all hell broke loose. “All I remember is seeing the bus doors open and these girls have me by the ankles,” LT said. “One of the guys had me by my hair and punched me in the jaw.” - (Black-on-white)

Murder charges re-filed against (black) Springfield man in connection with 2011 shooting death (of white woman he knew)
Terry D. MorrisonPristina TynerCharges have been re-filed against a Springfield man in connection with the shooting death of a woman at a north Springfield hotel in 2011. Terry D. Morrison, 53, was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's office said in a news release. Morrison was originally charged in September 2011 in connection with the death of Pristina Tyner earlier that month. However, the charges were dismissed that December. In the Wednesday release, prosecutors attributed the move to the fact that a key witness gave "ambiguous testimony" in a preliminary hearing. Prosecutors said Wednesday the re-filing of charges was made possible "by the continued investigative efforts of the Springfield Police Department." A female witness, Christine Casper, said she had been staying in a room with Tyner and that they were expecting someone to visit them in the room, according to the statement. Casper said a black male knocked on the door and entered when Tyner opened the door. Casper said the male pulled out a handgun and pointed it at Tyner. Morrison confirmed he knew Tyner. - (Black-on-white)

Alrick HollingsworthTosia KlincewiczSEATTLE -- Police are intensifying their search for a mass shooting suspect who wounded five people in downtown Settle, and on Friday they publicly named him and released his photo. Alrick Hollingsworth, 18, is believed to have gotten into an argument with another man near the corner of 3rd Ave and Pine Street. Allridge was caught by APD officers walking down the street 17 minutes after responding. He was approximately two blocks from the scene. When questioned by detectives, Morning said Allridge had been heavily using methamphetamines and had been acting paranoid. Allridge was already facing five Class C felonies stemming from an Aug. 22 incident where officials said he rammed multiple police vehicles before leading APD on on a car chase down A street. Allridge was eventually caught when he was boxed in by police cruisers after going the wrong way down C Street. All of southbound C Street at 31st street was shut down during the investigation. The police chase was initiated after officers attempted to arrest Allridge on an outstanding warrant for discharge of a firearm/reckless endangerment. A gun was found in his vehicle at the time. - (Black-on-white)
