Brooklyn artist died weeks after he was randomly attacked by a man
inside a Brooklyn bodega, according to authorities.Marc Faust, 66, succumbed to his injuries at Kings County Hospital on Tuesday night — two weeks after 24-year-old Jason Jacobs repeatedly punched him in the face and body in an unprovoked attack on July 2 inside of Food Corp. deli on Rogers Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, police sources and relatives told The Post. Faust was rushed in critical condition to Kings County Hospital, where medical staff ultimately made the decision to take him off life support, said his ex-wife, Lee Renner. “There was so much brain damage, so many broken bones in his face — his jaws, eye sockets, nose — and his brain leaked and he had a concussion,” Renner explained. “We were very worried if he came through we’d have to put him in a nursing home. We didn’t want to see him left in a vegetative state. We didn’t want to see him like that.” Jacobs was arrested the next day and charged with attempted murder and assault, police said. It was not immediately clear if his charges would ultimately be upgraded to include murder. - (Black-on-white) |

Police and his wife, were robbed at gunpoint Friday night.The incident happened around 9 p.m. near Patterson Park in the city's southeast area. The victim, Danny Murphy, was able to tell police that a white SUV with four people inside pulled up to them as they were walking. Police say, two black males, believed to be 18, got out of the SUV, showed a handgun and demanded the victims hand over their property. A purse, wallet, and cellphones were taken. (WXYZ) — Demetris Nelson, 26, has been charged with the
murder of aspiring minister, Brian
Anderson. And Nelson, who uses the alias of Lamont
Dashield, is also suspected of being involved in a home
invasion in the area of Outer Drive and Alter Road where a
12-year-old boy was homosexually assaulted on June
28.A warrant has been signed charging Nelson with multiple crimes including Felony Murder and Assault with Intent to Rob while Armed. He could be arraigned as early as Friday in homicide case. Under his alias, Lamont Dashield, Nelson has already been arraigned in another case on multiple charges that include Armed Robbery. His bond was set at $200,000 cash or surety. Sources tell 7 Action News that Nelson confessed to using various social media apps, including (Queer) Grindr, to target dozens of people to rob them. And just about two hours before he allegedly killed Anderson and critically wounded another man, Nelson allegedly used a firearm to rob a man he met on an app. Anyone believed to have been targeted by Nelson is urged to contact their local police department. |

48-year-old Waco man convicted of sexually abusing two
family members and forcing them to perform sex acts on each
other will spend the rest of his life in prison.Jurors in Waco’s 54th State District Court in the case of Billy Joe King returned a punishment verdict of 99 years for each of two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child. The jury found the 48-year-old King guilty on Wednesday, then spent about two hours Wednesday and Thursday deliberating punishment. Defendants convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child are not eligible for parole, meaning barring a successful appeal, King will die in prison. Prosecutors asked the jury to assess life sentences for each count. The victims, a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, each testified that King sexually abused them for two to three years. King first abused the boy when he was 6, while the girl was first abused when she was 9. King also made them perform sex acts with each other while he watched, they said. The girl reported the abuse on at least three occasions to King’s wife, Monica Renee King, but she sided with King and did nothing to stop it, the girl testified. |

33-year-old Shreveport man was booked into the Bossier Maximum
Security Prison over the weekend and charged in connection to the
rape of a juvenile girl. Frederick Lathan, of 3115 W
Gapenton Street in Shreveport, was arrested by the Bossier City
Police Department on a warrant charging him with one count
first-degree rape.His bond was set at $250,000 according to the booking records. A relative of the 14-year-old female reported the alleged incident to police, Bossier City Sgt. Brian Griffith told The Times. The alleged incident is believed to have happened within Bossier City jurisdiction and may have occurred sometime within the past year, Griffith said. |

