Kevin StanfordBarbel PooreKevin Stanford, foreground, and co-defendant David BuchananKevin Stanford, who was sentenced to death in 1982 for one of Louisville’s most notorious murders — then had his sentenced commuted to life without parole by Gov. Paul Patton because he was only 17 at the time of the crime — is now asking to be freed from prison. Stanford, now 53, filed a petition this week in federal court in Louisville demanding a new sentencing hearing or the nullification of his sentence. Mona Mills, the sister of Stanford’s victim, Barbel Poore, said in an interview Friday that she doesn’t buy Stanford’s rehabilitation. He is a sexual deviant and a killer,” she said. “He needs to never come out, ever, and pray tell he doesn’t.” On Jan. 7, 1981, Stanford and David Buchanan, then 16, for 45 minutes took turns sodomizing and raping Poore, 20, a single mother, who was working alone in the Cheker Oil Co. station. Stanford drove Poore a few blocks away in her mother's 1973 Chevrolet Impala, where he let her smoke a final cigarette, then fired two shots from a .38-caliber pistol into her head and face, leaving her body in the back seat with her pants pulled down around her ankles, her buttocks exposed. Then he returned to the station, stealing 300 cartons of cigarettes, lighters and $143 in cash. In 1992, he was placed in disciplinary segregation for six months for sexually sodomizing another inmate. - (Black-on-white)

Jennifer Medinaferal blacksuspectsuspectsuspectsuspectsuspectsuspectsuspectsuspectsuspectsuspectNEW YORK — A young woman was targeted by nearly two dozen attackers on a Brooklyn street. The victim said the brutal assault seemed to have no motive beyond cruelty. “I was getting dragged to the ground, punched left and right,” Jennifer Medina said speaking exclusively. Medina’s walk home from the train station after school last week turned into a violent assault. Her attackers got away with her cell phone battery, a pair of headphones, and her sense of security. “I’m more aware now, I and I look back, I always look back now,” she said. Medina was left with cuts and bruises and a scraped up back. “I thought my neck was broken because of all the pain because I got kicked in the head,” she said. Police said the pack of at least 20 teenagers attacked Medina on Fourth Avenue near St. Mark’s Place in Boerum Hill. Surveillance video captured the faces of a few of the teenage boys and girls. The group surrounded Median and began to taunt her. “They was like ‘oh, what are you going to do about it? What are you going to do about it,” she recalled. After the assault the attackers smashed her phone on the ground and ran away. “I think they just decided to do that because they didn’t have anything better to do with their lives,” she said. - (Black-on-white)

Eric HardenTiffany GreerINDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Indianapolis Metropolitan police say a deadly shooting on the near southwest side appears to be a case of murder-suicide. Two people were found shot to death at a mobile home park in the 3000 block of West Morris Street Wednesday night. Several neighbors had called 911 to report gunshots in the area. Police arrived around 8 p.m. to find a mobile home with its door partially open. Officers saw a woman and man inside the mobile home; both were suffering from gunshot wounds. Investigators believe Eric Harden shot and killed his girlfriend Tiffany Greer before turning the gun on himself.
“I deep down inside feel like she was trying to leave him and he was jealous...,” said Tiffany’s brother Johney Greer. Tiffany’s two year old daughter was inside the home when the killings took place but thankfully was not hurt. The suspect in this case had a history of violence long before the deadly shooting. According to court records, in 2013 prosecutors charged Harden with domestic violence. In 2015 he was charged again with resisting law enforcement and last year was sentenced to anger control counseling. The IMPD also says they were called to the couple’s home in 2015 after a violent fight between the victim and suspect during which some property was damaged. “Unfortunate circumstances like this are also an opportunity to educate,” said Catherine O’Connor with the Julian Center. - (Black-on-white)

Five (Blacks) Arrested For Ambushing Police At Traffic Stop - January 3, 2017
5 black ambushersFive people allegedly involved in a traffic stop incident in Oklahoma have been arrested for attempting to kill police. According to court documents, Tavone Payne was driving alone at about 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 8, and was pulled over by police. When the pair of officers walked over to Payne's car, he was reportedly on his phone. The officers say they ordered Payne to get off his phone, but he ignored their warnings. An officer says he overheard Payne asking someone else to come to the traffic stop. Two more officers were called in for backup and Payne was put in the back of their patrol car for a license violation, according to police. Suddenly, four men allegedly began shooting at the officers from behind just as the cops were searching Payne's car. The officers ducked for cover behind their patrol vehicles as the bullets struck the sides of their cars, reports KWTV. One officer says he later found a stray bullet trapped inside his coat pocket. Now, investigators believe the suspects ambushed the police and attempted to kill them in a premeditated attack. Police have arrested all five suspects accused in the involvement of the shooting: Tavone Payne, Donye Smiley, Trent Colbert, Marcus Robertson and Samuel Carolina. All five suspects have lengthy criminal records and are currently in custody.

Vandetta RedwoodThe woman on trial for providing the gun used to kill 14-year-old Endia Martin broke down screaming in federal court Wednesday during closing arguments by the prosecution. “They f—ing lied on me,” Vandetta Redwood shouted while Andrianna Kastanek, a federal prosecutor, spoke to the jury, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting. “I didn’t kill no baby,” Redwood said, adding: “I have my own child.” And later, to add to the bizarre scene in the courtroom of U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve, Redwood’s attorney was accused of taking photos in the courtroom during the prosecutor’s closing argument. Redwood had been shaking her head early in Kastanek’s argument as the prosecutor told jurors Redwood had given a loaded gun to a 14-year-old girl. Then, during her outburst, Redwood also attacked one of the key pieces of evidence against her: a video of a fight that preceded the shooting. “They made that video up,” Redwood said. Redwood, 35, has been charged with handing a .38-caliber revolver to her 14-year-old cousin in the midst of a chaotic street fight, along with a simple instruction: “Shoot that bitch,” referring to Endia.
