James Rathbunblack suspectCEDAR HILL – A Cedar Hill man out for a morning walk Tuesday came face to face with a gunman, who shot him twice in an attempted robbery. James Rathbun was in the 300 block of Trees Drive around 5:40 a.m., when surveillance video shows a stranger casually strolling in his direction. “Hey, good morning,” he remembers telling the man, with a friendly wave. Rathbun was wearing earbuds and couldn’t understand the man’s response. “He said, ‘Give me your wallet.’ But I was thinking he said, ‘Give me some water.’ So I said, ‘I just have coffee.’ So, then he slaps me and I’m like, wait a minute…” Rathbun recalled. Rathbun said he told the man he wasn’t carrying a wallet, only to be slapped again. This time, he struck back with a stainless steel tumbler. “I took my coffee cup and swing at him again. Get into a little altercation and on my way to the ground I hear a shot,” said Rathbun. One bullet hit Rathbun’s shoulder and travelled across his back. The other became lodged in a weighted vest he was wearing, as part of his training for an obstacle race. Rathbun said a detective told him the shot to his back could have been a fatal one. “He said that would have been a kidney or a liver shot. Good thing I wore the vest this morning,” he said. - (Black-on-white)

White female Shooting victim remembered by friends, coworkers as always smiling - after she was shot in back by black at intersection
black devilChelsie Lynn KirschtenJACKSON, Miss. — A woman was shot and killed Thursday night while sitting in a car that was stopped at a red light, police said. Chelsie Lynn Kirschten, 23, was at the intersection of Fortification and State streets along with a female friend just before midnight when police said a man came up to the driver's side of the car and shot Kirschten in the back and ran away. Police said the shooting appears to be random. Nothing was stolen and the shot was fired through the closed window of Kirschten's white Pontiac G6. The gunman didn't say anything and walked away after the shooting, Cmdr. Tyree Jones said. “We’re still in the preliminary stages. We’re not sure if they know one another or if there is any type of affiliation, but based on preliminary indications, this just seems to be possibly an individual just walked up to the vehicle and fired a shot,” Jones said. Kirschten drove down the street after she was shot, police said. Her car came to a stop at Fortification Street near the Interstate 55 exit. She died at the scene, police said. Jones said the passenger in Kirschten's car described the shooter as a black man wearing dark-colored clothing, possibly with a hood. Kirschten had just started taking classes this week, and according to a coworker, had planned to leave her job at Twin Peaks in Jackson in two weeks. A manager at the restaurant said she had taken another job, but said that Kirschten was a joy to work with. - (Black-on-white)

A North Carolina mom-of-three did her own detective work when she noticed $600 missing from her bank account with charges from clothing and beauty store, as well as care insurance and electric companies. Courtney Parks, 27, tracked down a worker at a Kannapolis Steak n' Shake, where she was eating just the night before, and confronted the thief in this six-minute viral video. In the video, the worker apologizes saying, 'I'm sorry about that, I'm willing to pay all your money back'. Video of the confrontation was posted to Facebook and has almost half a million views. Parks, 27, went through the Steak n' Shake drive-thru where she bought dinner for her family. The next morning she woke up with $600.68 missing from her bank account. Purchases were on the card from Guess, Sally's Beauty Supply, Allstate Car Insurance, and an electric company, leaving Parks with $12. There were even two pending PayPal charges. All of the charges were made between 11pm and four am. Parks did some investigative work, first calling the bank and then tracking the purchases that were being shipped to Kannapolis. She noticed that the charges began an hour after the Steak n' Shake visit. The mom-of-three then called the burger restaurant to ask the name of the worker who was at the drive-thru the previous night, saying she wanted to write a costumer survey. Peandra Winn, 28, who goes by Charnelle on Facebook, is the worker who allegedly stole the debit card information. Dead in the home on leafy Perry Street — now a blood-splattered crime scene — were Lynn Vanderhall, 58, her daughter Melissa, 28, and family friend Janel Simpson, 29. Hours after the carnage, cops were seeking to question Bobby Vanderhall, described by neighbors as the eldest victim’s 300-pound mentally ill son. Police did not immediately release the name of a second friend of the family who escaped with apparently defensive wounds to her hand. She was in stable condition at a local hospital, police said. “This is basically a targeted event,” said Det. Lt. Richard LeBrun, commanding officer of the Nassau County Police Public Information Office. “It was not a random event,” he said. The cause of death for all three victims was blunt force trauma, he said. The person of interest was identified as Bobby Vanderhall, who was Lynn’s son and Melissa’s brother, sources said. - (Black-on-white)

