Man charged in 2013 double murder
of mom and daughter in Clinton

TOWNSHIP, Mich. (FOX 2) - A
major break in a years' old murder
case out of Macomb County came
Thursday. It involves the brutal
double murder of
a woman and her 11-year-old daughter
in Clinton Township. Now, prosecutors have charged a suspect in the case with both murders. This case goes back to July 2013 at the Parkway Village Apartments. The apartment manager was called to do a welfare check on 46-year-old Tina Geiger, who was mentally impaired, and her 11-year-old daughter Krissy. Both of them were found dead. Their throats had been slashed. The Clinton Township Police said no signs of forced entry into the apartment were found, and they had no motive for the double murder and worst off, no suspect. But three days later, a man was arrested. Yet, he had an alibi and three months later he was released. Nearly seven years went by and the suspect was still on the run. But now 40-year-old Tony James Johnson, from Detroit, has been arrested and charged with two counts of open murder. He's not the usual suspect. "It speaks volumes that at 40 years old he has no assaultive criminal history at all," an attorney said during the arraignment Thursday. Clinton Township Police are not releasing details about why this case remained open for so long or why Johnson is now charged. He was given a high bond of $1,000,000. Johnson will appear back in court on August 24. If convicted he faces life in prison. - (Black-on-White) |

Toronto (Canada) police are appealing for help in identifying the suspects wanted in connection with a “brazen” and “cowardly” murder that saw a Scarborough man fatally shot in the back as he waited for a ride to work earlier this week. “I’m looking for the public’s assistance in this. This was a horrific, cowardly and uncalled-for act,” Det. Sgt. Ted Lioumanis told reporters at a news conference Friday as he stood surrounded by members of the victim’s family. Lioumanis said by all accounts, the victim – 45-year-old John Wheeler – was a hard-working man who worked some 15 hours a day as a general contractor. There’s no apparent reason, Lioumanis said, to explain why anyone would come up to him in the middle of the night and shoot him in the back. According to Lioumanis, the suspect vehicle arrived at the apartment building in the area of Danforth Road and Eglinton Avenue East at around 3 a.m. on Aug. 12, its arrival captured on one of the videos released by police. Around 20-25 minutes later, Wheeler emerges from the building to wait for his ride, a lunch pail in hand along with two coffees – one for him and another for his friend. Police were called to the scene at around 3:36 a.m. and arrived to find Wheeler with a single gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Another video released by police captured the two suspects – one pointing a gun and another holding a duffel bag. The first suspect is described as a Black man in his 20s who is wearing dark clothing with white markings on the sleeves, and a mask. He was carrying a firearm. The second suspect is described as a white man in his 20s who was wearing dark clothing with white markings on the front, and a mask. 23-year-old Robert
Couglin has died after a
shooting on the 600 block of Shelby
Avenue on Thursday afternoon.Police say they are pursuing strong leads after Coughlin was shot in an apartment he was renting. According to Metro Police, a call came in to 911 from a resident saying there was a shooting outside of his house and that two young Black males ran toward Cayce Homes. They allegedly fled in a silver sedan. Police say there are indications Coughlin knew the two suspects. Coughlin was transported to the hospital where he reportedly died from his injuries. Anyone with information on this murder are asked to call Crime Stoppers at (615) 74-CRIME.  TOLEDO,
Ohio (WTVG) -A Toledo man is
behind bars, accused of felonious
assault and robbery.Police say that on Wednesday, in broad daylight on the 2800 block of Lagrange Street, 22-year-old Fredrick Golden beat Daniel Huggins in the middle of the road. Video of the incident appears to show Golden stomping and jumping on the head of the 45-year-old. Several people witnessed the incident, telling police that the suspect and victim exchanged words, when Golden chased Huggins into the street, allegedly knocking him out cold. According to a police report the suspect got on top of the victim, punching him 15-20 times. The suspect even took off the victim’s shoes and threw them. Police also charged Golden with robbery. The video appears to show him taking something out of the victim’s pocket. Two men can be seen dragging Daniel Huggins out of the street, placing him on a bench. Huggins is in critical condition at a local hospital. His uncle said the man lives a rough life, but didn’t deserve to be attacked. |

