A Hayward man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of kidnapping and attempting to rape a woman in Union City, police said. Gomez allegedly forced the victim into his pickup truck as she was walking to a grocery store on Harder Road near Mission Boulevard about noon, according to Union City Police Sgt. Bruce Harter. The woman, who is also a Hayward resident, did not know Gomez, police said. Harter said witnesses saw Gomez abandon his truck nearby and flag a ride with passing van, which turned out to be driven by someone he knew.