Jury finds BLACK man guilty of attempted murder of WHITE former girlfriend
Willie AmosRosita YorkA jury convicted a man Wednesday of trying to kill a former girlfriend during a bullet-fueled car chase and shooting a year ago. Willie Amos, 40, was found guilty in Allen Superior Court of attempted murder, dealing a Schedule I drug and being a serious violent felon in possession of a handgun. Defense attorney Anthony Churchward argued no one could prove Amos intended to kill Rosita York. Amos stopped shooting her even though he had more bullets. The only issue at hand was the intent. Churchward told jurors to put emotion aside and ask what are the objective truths. However, two days before Amos shot York, he told her he was going to kill her. He told her her days were numbered, Deputy Prosecutor Christine Neilson told jurors during closing arguments. On Aug. 24, 2016, Amos found York near her mother's house, chased her in his car, ramming it repeatedly and forcing her to crash into a tree. He then shot her three times as she tried to run and then kicked her in the face and stomped on her head before fleeing. - (Black-on-white)

Lamonte MimsEdward FrenchFantasy DecuirThe July shooting death of a 71-year-old photographer on Twin Peaks was caught on video, prosecutors said in court Tuesday. Lamonte Mims, 19, is charged with murder, robbery and conspiracy in the July 16 shooting death of Edward French at the popular lookout. Fantasy Decuir, 20, is also charged in the fatal attack. A San Francisco judge on Tuesay set bail at $5 million each for Mims and Decuir — despite the prosecutor’s objection. “This is a felony murder case,” argued Assistant District Attorney Michael Swart in pressing for each suspect to be held on $10 million bail. Swart said that Decuir, whose actions were captured on camera, was the shooter.     (Black) Man who killed (White) school crossing guard in crash sentenced to (only) 18 years
Julious JohnsonDouglas CareyLARGO — Norm Runkles remembers swinging by Douglas Carey's crossing guard post and seeing the 70-year-old smile. During his breaks, Carey met his wife at a nearby parking lot to talk about their days. "I watched that go on and I thought that was really special," said Runkles, a crossing guard supervisor at the Clearwater Police Department. "She just doesn't get to do that anymore." Three years ago, a speeding Cadillac that ran a red light on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard struck Carey and ended his life. Runkles watched in a Pinellas courtroom Tuesday as the driver, Julious Johnson, 31, pleaded guilty to the fatal crash and was sentenced to 18 years in prison. Runkles sat next to Carey's wife, Jean, and her daughter, Toni. Assistant State Attorney Doneene Loar read the Carey family's statement.

"This has left us with a hole in our hearts that can never be filled," read the statement, directed to Pinellas Circuit Judge William Burgess III. "Nothing can bring our husband, father, grandfather back, but you can honor a man who spent his life helping others by ensuring Mr. Johnson doesn't hurt anyone else." Runkles stood in court, unfolded a typed letter, and read his statement.

"I get to see Doug only when I pass by his picture," he said, his voice shaking. Carey's family and friends, Runkles added, remember him through photos and a gathering they have every year on the anniversary of his death.

On May 20, 2014, Carey, a retired Clearwater police officer, was getting ready to escort children across the busy intersection at Belcher Road when a Cadillac speeding at 70 mph on Gulf-to-Bay ran a red light. A Honda with the right of way was making a left and collided with Johnson's Cadillac, spinning his car into the direction of Carey, who was standing at the northwest corner of the intersection. He died at the scene.

Johnson ran away from the wreckage, leaving his injured daughters, ages 2 and 4, behind in the car. In his interview with detectives, he admitted to driving the car. - (Black-on-white)

Update: Black alleged accomplice in death of (white) Olivia Mackay says (black) Daniel Tate strangled her after meeting her online
Daniel TateOlivia MackayJamari CookKENOSHA COUNTY -- Charges have been filed against the alleged accomplice in the death of 17-year-old Olivia Mackay. Prosecutors say Mackay met one of the suspects in this case online, and picked him and another man up in her vehicle. It would be the last time she was seen alive. 17-year-old Jamari Cook of Kenosha faces one count of hiding a corpse as party to a crime, and one count of taking and driving a vehicle without consent, as party to a crime. He may not have killed Mackay, but prosecutors say he helped hide her body.

A criminal complaint indicates investigators spoke with Jamari Cook on August 4th. He indicated he was staying with 19-year-old Daniel Tate on July 23rd, and they were staying at his grandmother's home on Sheridan Road. Cook said Tate "meets a lot of girls online," and he had arranged to meet up with a girl later identified as Mackay on July 23rd. On July 23rd, Cook said Mackay picked up Tate and Cook and they drove down by the "Band Shell" near 35th Street and 7th Avenue in Kenosha, before heading down to Racine, eventually returning to the Band Shell.