Wheaton.Christopher Britter, 30, is accused of stealing the Ford F-150 about 1:30 a.m. while it was parked in front of the DuPage County Complex, 505 N. County Farm Road, according to a statement from Wheaton police. Darien police and Illinois State Police found him sleeping in the truck shortly after 5 a.m. near Lemont Road and I-55 in Darien, police said. He was arrested and brought to the Wheaton Police Department for processing. Britter, who lives in Buena Park, is charged with felony counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and theft of property exceeding $10,000, police said. He was transferred to the DuPage County Jail to await a bail hearing. |

McCann filed 10 felony charges on
Friday against Dontari Hudson
for an incident involving the
non-fatal shooting of two Aurora
police officers.Hudson is being charged with three counts of criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree, five counts of assault in the first degree, and two counts of aggravated robbery. On July 27, officers from the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force were following Hudson as part of an investigation into a series of armed convenience store robberies around the Denver Metro area. Denver Police Division Chief Ron Thomas told FOX31 that Hudson got out of the vehicle that was being followed and ran through a parking lot. Officers followed him until he carjacked a vehicle that had two civilians in it, Thomas said. When he tried to drive away, police used the vehicle they were in to block him. Thomas said that is when the exchange of gunfire took place, wounding two officers and Hudson. |

two women with his SUV in River
North on Monday night — and then
intentionally running over one of them
again.Police arrested Edgar Roman, age 25, at the 17th District (Albany Park) police station when he tried to report his heavily damaged vehicle stolen later that night, according to a CPD report. Zoraleigh Ryan, a 55-year-old grandmother from Chandler, Arizona, and her 20-year-old daughter, were struck by a silver SUV as they waited to cross the intersection of State and Hubbard streets around 10:30 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The driver got out of the SUV, saw the women on the ground, and then circled back around to run over Ryan again, police reported. She was dragged for a half-block and was later pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Ryan’s daughter, who also lists an Arizona address, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition. |

shooting. The victim was identified as 19-year-old Angel May Carter of Fort Wayne. Police are looking for 40-year-old Thomas Jermaine Jackson. Police consider Jackson armed and dangerous. “They had a very rocky, sometimes physically abusive relationship.” Carter’s family said she had been in a serious (must have been sexual) relationship with Jackson for nine months. Police responded to a Rodeway Inn initially for an unknown problem around 4am Sunday morning. A caller informed police dispatch that a woman was bleeding and lying on the ground outside of a room on the second floor. Police said they arrived and found the woman with apparent gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Police believed Jackson was possibly in an adjacent room to where the woman was found. Of 329 cases reviewed by the committee between 2003 and 2018, two-thirds involved an actual or pending separation. In half the cases the perpetrator was depressed. facing charges after authorities say
he shot and killed his cousin during
an argument outside a funeral home on
Detroit's east side. The shooting happened Monday, Aug. 11 just after 10:30 a.m. outside Clora Funeral Home on Seven Mile near Mound Road. Prosecutors say police were called to the area for shots fired, and when they got there they saw a man had been shot. Police say the victim was a 58-year-old cousin. Authorities have not yet given the name of the victim. Major Clora Jr. is now facing second-degree murder and felony firearm charges. He was arraigned Thursday morning. Police at the scene Monday told FOX 2 an argument happened before the shooting. Other details have not yet been given. An unrelated funeral was happening inside when the shooting happened. Nobody else was hurt. |

Warner Robins nursing home last month.Leonard Raymon Francis Brown, 28, who was employed at Southern Pines at 801 Elberta Road at the time, was charged with attempted rape and elder abuse. The victim was a dementia patient at the nursing home, according to an arrest warrant. According to the warrant, here’s what happened: A shift supervisor confronted Brown after the supervisor saw the victim’s gown pulled down, Brown was ordered out of her room and told not go back in her room. Brown clocked out, but immediately returned to the room. Surveillance video from the nursing home shows Brown coming back out of the room a few minutes later with the victim’s gown in his hand. He takes another gown from a cart in the hallway. He then goes back into the victim’s room. Brown is in the room for about 30 minutes before a nurse walks by and sees him. The nurse gets other staff members and they go into room. “Upon entry into the room, the nurse observed Brown at the foot of (the victim’s) bed, zipper down,” the arrest warrant read. “(The victim) was off to the side of the bed and her gown was open...” Brown left the nursing home when confronted. Brown was a contracted employee through Healthcare Services Group and had been on the job three days at the time of the alleged incident. Brown, who worked in housekeeping and lawn maintenance, was immediately fired, Stefano said. |