30-year-old Shreveport man was arrested Friday and charged with rape
and sex-related offenses against juveniles. Gregory Earl Smith was arrested Friday morning around 9:30 and was booked at the Shreveport city jail on charges including aggravated rape, molestation of juveniles and indecent behavior with juveniles. Smith is accused of abusing one victim, younger than the age of 10, over the period of a year, according to the Shreveport Police Department. |

PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – A St.Petersburg man is behind bars after
deputies say he molested a
9-year-old girl. According to the Pinellas County
Sheriff’s Office 33-year-old, Don Thompson told the girl in
February that he needed to check to see if she was still a
virgin and then molested her.The victim told detectives that a month later, Thompson had her watch a pornographic video on his cellular phone. Police said they began investigating in June after a family member told police Thompson had inappropriate sexual activity with the girl. Thompson was arrested Friday at his workplace. He is charged with one count of Sexual Battery on a child less than 12 years old and one count of Prohibition of Certain Acts in Connection with Obscenity. |

Sex offender busted for rubbing genitals against woman on subway

subway pervert was arrested for rubbing his genitals on a woman
during a packed ride between Brooklyn and Manhattan after his victim
identified him on surveillance video, cops said Thursday.The 32-year-old woman was on the 4/5 subway in Atlantic Terminal on June 26 when Level 2 sex offender Roger Grant, 23, boarded and positioned himself behind her. “He got on, she felt him touch her buttocks,” Sgt. Chris O’Connell said. As the woman tried to move away, the man stayed with her and she could feel him rubbing up against her private areas, O’Connell said. When the train arrived at Bowling Green Station in Lower Manhattan, the pervert took off. “We were able to get video of him from Atlantic Terminal and she was able to identify him off of that,” O’Connell said. Cops figured out that Grant was the man on the tape, and that he had a meeting with his probation officer scheduled for Thursday night. Grant has five previous transit sex collars, officials said. He was charged with forcible touching. |

Philadelphia gas station and prying open an ATM machine, from which
police say he or she stole more than $8,000.The burglary happened around 12:10 a.m. Wednesday at a Sunoco gas station on the 8000 block of Germantown Avenue, the Philadelphia Police Department said. A second suspect waited on the roof as the first suspect committed the burglary, the PPD said. Surveillance video from inside the gas station shows a person climbing in legs-first and crouching onto a rack before turning to the camera and revealing a white covering on the bottom half of his or her face. It's unknown if the burglar was a man or a woman, but police said he or she was African American with a medium complexion and build. |

They allegedly tailed the minivan off the highway to the corner of East 175th Street and Walton Avenue, and boxed in the 20-year-old female driver and her three passengers, which included two girls, 12 and 13, cops and sources said. As the other motorist apparently was trying to make a U-turn away from the ambush, Hernandez’s portly pal lumbered up to the front passenger’s side window, cocked his fist and punched off the side mirror with a single blow, surveillance video of the incident shows. A man identified by sources as Hernandez then hurls a glass bottle into the same window, shattering it and causing the passenger seated alongside it to recoil in fear, the clip shows. The duo fled afterward, leaving the victims unharmed, but terrified. |

CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City man is facing murder charges in connection
to the death of a transgender woman. Marcus Lewis, 41, is
charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and
unlawful possession of a firearm in the death of 32-year-old Brooklyn
Lindsey. Lindsey was found dead on the front porch of a
home near Independence Avenue and Spruce on June 25. Lindsey
was shot multiple times and that DNA testing on shell casings led to
Lewis. When confronted with the DNA evidence, Lewis allegedly told
detectives that on the morning of the murder, he saw Lindsey walking
on Independence Avenue. Lewis told investigators Lindsey
allegedly approached him and tried to solicit a date.
When he tried to walk away, Lewis said Lindsey followed him, and
they were involved in a fight. Court records say he told police he
shot her before leaving the scene. |

