Deangelo DavisColin RoseDETROIT Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy is holding a press conference Wednesday morning with an update to the case of Collin Rose, the 29-year-old shot in the head by a man he had stopped near campus. DeAngelo Davis, 31, faces several charges, including first degree murder in connection with the death just before Thanksgiving. Rose’s wake and funeral were attended by hundreds of metro Detroiters, including a cadre of K-9 officers. The senseless death of a man described as respected and admired drew national attention; He’s the only Wayne State cop killed in the line of duty. Davis was arrested shortly after the incident. In a statement, Worthy said Davis was riding a bicycle when Rose stopped him. The officer was shot shortly after requesting help from other officers. (Hispanic) Mestizo Who Beat Stray Dog With Shovel Sentenced To 5 Years In Prison
Efrem Rodriguez MartinezRustyRIVERSIDE — A man who beat a neighborhood dog to death with a shovel has been sentenced to five years in prison. Efrem Rodriguez Martinez, 55, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to beating the dog and admitting to using a shovel as a weapon, according to John Welsh, spokesman for the Riverside County Department of Animal Services. Due to a prior strike, the sentencing resulted in the five-year term, Welsh said. The 3-year-old terrier mix, known in the Whitewater neighborhood as Rusty, had been a stray dog that several residents fed, gave water and occasionally took in. On June 8, 2015, a neighbor told an animal services officer he had seen Martinez “swing the shovel and hit the dog one last time before scooping the dog upon the shovel and tossing it over his back fence into the desert.” An animal services officer rushed Rusty to an emergency hospital for pets, but he died two days later.

(Black) Suspects arraigned in 'brutal' Bay City Thanksgiving homicide (of White man that was an 'acquaintance')
Steven A. BouzaDeMarckeon M. "Marcus" Jackson BAY CITY, MI -- On Halloween, a 20-year-old Bay City man was given a year of probation and a chance to avoid having a felony on his record. Less than a month later, police allege he and a teen stabbed a man to death and set his home on fire. Bay County District Judge Timothy J. Kelly on Friday, Dec. 2, arraigned DeMarckeon M. "Marcus" Jackson on single counts of open murder, felony murder, and larceny in a building. The first two charges carry maximum punishments of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The larceny count is a four-year felony. The day of the arraignment would have been the 60th birthday of Steven A. Bouza, the man police say Jackson and 16-year-old Rodrick Williams killed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24 or the night before. The larceny count Jackson faces stems from him allegedly stealing a video gaming console, cash, and motor vehicles from Bouza's residence, court records show. Magistrate Doner described the alleged crime to be "a heinous, brutal, and senseless act." An autopsy performed Saturday indicated Bouza had been stabbed multiple times. The fire was then set to cover up the slaying. The crime was not random, the suspects having been acquaintances of Bouza. Bouza's kindness toward kids was well-known. He would have cookouts and play games with neighborhood children. - (Black-on-white)
