Accident or attack? (Black) Girl, 12, injured by rope around her neck on school trip
"rope burn"WACO — Authorities want to know how a 12-year-old girl ended up with a severe rope burn around her neck during an overnight campout with her sixth-grade classmates. But the child and her mother believe they already know. The girl is black and attends a mostly white private school near a flourishing part of downtown. They believe she was the victim of a racially motivated attack, the culmination of months of bullying by her classmates. The girl and her mother said they believe some of the girl’s white classmates intentionally placed a rope around her neck as the students played during the camping trip. Live Oak Classical School said in a statement that the girl’s injuries were “caused accidentally” while the students — eight girls and 14 boys — were playing with a rope swing attached to a tree. The girl was one of two black students on the trip. The school contends the girl’s lawyer is using race to take advantage of an accident for financial gain.

Homeless woman thrown from bridge, raped for 3 days, per Colorado Springs police
Isaiah Jarvis PerrinA homeless woman was thrown from a ledge and repeatedly raped for days at the spot where she landed beneath the Cimarron Street bridge - unable to escape because her legs were paralyzed, Colorado Springs police say. The torture ended when a passerby found her May 2 lying beneath the bridge. In mid-April, she met a man - later identified by police as Isaiah Jarvis Perrin, 21 - and stayed with him in a loft composed of wooden boards wedged between two girders beneath the Cimarron Street bridge. The loft could be reached by walking up a steep cement embankment to the bridge's underbelly. She told detectives she occasionally stayed there with him. But around dusk on April 30, she said she arrived to find him smoking some kind of drug, possibly heroin. When she tried gathering her clothes, Perrin retaliated - first threatening to toss her from the loft. Only when he appeared to relent - and she loosened her grip on the wood beams - did he throw her off. She slammed against the concrete, instantly paralyzed. The man immediately climbed down and beat her. Then she endured days of repeated rapes. At least once, the man moved her head and forced her to perform oral sex.

(Black) Man convicted of kidnap-rape-murder of (White female) Youngstown State U student loses appeal
Bennie AdamsGina TenneyCOLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a man originally sentenced to death for murdering a Youngstown State University student. Although the death sentence in the case was dismissed earlier, the court on Thursday voted 6-to-1 to affirm the conviction of 58-year-old Bennie Adams who was found guilty of murdering Gina Tenney in 2008. The 19-year-old victim had been robbed, raped and her body tossed in the river in 1985. Adams argued that he had ineffective legal counsel that failed to challenge items such as evidence being presented by a substitute witness instead of the coroner who originally performed the autopsy on Tenney. He also argued that the evidence against him was insufficient to convict him of aggravated murder in the course of committing a rape or kidnapping. The Court disagreed, ruling that there is sufficient evidence to prove otherwise. Although the Supreme Court's most recent ruling upholds Adams' conviction, a ruling from the high court last year has already vacated the death sentence in the case. Because the case was sent back to the lower court, the U.S. Constitution's double jeopardy clause prohibits someone from being tried or punished twice for the same crime. When Adams is re sentenced in Mahoning County on June 6, the maximum penalty he faces is life in prison. - (Black-on-white)

(Black) Arrested in December mystery killing (of White man)
Deleon Wiley HudsonTorrance Deon RouseNow that a Dublin area man is in jail for killing a Macon man in December, the victim’s family still wants to know why. Torrance Deon Rouse, a 20-year-old from Montrose, was arrested at about 10:30 a.m. Friday by the U.S. Marshals of the Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force and charged in last year’s slaying of 43-year-old Deleon Wiley Hudson. “Oh my God, this is so wonderful,” Hudson’s widow Jeanie exclaimed when she learned of Rouse’s arrest. Since Dec. 22, Hudson’s wife and in-laws have been puzzled as to why anyone would shoot the artistic loner who was due at work that day at the Family Dollar. Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said they believe the killing was a failed robbery attempt on a desolate dirt road plagued by illegal dumping. The arrest comes six months after Hudson’s body was discovered with a gunshot wound to his head inside his in-laws’ Xterra, which was parked on Lakeshore Drive. Someone had tried to set the SUV on fire, but the rag sticking out of the gas tank had burned out. - (Black-on-white)

Special prosecutor Miguel Najera said in his opening argument that the evidence “does not correspond at all” to Thomas’ story, that Jackson was unarmed and “there was no justification” for the killing. - (Black-on-white)
