"As the call progressed," the warrant affidavit says, "an irate male subject's voice became audible and he began to scream profanities at her, accusing her of providing his address to another subject; (Nichols) moaned and sounded as if she were being attacked." Dominican Republic nationals Wilton Lara-Calmona and Jose M. Lara-Mejia were arrested on drug charges by police investigating the shooting death of Mirta Rivera, 41. The Lawrence nurse was killed in her sleep by a gunshot fired through the ceiling from an upstairs apartment, where both men lived. But Immigration and Customs Enforcement records reviewed by the Herald show the men shouldn’t have been in the country in the first place. Lara-Calmona, 38, was deported in April 2012 and arrested for re-entering the country last November, the records show. Lara-Mejia, 35, was nabbed crossing the border in August 2013 and ordered deported in April 2014, but had remained in the country illegally. (Pictured) Jose Lara-Mejia, 35, left, Wilton Lara-Calmona, 38, and Christopher Paganmoux, 23 who all live on the second floor above Rivera on Exchange Street, were charged with trafficking heroin and cocaine after police said they found drugs as well as a “clear and obvious” rifle bullet hole in Lara-Mejia’s second-floor bedroom. - (Drudge)

Jeremy Wayne Miller is charged with murder in the death of 55-year-old security guard Daniel Arp. Arp was gunned down while working security at the St. Joseph Condominiums in the 8200 block of Park Place Boulevard. Surveillance video showed the victim talking with a man before he was shot. That video helped lead to Miller. When officers arrested Miller Thursday night, they say he tried to grab one cop's gun and escape, but they stopped him. Miller was out on bond for a 2014 murder and was wearing a court-mandated ankle monitor when Arp was shot. Investigators say he shot and killed Tremayne Richardson last July. Miller was released in that case after posting bond. - (Black-on-white)

  • Route of Migrants into Europe Shifts Toward Balkans
The surge of migrants into Europe from war-ravaged and impoverished parts of the Middle East, Afghanistan and Africa has shifted in recent months. Much of Europe is reeling from the flow of people seeking safety, jobs and a better life — but who have strained resources, heightened ethnic and religious tensions, and rewired politics in individual nations and throughout the Continent. The new pathway is also causing a sharp rise in anti-immigrant sentiment in the Balkans and neighboring central Europes, bolstering nationalist parties and inspiring protests in many countries.

  • The protests here in Bratislava (Capital of Slovakia), organized by an extremist outfit called Stop the Islamization of Europe, ended with more than 100 arrests on Saturday. They played out just two days after the anti-immigration Danish People’s Party, once dismissed as an assembly of marginal cranks, won more than 20 percent of the vote in parliamentary elections in Denmark.

The girls explain that they gave the man a free cup of lemonade after they say he told them he had lost his money. Then, Jacobs says: “He just ran back and kind of pushed the table towards us and took the money and just kept running.” “We got up and started screaming, ‘Come back!’ And then this lady came by and she called the police,” Anderson said. That’s when a brother of one of the girls, Keiran Anderson, and his buddy swooped into action. “We saw the dude with my sister’s box and just ran after him,” he said. Authorities raced to the scene and arrested the suspect identified by police as Santini Tate of Riverside on suspicion of strong-arm robbery.