Worth died of a bullet to the head.Police revealed details on Friday from the shooting clarifying how the gunman died. Court documents also shed light on a turbulent relationship with his ex-girlfriend. The man killed during a shootout with police was 19-year old Markevvion Devonte Cannon. Fort Worth police say Cannon refused to comply with officers’ orders to surrender his gun. It prompted a 9-year veteran SWAT officer to fire a single shot striking Cannon. The medical examiner says he died from a gunshot wound to the head. Cannon's criminal background includes a family violence conviction in February 2019 involving his ex-girlfriend- The two have a child together. Investigators say Cannon was holding three hostages inside the apartment when officers arrived: a 12-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman. He used one of the juveniles as a human shield before they were released. |

murder of an elected official’s grandson were denied bail during a
court appearance Thursday. The men are facing charges in the death
of 20-year-old Curtis Jenkins III,
the grandson of Camden City Council President Curtis Jenkins.Thirty-two-year-old Brandon Beverly, of Westville, New Jersey was the first to appear in the cases back to back court hearings with the victim’s distraught family members looking on. Beverly is the accused mastermind of Jenkins’ kidnapping and was charged with murder. Despite the difficult testimony, loved ones of Jenkins III say they will be at every court hearing until justice is served. Authorities say on the night of June 30, Beverly had Jenkins, who ran a food delivery business, deliver a platter of food and then allegedly kidnapped him and used a stolen cellphone to make a ransom call. Beverly allegedly became frustrated trying to obtain a ransom and suffocated Jenkins with a plastic bag. The second hearing was for Jalen Carr. He is accused of taking part in a robbery where the stolen phone used to make the ransom call was obtained. He is not charged with murder. |

Clark was charged in the November 2016 death of Andre Price III and was also accused of threatening the life of his 2-year-old sister. Authorities have said Clark thought her boyfriend was cheating on her. During hours of angry texts, Clark sent pictures and graphic videos of abuse to the boy's father, who was charged with felony child endangerment because he didn't intervene. He has pleaded guilty and will be sentenced July 29. |

U.S. illegally after being deported twice has been charged
with killing an Iowa woman and her two children.Marvin Oswaldo Escobar-Orellana, 31, made an initial court appearance Thursday in Des Moines, where the judge set his bond at $3 million cash and scheduled his next hearing for July 29. He is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and hasn't entered a plea. Escobar-Orellana was arrested Tuesday night in the fatal shootings of 29-year-old Rossibeth Flores-Rodriguez and her two children, 11-year-old Grecia Daniela Alvarado-Flores and 5-year-old Ever Jose Mejia-Flores. A police spokesman said investigators have been told that Flores-Rodriguez had come to Iowa to work with Escobar-Orellana, a self-employed roofer. The bodies of the three were found at the home that they shared with Escobar-Orellana, police Sgt. Paul Parizek said Thursday. Escobar-Orellana's wife and his own children also lived in the home, but were not at the home at the time of the killings, Parizek said. Police have also been told that Flores-Rodriguez met the suspect in her home country of Honduras. Escobar-Orellana asked the Judge through a Spanish-language interpreter why he was charged... Escobar-Orellana gave police a false name when they arrested him: Marvin Esquivel-Lopez. Escobar-Orellana was deported in 2010 and again in 2011. In 2010, Escobar-Orellana was convicted of illegal entry into the U.S. His 2011 deportation stemmed from illegal entry to the U.S. near Laredo, Texas, court records said. He was sentenced to 15 days confinement and ordered not to return to the country illegally. |

He later admitted to police he staged the crime, and had made the bogus claims in hopes his ex-boyfriend would be arrested On Wednesday, while Nuñez was staying in East Elmhurst with Raul Moreno and relatives who were visiting from the Dominican Republic, the man became irate after the family asked him to leave, different police sources said. Nuñez doused the kitchen with gasoline and set it on fire, killing 6-year-old Emma Dominguez and her 76-year-old grandfather, Claudio Rodriguez. Two others, including Emma’s 10-month-old brother Liam and her 35-year-old mother Elizabeth Rodriguez, were critically injured, and suffered burns on more than 70 percent of their bodies, relatives and authorities said. |

