September 11th, 1998 Medal of Honor or Red Badge of Treason?
Here's the AP-breaking-news-clip
that set me off a few days ago...
CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP)-Nelson Mandela to meet with President Clinton, address the United Nations and receive a Congressional Medal of Honor during a visit to the United States beginning next week. The South African president also will visit Canada during the trip, part of a series of farewells to world leaders ahead of his retirement from politics next year, the South African Press Association said. Mandela is scheduled to leave for the United States next Tuesday and to visit Canada from Sept. 23-26, the news agency said.
A top government official, speaking on condition of anonymity,
said Mandela would receive the Medal of Honor, meet with Clinton
and receive an honorary degree from Harvard University.
...more news on Mandela's "Congressional Medal of Honor"....this is NOT
"The Congressional Medal of Honor" which can only go to a member of the US Army..
but a special "congressional gold medal"
authorized by a special Act of Congress, H.R. 3156
that may cost up to $30,000.00

I found this article after using about 5 search-engines - trying to confirm the AP story...
well, it's still pretty outragous, one way or ther other...

 from  http://www.patriottrading.com/mandela_medal.html

Just who are the good guys?

It is time for Americans to take closer look. What has happened in South
Africa's recent history portends what could possibly happen right here in the
USA. The passing of HR3156 will give you a glimpse as to what "left-thinking"
is penetrating Congress. According to some, Mandela "saved" South Africa.

Hardly! South Africa went from being an economic powerhouse to a banana
republic in short order. The currency value has plunged 47%, unemployment is
at record...violent crime is unmatched anywhere in the world, not to mention
drugs, and the spread of Aids, and crimes against whites which are at a all
time high. One brutal atrocity was against a German Nun in Durban who was
shot in the head by a 17 year old because he wanted her car. That was never
        reported by the American Press.

The recently announced $30,000. Gold Medal to be awarded to Nelson
Mandela, and presented by President Clinton at the White House, was
approved by Congress and promoted by Progressive Caucus Members of who
pushed for and passed this outrageous piece of legislation.

What Americans typically believe about Nelson Mandela is tainted with
political correctness. Major media has sold Americans a bill of goods about
Nelson Mendela for years....he was not a political prisoner.....he was jailed for
bombing civilian targets in South Africa....the total death toll is in the
thousands......and yes, many were children. South Africa's allies today do not
include the US, but rather they are Cuba, Russia, Red China, North Korea,
        Libya, Iran and the IRA.

Do you really know the truth about anything you learned on "the nightly news
broadcasts" regarding South Africa? Here's an easy one or two: How many
tribes live in South Africa? What does apartheid mean? (. . .you do know that
is a Dutch word.) Who are the indigenous people to the area? To what tribe
does Mandela belong?Who was Chaka? What was the Boer war about?Did
        the NWO begin here?

Until you know the history of a country you cannot know the reasons for its
actions. I know American history real well....what the Europeans did in Africa
was no different than here....you had Indians, we had Africans.

Just so you know, I was born in Rhodesia, lived in South Africa...and yes, I
fought in the bush war. I speak from first hand knowledge of the situation, and
I regret the direction this great country of America is traveling.

The point is if we don't know who the bad guys are, how are we supposed to
        recognize the good guys...

H.R.3156
One Hundred Fifth Congress of the United States of America

                        AT THE SECOND SESSION

Begun and held at the City of Washington on Tuesday,
the twenty-seventh day of January, one thousand nine hundred and ninety-eight
An Act
To present a congressional gold medal to Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America
     in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. FINDINGS.

     The Congress finds the following:

         (1) Nelson Mandela has dedicated his entire life to the abolition of apartheid and the
creation of a true democracy in the Republic of South Africa and has sacrificed his own
personal freedom for the good of everyone.

         (2) For nearly 30 years as a political prisoner, Nelson Mandela never compromised his
political principles, was a source of strength and education for other political prisoners,
and refused offers of freedom in exchange for a renunciation of his personal and political
         beliefs.

         (3) After his release from prison, Nelson Mandela continued to pursue his goal of a free
South Africa, and was elected and subsequently inaugurated as State President of the
Republic of South Africa on May 10, 1994, at the age of 75 years.

         (4) Nelson Mandela's dedication to freedom did not cease once the apartheid laws were
lifted, as he then focused his efforts toward reconciliation by creating the Truth and
Reconciliation Commission, chaired by the Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

         (5) Nelson Mandela is the recipient of many awards and accolades, including the Nobel
Peace Prize (which he accepted with then-State President F.W. de Klerk in 1993), and
more than 50 honorary degrees from universities around the world.

         (6) Millions of individuals of all races and backgrounds in the United States and around
the world followed Nelson Mandela's example and fought for the abolition of apartheid in
the Republic of South Africa and in this regard the Congress recognizes Amy Elizabeth
Biehl, an American student who lost her life in the struggle to free South Africa from
racial oppression, and the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation displayed by her parents,
         Peter and Linda Biehl.

