Federal jury finds Jeri Wright guilty in money-laundering trial
Jeri L. WrightBarack Obama and Jeremiah WrightSPRINGFIELD — A federal jury took less than two hours Friday to find the daughter of President Barack Obama’s former pastor Jeremiah Wright guilty on all counts in her weeklong federal money-laundering trial that was rooted in a $1.25 million state grant-fraud scheme. Jeri Wright, 48, of Hazel Crest, maintained her innocence as she left a Springfield courtroom, telling reporters, “I didn’t do anything.” Federal prosecutors charged her in an 11-count indictment for money-laundering, lying to federal investigators and lying to a grand jury after being involved in a fraud scheme orchestrated by former Country Club Hills Police Chief Regina Evans. Wright sat frozen in her chair as the jury’s clean-sweep against her was read in open court. With backing from state Sen. Donne Trotter, D-Chicago, and former Rep. Marlow Colvin, D-Chicago, Evans and her husband, Ronald, secured a state job-training grant designed to help minorities learn the construction trade. But state officials and federal prosecutors contend about $900,000 of that wound up going directly into the Evanses’ pockets, with virtually none of the money going toward its intended use.
  • The fraud was led by Regina and Ronald W. Evans, Jr., who were, respectively, the former police chief and former inspector general of Country Club Hills.

New sentencing hearing for cowardly black York thug who murdered White law student
Jordan WallickKenneth Daniel Santiago-CuretJames Wallmuth IIIConvicted teen killer Jordan Wallick has won a new sentencing hearing, meaning he could possibly avoid spending the rest of his life in prison. On Wednesday, the state Superior Court agreed with defense attorney Dawn Cutaia's argument that an automatic life sentence without parole for Wallick was unconstitutional because he was 15 at the time he murdered law student James Wallmuth III. Cutaia also argued Wallick deserved a new trial on several legal grounds, but the Superior Court disagreed. "I am thrilled that my client is going to get a new sentencing hearing," she told The York Dispatch. "We will be putting on extensive testimony to illustrate why Jordan should not be sentenced to life." The murder: Wallmuth was sitting on a park bench near the corner of Grant Street and West Clarke Avenue in York City on July 28, 2010, talking to his girlfriend on his cellphone, York City Police said. He was approached by Wallick, who tried to rob him. But when Wallmuth resisted the robbery, Wallick fatally shot him in the back, according to police. Co-defendant Kenneth Santiago-Curet, 22, testified at Wallick's trial, admitting he gave the teen the loaded gun and waited nearby for Wallick to commit the stickup. He eventually pleaded guilty to robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery and was sentenced to 15 to 30 years in prison. - (Black-on-white)

Byrd, 39, has been named a person of interest in the homicide investigation of Cheryl Gilberg. A prenoscription amphetamine pill bottle prescribed to Gilberg was found alongside prenoscriptions belonging to Byrd during the home search. Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney said the medical examiner ruled that Gilberg died from "homicidal firearm violence to the head." Mahoney said there was a history of domestic violence at the home, and that Gilberg filed for a restraining order last week. Court records show she filed it against a former or current live-in boyfriend, and it was scheduled to go to court Wednesday. Mahoney wouldn't say if that man is being questioned. Byrd was not the man Gilberg filed a temporary restraining order against, and was not involved in an alleged December domestic violence incident.

Supreme Court looks at case of Freddie Lee Hall, Florida death row inmate with low IQ
Freddie Lee HallKarol Hurst, who was 21 years old and seven months pregnant Lonnie CoburnA Floridian with an IQ as high as 75 may be diagnosed as mentally disabled and be eligible for help getting a job. But on death row, the state says having an IQ higher than 70 categorically means an inmate is not mentally disabled and may be executed. The Supreme Court barred states from executing mentally disabled inmates in 2002, but until now has left the determination of who is mentally disabled to the states. In arguments Monday, 68-year-old Florida inmate Freddie Lee Hall is challenging the state's use of a rigid IQ cutoff to determine mental disability. He was sentenced to death for murdering Karol Hurst, a 21-year-old pregnant woman who was abducted leaving a Florida grocery store in 1978. Hall also has been convicted of killing a sheriff's deputy and has been imprisoned for the past 35 years. He earlier served a prison term for assault with intent to commit rape and was out on parole when he killed Hurst. Hall's guilt is not at issue. - (Black-on-white)

Landrick Donyell Edwards Jr. is facing one count of first-degree murder with a firearm and one count of attempted robbery with a firearm. They discovered a firearm and this week ballistic tests conducted on the weapon matched up with the bullet that killed the 56-year-old Dooley. Investigators arrested the other suspect, Devante Bell, two days after Dooley was shot to death in a robbery for less than $300. Bell, 20, was identified by TPD detectives through evidence left at the crime scene. - (Black-on-white)

White 91-year-old St. Petersburg carjacking victim describes attack by two cowardly black thugs
Travonte Brishard BanksSavon Jamar HunterBeverly LandreySt. Petersburg Police arrested two men who are suspected in a carjacking and chase Thursday that caused four accidents and injured a 91-year-old woman. Investigators identified the suspects as 19-year-old Travonte Brishard Banks and 20-year-old Savon Jamar Hunter. The pursuit began around 5:15 p.m. after the carjacking of 91-year-old Beverly Landrey near 23rd Avenue North and 7th Street North. Police say Landrey's Toyota Venza was rear-ended by a stolen Dodge Ram driven by Banks. Landry got out of the car to survey the damage and says one of the men said he was texting and apologized for hitting her. "It was at that very moment that I felt another body go around me, I wasn't aware of the second person. And the body of the person went around me and got into the drivers seat,” said Landrey. "And the door was still open, so I got a hold of the handle to pull it to keep it, so he wouldn't drive off and then I reached in and tried to pull him out and he had to have stood to do what he did." The next thing Landrey knew, she was laying in the middle of the roadway, crying for help. - (Black-on-white)

Act Now To Save Europa!
Europe in flames
"What Is Happening To Europa Today? Today, all our lands and cultures are under attack by elitist politicians, who ignore our wishes against their flood of impoverished immigrants and participation in US military endeavors. Our communities, our economies and our lives are in flames! This continent-wide pattern of destruction is now obvious, and an alarm has been raised among the European peoples, leading us to form the Wiking Partie." - (EU) - (UK)