SHAWNEE, KS (KCTV) – A man has been charged in connection with a
murder that happened in Shawnee.On Saturday, July 13 at about 11:30 a.m., officers were called to AdventHealth Shawnee Mission to investigate a domestic battery. Officers then saw the victim, a 30-year-old woman who was living in KC, was unconscious and receiving medical treatment. Court documents identify her as Lucia Frayre. Shawnee Detectives and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Crime Lab then began investigating the case. On Tuesday at about 6:45 p.m., Frayre succumbed to her injuries and died. On Friday, the suspect was arrested and taken to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center. Then, on Saturday, the district attorney said that 28-year-old Felipe Chavez Jr. from Shawnee had been charged in connection with the incident that happened on July 13. Chavez has been charged with premeditated first-degree murder, rape, and aggravated criminal sodomy. |

Hernandez, of McAllen, was convicted of numerous drug charges in March, including attempting to aid and abet possession with intent to distribute. Hernandez was a Progreso police sergeant when federal agents arrested him in 2017. A criminal complaint reveals that Hernandez accepted cash from a federal informant to provide security for a drug cartel associate and a shipment of cocaine. |

family is mourning a young boy who was struck and killed by an
unlicensed driver while he was walking across a highway in South
Jersey with his grandmother.Marco Yu, 7, his 71-year-old grandmother and his 3-year-old brother were crossing White Horse Pike in Egg Harbor City near Buffalo Avenue on Wednesday around 8:45 p.m. As they were walking, Yu and his grandmother were struck by a pickup truck. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene while his grandmother was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries that are considered life-threatening. Yu's younger brother was not hurt. Prosecutors identified the driver as 30-year-old Jorge Rodriguez of Horsham, Pennsylvania. He was released after being charged with being an unlicensed driver involved in a fatal crash. He was also ticketed for not having a license. It wasn't known Thursday if he retained an attorney. "No driver's license," Nicole Ren, Yu's mother, said while in tears. "Why are you driving the car?" Yu's family owns a restaurant in the area. Yu, his grandmother and brother had visited a grocery store shortly before the crash. |