They then walked down by the lake. Cook said Tate and Mackay were hugging, and he "gave them some space." The complaint indicates Cook later saw Tate choking Mackay -- "lifting her off of the ground." He described it as a "sleeper hold," and said Mackay became motionless. Cook said he then saw Tate holding Mackay under the water for five minutes -- with one knee on her back and his hands by her head and shoulder area. Cook said Tate then found an apron-type piece of clothing on the beach, and wrapped it around her neck -- "pulling back until her head and upper body were bent backwards."

Cook said Mackay was no longer moving and Tate took her body back to her car, where Tate asked Cook for help lifting her into the trunk. Cook said he helped because "there was no going back now." Cook told investigators they lifted the body into the trunk and Cook got into the driver's seat, and Tate told him where to go. Cook said he asked Tate what he wanted to do with the body, and Tate said "he didn't know yet." Cook said he eventually drove to an area in Racine County, where they stopped and Tate wrapped Mackay's body in garbage bags. They then carried her to an area where "there were a lot of weeds" and laid her on her back under the bushes "where they thought no one would find her," the complaint says. - (Black-on-white)

Two blacks - suspect in murder of young White woman in custody (on unrelated charges)
Daniel TateJamari CookOlivia MackayA Kenosha Negro, suspected of strangling a Kenosha teenager found dead July 24 in Mount Pleasant, was in custody Friday on unrelated charges. Kenosha County District Attorney Mike Graveley identified Daniel Tate, 19, in court Friday as the "primary suspect" in the murder of Olivia Mackay. Graveley made that statement during Tate's initial appearance before Court Commissioner David Berman on two unrelated misdemeanors. Berman set Tate's bond at $20,000 — $10,000 for each of the two cases filed against him in Kenosha County Circuit Court. He was charged in 2016 with battery and disorderly conduct, both as domestic abuse, for throwing his mother to the ground and punching his grandfather in the face. He did not appear for his sentencing on that case, resulting Friday in a new charge of bail jumping. Detectives from the Kenosha and Mount Pleasant police departments arrested Tate and Jamari Cook, 17, also of Kenosha, late Thursday night in connection with the death of Mackay, whose body was found in Mount Pleasant on July 24. Cook told police he was there when Tate strangled Mackay on a Kenosha beach. Cook told police he helped Tate place Mackay's body in her car, which Tate then proceeded "to drive around as if it was his own." - (Black-on-white)

The third (black) suspect wanted in the robberies, kidnappings targeted at white students has been arrested - "racially motivated"
Raquan GreensuspectsuspectJordan DinsmoreCOLUMBIA, SC - Richland County Sheriff's Department says three teens have been arrested in a crime spree that was escalating from a delivery robbery to armed robberies to a near sexual assault. And the victims were targeted because of their race, according to Sheriff Leon Lott. "This was a crime spree. They would not have stopped," Lott said. "They made a statement that they did not like white people and they were only going to rob white people." Lott says the two suspects, 17-year-old Raquan Green and a 15-year-old whose name has not been released, were arrested Wednesday. The third suspect, a 15-year-old boy, was taken into custody at his home on Walcott Street. Lott says the trio used racism to pick their victims. The third suspect resisted arrest and injured an RSCD investigator in the process. The investigator had to be hospitalized with a leg injury and is expected to be OK. The suspect is now being charged with assault on a police officer while resisting arrest. Sheriff Lott says that should the investigator require surgery or an extensive hospital stay, charges may be upgraded. "Between July 3 and July 26 there have been seven separate incidents of armed robberies, some to include carjacking and kidnapping along the Bluff /Shop Road Corridor," Lott said. "Investigators discovered that the suspects began targeting delivery drivers by committing armed robberies. The crimes then escalated to carjacking and kidnapping victims." The crime spree started on July 3 when a food delivery driver was robbed. Two more incidents of food delivery robberies happened on July 15 and July 17. On July 19, a food delivery driver was robbed and forced to drive to an ATM and withdraw money. All the incidents happened late at night where delivery drivers were targeted and students were moving into student housing or leaving apartments in the area. The suspects stole cash, cell phones, and various electronics.
One of the victims, who was African American, was released from the suspects when they found out she was not white.
Jordan, the only victim who spoke at the press conference, said she was returning home to her apartment at The Village Apartments on Southern Drive from work on July 26 around 12:15 a.m. when a group of three black males pushed her to the ground and placed a gun to her head. The report says the men threatened to kill her unless she drove them to a nearby ATM. She complied, the report said, and withdrew $300 from her account. It was at that point, according to the incident report, one of the men told the victim she was going to be used for sex at his "auntie's" house, but the victim found a way to escape by jumping out of her moving vehicle on Blair Road. - (Black-on-white)