         (7) Nelson Mandela is a prime example of how to work to heal the wounds of racism.

outrageous!
I guess you can't believe everything
that comes over the Internet or the news wires.....
but it's shame to waste a good rant
so here was my original reaction on reading that
Clinton was going to give Mandela
a "Congressional Medal of Honor"...

"How to be a good Communist." In that telling piece, Mandela asserted: "In our own country, the
struggles of the oppressed people are guided by the South African Communist Party
and inspired by its policies.... Under a Communist Party Government,
South Africa will be a land of milk and honey." Jan. 24, 1994

if Nelson Mandela gets a US Congressional Medal of Honor
it will be pissing on the graves
of all those Americans that died in Korea and Vietnam
supposedly fighting Communism
and degrade all other veterans that have ever received the Medal

Excerpts Memorial Day Address Nashville National Cemetery
by Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) May 27, 1996

"Not for fame or reward, not for place or rank, not lured by ambition or goaded by necessity,
but in simple obedience to duty as they understood it,
these men suffered all, sacrificed all,
dared all--and died."

These simple truths are inscribed at Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington, DC.
They describe so well our debt to more than a million Americans who have died while serving our nation in war. In the last half century alone more than 400,000 American men and women died in the Second World War; 47,000 in Vietnam; and 33,000 in Korea. Others were killed in Operation Desert Storm and Somalia. ...

The Medal of Honor

The Medal of Honor is the highest medal awarded by the United States. It has only been awarded
3,428 times in the nation's history. Below is an excerpt of the Army regulation that describes the
eligibility criteria for award of the Medal of Honor...

the HIGHEST MEDAL AWARDED BY THE UNITED STATES?

We need each other, Clinton declares
President Bill Clinton has called for a new equal partnership
between the United States and South Africa.
In a historic speech to a joint session of Parliament in Cape Town, Mr Clinton said he was
honoured to be the first US president to visit South Africa
and stressed the two countries'  bond in trying to forge multiracial societies.

Bill Clinton has degraded the White House
by running it as a 'Motel 6' for his contributors.
Bill Clinton has dishonored the dead in Arlington Cemetery
by selling grave sites to campaign donors that lied about service.
Bill Clinton has literally fouled the White House with his promiscuity.
Bill Clinton has shamed and dishonored the Nation
by tearfully apologizing to every third-rate African dictator
for slavery and the conditions of modern Africa
as if he and the US Marines had personally
kidnapped, whipped, chained and sold them
into modern american welfare plantations.
Bill Clinton has done his best to destroy
the morale and integrity of the armed services.
Is there anything else he can come up with
to further degrade himself,  the Office, or the Nation
besides making a mockery of the Medal of Honor?

Port Louis - President Nelson Mandela on Friday criticised hypocritical western nations which preached democracy, but whose citizens were denied basic services and went hungry... Scores of flag-waving school children waited in a light drizzle to greet Mandela,
but declined to join him in singing "twinkle, twinkle little star".

White House staff, `backs against wall,' defend chief executive
...But the day brought new indications that the President is losing some of the
leverage of his office with the Congress. In meetings with the White House staff,
some Democratic and Republican members of Congress balked at the President's requests on scheduling a ceremony for South African President Nelson Mandela, who is to receive a congressional medal later this month.
A White House staff official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that the
Senate and House members had paid no attention to the administration's request
for a specific time for the ceremony.
``We feel impotent,'' the White House official said. ``We feel afraid to speak up because we fear p------ off members of Congress. The attitude there is that he [the President] is a fraud. That's what it has come down to.''

FARM KILLINGS HIGHLIGHT GOVT FAILURE TO PROTECT CITIZENS: NP JOHANNESBURG September 9 1998 Sapa

Farm killings highlighted the government's failure to protect its citizens and its inability to accept the responsibilities of power, National Party leader Marthinus van Schalkwyk told the Free State farming community on Tuesday.

"South African governance has deteriorated so drastically under the ANC's (African National Congress) leadership that the primary function of government, the protection of the safety and security of its citizens, has ground to a precipitous halt," he said.

Addressing farmers in Clocolan and Koppies, he said the government must admit direct responsibility for the deaths caused by its "criminal apathy".

"Their constant refusal to act, even to immediately condemn the atrocious violence that has been visited on our farmers, their families, and labourers, is indicative of the inability and unwillingness of the ANC to accept the responsibilities of power."

He criticised the government for repeated talkshops that failed to deliver results.

Van Schalkwyk accused President Nelson Mandela of giving higher priority to his international agenda, such as the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, than his citizens' needs.

"The message from the Office of the President is clear: his international commitments mean more to him than the desparate cries of his own people."

On the proposed summit on farm killings, he said the NP would lobby for a rebate for all security costs incurred by farmers for their self-protection.

"Citizens should not be forced to pay with either their money or their lives for the ANC government's ineptitude," he said.

The NP would also continue to call for a return to the farm commando system, he said.

"The summit in October cannot be allowed to be just another talkshop. The government has the power to stop these horrific deeds and it must be made to act."