"He was better than good, he was the best," Valentina Fiorillo said through tears. "There will never be anyone like him again." Fiorillo and Bijvank met online and decided to go to Bonnaroo Music Festival together in 2012. Bijvank lived in the Netherlands and went home to his family after the festival. "When it was time to go home, we were really sad and we decided we'd see each other again," Fiorillo said. Fiorillo proposed and Bijvank moved to Atlanta. Arrest affidavits released Tuesday reveal that Cozart and Simmons knew one another and were involved in fight at a Johnson Street apartment before the shooting. “Detectives know that Tyquez Simmons was brought to Johnson Street ... for the purpose of collecting money,” the affidavits said. “Witnesses ... corroborated that (he) confronted the victim over money owed, which turned into a physical altercation.” Detectives learned that Cozart was inside the apartment when Simmons started pounding on the rear door and demanded to be let inside, the affidavits said. Simmons demanded about $20 from the victim during the fight, which was broken up by someone else inside the apartment. Simmons left through the rear door. Cozart stayed inside but eventually left out the front door, presumably to get to his workplace, Trojan Labor, by 5:30 a.m., the affidavits said. Monday night has been arrested.The child is identified as 8-year-old Mark Edward Mason. Keith Burley, 43, of Edinburg, Pennsylvania, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals. Police say the call came in at first as a kidnapping and “rolling domestic dispute,” which means a dispute was occurring inside a vehicle between Burley and his (adulterous) girlfriend, 36-year-old Maram Saada. The woman had her two children inside the car with Burley. (The surname Saada is from ALGERIA) Trp Jim Long explains, “There was an argument with something to do with the cell phones. It got physical and it went from words to physical abuse.” Police say Saada exited the vehicle at the New Castle Fire Department after being assaulted by Burley. “The female that was involved with the domestic in New Castle City was his current girlfriend, and the two children belonged to that woman,” said Tpr. James Long, of Pennsylvania State Police. Police say Burley then drove the car with Saada’s 7- and 8-year-old children back to the home on High Street and allegedly fatally stabbed Mason. Three other children witnessed the stabbing, including the boy’s brother, along with a 15-year-old and another 8-year-old. According to the criminal complaint, the surviving children told police that Burley was yelling, “Die!” during the stabbing. The other children were not injured, according to police. Trp Long says, “He committed the murder with a knife the kids got a glimpse of it and they did the best they could get help.” State police say Mason’s 7-year-old brother was able to run out of the house and to a neighbor’s home. Gaudet was found dead inside a trailer in the 6000 block of Plank Road. Her body was wrapped in a bedspread with a plastic shopping bag around her face. Baton Rouge police detectives wrote in Joseph's arrest warrant that Gaudet's head appeared "smashed in with some sort of blunt object." Joseph showed up at his neighbor's house two days after the crime and confessed, police said. He then turned himself in to authorities and confessed again. Joseph told police he and Gaudet, his new girlfriend, had been smoking crack cocaine together all evening when they got into an argument. At one point, Gaudet tried to hit him with a hammer and he took it from her. Later on, he said, the argument escalated and he "lost it," police have said. He hit her three or four times over the head, then covered her face with a shopping bag to "finish her off," police said. Jackson was arrested on June 22, 2013, for possession of marijuana and intention to distribute according to court records. Later, Jackson was arrested on May 17, 2018, after police were called by Jerrica Spellman to a home in the 500 block of Farr Road, records show. The case was deferred adjudication in July of last year, pending Jackson attending anger management classes. He also had to pay $140 in court fees. There was no resolution of the case. Spellman told police at the time that he pushed her down. Jackson admitted to police to pushing her and said she hit her face on a table. |

Authorities say the 23-year-old Hassel was ambushed while visiting his family in St. Joseph Township. He died of multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head, according to the autopsy report. Riverview was charged with felony animal abuse Friday. He does not
yet have a listed attorney. The suspect is the EX-boyfriend of
the owner of the dog. Charging documents say police were called to Spriggs' home for a report of a man beating a dog. Officers found a hockey stick in the front yard and blood stains, then found a puppy lying in a pool of blood. Court documents state that Spriggs confessed to raising the dog above his head and letting it drop to the ground before he hit it multiple times with a hockey stick. Police said Spriggs told investigators he was blacked out with rage and couldn't remember how many times he struck the 4-month-old puppy. He also reportedly told police he blamed “stress” for the incident, and that he was an angry person and had been considering harming someone or something for some time. Spriggs' criminal history in Missouri includes assault, drug possession and distribution. |

scaling down 11 floors of a North York highrise apartment in an
unsuccessful bid to elude police bent on arresting him for murder.Now, Spider-Man won’t be rappelling down the side of buildings any time soon for two reasons. Facing charges of second-degree murder in connection with a deadly shooting in May, the 35-year-old Vassel’s in a Toronto hospital — paralyzed from the waist down — after Monday’s gun battle in the Queen St. and Ossington Ave. area. Shot three times, bullets pierced Vassel’s right lower back, upper thigh and left lower leg. It’s not yet known whether his paralysis is temporary or permanent. The shooters scattered 22 9-mm shell casings on the ground and wounded two others beside Vassel, said police. “It was an all out gun battle,” Det. Darren Worth of 14 Division said. “At this point, there is no known connection between the shooting and the murder.” Vassel was in his hospital bed on Wednesday when police charged him with second-degree murder, stemming from the May 3 shooting death of Justin Kyle Ezeard, 32, on Millwick Dr. Vassel spent more than seven years in jail for the cold-blooded shooting death of pot dealer Husam Dagheim in 2007 in the parking lot of the Coliseum movie theatre near Square One in Mississauga. explicit photos to a 15-year-old
boy and asking for photos in return.Hopkinsville police arrested 37-year-old Bryan Wimbleduff on Tuesday at the McDonald's on North Drive, where he works. Christian County Schools confirmed Wednesday that he was a paraprofessional football coach at Christian County Middle School. He has since resigned from that position. Police said he contacted the victim through Snapchat and requested pictures of the teen's genitals and asked for him to masturbate in exchange for money. Wimbleduff is also accused of sending the 15-year-old graphic pictures of himself. Wimbleduff was charged with prohibited use of electric communication to procure a minor, promoting a minor in sex performance, and distribution of obscene matter to minors, first offense. |

