(White) Wife: Former CNN reporter shoots, kills armed (black) robber at Westside motel
Tomorio WaltonChuck de Caro and wife Lynne RussellA former CNN investigative reporter shot and killed an armed robber in a motel on Albuquerque's Westside late Tuesday, according to his wife. Police responded to the Motel 6 at Iliff Road NW off Coors around 11:30 p.m. APD said they found a man dead in the parking lot with at least one gunshot wound. Lynne Russell, also a former CNN anchor, told KOB she and her husband, Chuck de Caro, decided to stop at the motel for the night because they were tired after a long day of traveling and had their dog with them. When she went out to the car to get something and returned to the room, she said an armed man was at the door with a handgun. "He pushed me into the room and that's when my husband came out of the shower and saw what was happening," she said. "We tried to calm him, confuse him and do everything we could do to just come out of it in one piece." When it became clear to Russell that the man may shoot them, she told him they would look in her purse for something. Russell said she and her husband have concealed carry licenses, and she had a gun inside her purse. "He wound up taking my husband's briefcase, and instead of just taking it and leaving, he took it and went over and started firing at my husband. And Chuck fired back and it was a shootout." Russell said the man was killed during the exchange. De Caro was struck by three rounds, but he was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive. "I am very, very proud of my husband. He is my hero," Russell said. "He saved my life." - (Black-on-white)

Ghost hunters discover body of missing (White) woman at haunted hospital - two blacks in custody
Sharen Ulrich WilsonRaphael McCloud (left) and Akeem McCloud VICKSBURG, Miss. - A team of ghost hunters found the body of a missing woman on Sunday as they explored the old Kuhn Memorial State Hospital in Vicksburg, a site known to be one of Mississippi's most haunted. Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong said Sharon Wilson, 69, appeared to have trauma to her head. Witnesses said her body was found outside Kuhn Hospital, but blood trails indicated she had been inside. Two men, Akeem McCloud, 20, and Rafael McCloud, 33, have been taken into custody, but Armstrong said they have not been charged yet. (They were driving a car stolen from the victim.) It appears at one point Wilson was inside the ('ghost') hospital and was taken outside. "You could tell where they had dragged someone down from the second floor in the middle of the building, to a grassy area on the left side of the hospital," he said. "On the steps, that's where most of the blood was, and it looked like they dragged her all the way to the grassy area." Police said the McClouds told authorities they had put Wilson out on the side of the road after robbing her home and kidnapping her on Saturday. - (Black-on-white)

Troy StevensonKelly HunnewellKelly HunnewellTrenton BarnesLorenzo YoungCOLUMBIA, SC - Troy Stevenson remains in jail on Tuesday despite a mistrial declared in his murder case. Stevenson was the third man accused in the shooting of a Columbia mother of four in 2013. Jurors listened to testimony for five days before beginning deliberations on Monday afternoon. However, the deliberations were stopped after prosecutors reported questionable behavior by one of the members of the jury. Judge Robert Hood said that 11 jurors heard an alternate juror say “I've made up my mind” about the case. Hood also noted that the juror told other jurors "all black people should stick together" and the case was "ridiculous." According to prosecutors, an alternate juror also embraced or kissed a member of Troy Stevenson's family. The interaction was seen by an investigator in a hall outside the courtroom after alternate jurors were released. Stevenson was accused of being a lookout for Trenton Barnes and Lorenzo Young who were both convicted last December in the murder of Kelly Hunnewell. - (Black-on-white)

Darnell Razz convicted for second time in 2010 Circle K killings
Darnell RazzRobert Alvarez Michael Dean BennettRalson MullerWEST PALM BEACH — The smile that covered Darnell Razz’s face as deputies led him out of the courtroom seemed an unusual reaction Friday for the 23-year-old man a jury had just convicted of the 2010 murders of two store clerks at a Greenacres Circle K. This isn’t new for Razz, though. He’s been here before. “I’m straight, man,” Razz reassured a deputy who insisted on handcuffing him before taking him out of a Palm Beach County courtroom and back to jail. Friday marked the second time in three years a jury has convicted Razz in the murders of Ralson Muller and Michael Dean Bennett. Circuit Judge Jack Cox will likely sentence him to life in prison at his Oct. 22 sentencing hearing. That’s the same sentence Circuit Judge Stephen Rapp gave both Razz and his co-defendant, Robert Alvarez, immediately after their first trial in 2012.