on Tuesday arrested a teenager who allegedly robbed a taxi driver in
the Bronx Sunday night, causing the driver to chase after him and
get fatally run over by his own car.The 16-year-old (NEGRO), whose name was not released because he is a minor, was hit with murder and robbery charges for the caper, police said. He was awaiting arraignment Tuesday. The driver, 65-year-old Mohammad Zafrullah, had just dropped off the suspect on Seward Avenue near Rosedale Avenue in Clason Point and was preparing to pull out when the teen walked around to the front, passenger-side window, reached in and grabbed his bag, sources said Monday. Zafrullah got out of his car to chase down the thief — but didn’t put his car in park, according to sources. As he moved behind the vehicle, it rolled backward, slamming the driver to the ground before continuing into a parked car, sources said. |

Calif.- - The Beaumont Police Department arrested four people
accused of running a funeral panhandling scam.The group was asking for money from drivers over the weekend along the area of 1st Street and Beaumont Avenue. Beaumont PD wrote that when a member of the department's Multiple Enforcement Team spoke with the group, they claimed they were trying to collect money for a family member's funeral. Once the officer started asking more questions, they admitted they were running a scam. One of the scammers was wanted on a felony warrant for violation of parole. He was arrested and booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility, according to Beaumont PD. He and the three others also face charges for theft by false pretenses. Police have not released the identities of any of the four suspects at this time. |

to the sexual assault. Police say the suspect is a black man between

Searching for (black) Man Who Beat Other Driver With Tire Iron
in Long Beach Road Rage Incident Police
are searching for a driver who beat another driver with a tire iron
in a road rage incident in Long Beach on May 10. The beating
happened on Interstate 605 southbound, south of Spring Street,
around 7:55 p.m. on May 10, California Highway Patrol said in a news
release. A white Chevrolet Silverado was in a crash with an unknown
model Nissan sedan.After the crash, both drivers exited the freeway at Willow Street and got out of their vehicles. The driver of the Nissan approached the driver of the Chevy Silverado and began beating the woman in the arms, chest, and face with a tire iron and his fists. The victim sustained major injuries and is now in the recovery process, CHP said. The man then got back in the Nissan and fled west on Willow Street. The Nissan is described as a late-model white four-door sedan, possibly a Sentra, Altima, or Maxima, displaying a pink Lyft light on the passenger side of the windshield. The suspect is described as a 40-year-old black man with a full beard, black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark blue beanie with a white stripe, a blue shirt, black basketball shorts, and white tennis shoes. |

search for a man who robbed a woman at gunpoint as she sat in her
car Monday morning. Police were called just after 11 a.m. to a
parking lot behind a business First Street and Grant Avenue, where a
45-year-old woman told them she was seated in her car
when the robber opened the passenger door and pointed a handgun. The
man took her money and credit cards and fled in a dark blue
Volkswagen Tiguan. The woman was uninjured. Police searched
unsuccessfully for the robber, who is described as a black male
in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5-foot-10 with a medium build. |

A city correction officer was stabbed while trying to break up a
brawl between a bouncer and a pair of unruly customers at a
Brooklyn bar, law enforcement sources and officials said Wednesday.Jaheem Smith, 41, was off-duty and at Angry Wade’s at the corner of Butler and Smith streets in Boerum Hill around 3 a.m. Saturday when he spotted the guard struggling with two patrons and tried to help, police said. The 30-year-old bouncer was trying to escort the irate customers out of the bar when they stabbed him twice in the left side of his torso, cops said. When Smith stepped in, the enraged pair turned their attention to him — also stabbing him in the torso. Smith was taken to Methodist Hospital in stable condition. The bar worker was also taken to the hospital with a collapsed lung. The patrons, identified as 27-year-old Genesis Cano and Andrae Hall, 33, were each charged with attempted murder and multiple counts of assault, cops said. Police sources said Hall had also made anti-gay statements during the encounter. |

Minn. (AP) — The Diocese of Crookston has reached a $5 million
settlement with 15 people who were
children when they were sexually abused by priests.As part of the settlement, the diocese agreed to make public the names and files of clergy who have been accused of abuse. That information will be released at a later date. Victims’ attorney Jeff Anderson said Wednesday that the settlement brings some closure for survivors and is a step in the right direction. The diocese says that while victims can never be fully compensated, it hopes the settlement can offer healing and justice. Most of the 15 victims sued the diocese under a 2013 law that gave victims of childhood sexual abuse a three-year window to bring lawsuits against abusers. With the settlement, the diocese avoided filing for bankruptcy. |

in South Asheville shooting death  ASHEVILLE,
N.C. (WLOS) — A third person has been arrested in connection with a
South Asheville homicide that happened Thursday. Asheville police
say that as a result of the investigation into the location of Marteise
Jovan Hines, they developed evidence Friday to arrest
and charge 22-year-old Isaac
R. White of Asheville with one count of accessory after
the fact to first-degree murder.White is currently in custody at the Buncombe County Detention Center. The Asheville Police Department also arrested 23-year-old Hines, whom police had previously described as armed and dangerous. Hines was taken into custody by Buncombe County Sheriff’s Deputies in Swannanoa just after 3 p.m. on Friday. A BCSO representative said deputies went to a residence to serve a search warrant, and Hines surrendered. He is charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, attempted breaking and entering and possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with the death of 37-year-old Justin Marshall Spry Thursday on Reed Street. There is a another suspect in the investigation. Arrest warrants from the Asheville Police Department show 17-year-old Zamar Daequan Scott is also in custody, charged in the same incident with felony first-degree murder, felony attempted breaking and entering and misdemeanor possession of a handgun by a minor. - (Black-on-white) |

Police Department Sgt. Bill Shiflett Injured, Two Dead In
Shooting At Baltimore Methadone Clinic
 BALTIMORE
(WJZ) — Two people are dead, including the suspect, and
two people, including a Baltimore City police sergeant, were
injured in a shooting at a drug rehabilitation
center in Baltimore Monday morning.Police responded to a report of an active shooter situation at a methadone clinic in the 2100 block of Maryland Avenue around 7:09 a.m. When officers arrived they were told by people outside that there was a person inside with a gun who had fired shots inside the building. The officers entered the building and encountered an armed person, who they told to drop the weapon, but instead, the suspect opened fire on the officers. The officers returned fire, but one was shot by the suspect. Another officer dragged the sergeant to safety. Sgt. Bill Shiflett, 51, was shot in the abdomen and immediately taken into surgery at Shock Trauma. That sergeant is now recovering from surgery. Shiflett, a 25-year-veteran of the force, was wearing a bullet-proof vest at the time of the shooting, but the bullet was fired below the vest, Commissioner Michael Harrison said. The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. A gun was found on the scene. Another man was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside the clinic in a separate room. He was rushed to an area hospital where he died from his injuries. A staffer also sustained non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses say the suspect allegedly tried to steal medication from the clinic before opening fire. - (Black-on-white) |