a fatal dog attack that occurred in

General Amy Weirich said that Phyllis
Jones, 61, her daughter Kimberly
Jordan, 40, and Jordan’s son Dedricz
Perry, 22, were taken into
custody Tuesday by U.S.
Marshals. All three face reckless
homicide charges for owning the dogs
involved in the attack that left Doris
Arrington, 59, dead. All three
have since bonded out of jail.The attack occurred about 8:00 am in the 1200 block of Capital Avenue in the New Chicago area. Police were dispatched to the area and found Arrington's body. Authorities said Arrington had severe trauma to her legs and arms. Her cause of death was "massive blood loss." A statement issued by U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller states, "Unsecured dogs were deadly weapons in this horrible crime. I'm pleased that the Marshals Service had a hand in bringing the owners to justice." After the fatal attack -- that lacked any media coverage in April -- Memphis police located four dogs with blood on their mouths and coats. Multiple complaints had been made to Memphis Animal Services and the Mayor's Action Center prior to the deadly mauling, Weirich's office said. Residents had complained the dogs were aggressive and could escape their enclosure. One man told WREG the dogs previously chased a man up a tree. No breed information was released. Of the three generation family member defendants, Jordan had two fairly recent photographs of dogs on her Facebook page. The three or four pit bulls are young in the February 2019 photographs. A death date of September 4, 2018 is also seen in the background (the images were not taken before that date). That places the pit bulls at 1 to 2 years old at the time of the attack. Reckless homicide is a Class D felony in Tennessee with a prison sentence of 2 to 12 years. |

(CBS) — A Philadelphia man has been
sentenced to more than 14 years in
federal prison for a shooting. It
comes after an initial plea deal with
the District Attorney’s Office was
criticized.The U.S. attorney for the region took over the case last year after calling (Soros puppet) District Attorney Larry Krasner’s plea deal too lenient. Mike Poeng’s life was almost taken from his family during a botched robbery that happened in May 2018. That’s when security video shows Poeng, who police blurred out, washing his white SUV in West Philadelphia. Then, officers say Jovaun Patterson is seen carrying a loaded AK-47, firing a shot into Poeng’s hip. “Mike Poeng almost died and his life will never be the same from this day forward,” Poeng’s attorney Tom Malone said. Malone says Patterson was initially offered three-and-a-half to 10 years in prison in a plea deal offered by Krasner’s office, a deal Poeng never agreed to. So U.S. Attorney William McSwain stepped in and took over the case last year. “The law-abiding citizens of this city know where the U.S. Attorneys Office stands. We stand with them and our law enforcement partners,” McSwain said. McSwain says his office will continue taking cases from the (pro-criminal pansy Soros-puppet) district attorney if the time doesn’t meet the crime. “Jovaun Patterson has been sentenced to over 14 years in federal prison … and now will serve what we think is an appropriate sentence,” McSwain said. Since the shooting, Poeng has had to sell his West Philly deli because he could no longer work. He also moved his family out of state. |

coronavirus crisis.Charles Morgan, 59, of Martha’s Vineyard, stopped at the Rodeway Inn & Suites in Dania Beach while on his way to visit relatives on Aug. 1 when convicted killer Alphonso Washington, 59, allegedly struck, according to the Vineyard Gazette. “I am beyond belief,” Morgan’s wife, Jackie Flynn-Morgan, told the local paper. “We are just overwhelmed.” When cops found Morgan on lying on the bathroom floor the next day, his larynx was crushed so badly it had likely been caused by the killer “stomping on a person’s throat,” according to a police report cited by the Sun-Sentinel. He also suffered neck wounds from a “sharp-edged instrument,” and was pronounced dead a the scene, police said. Washington, who was later charged with murder, had been staying at the hotel for two months as part of a program by the city of Fort Lauderdale to help homeless people escape the coronavirus, according to the paper. The ex-con — who was convicted of killing a young woman in Homestead, Fla., in 1985, — had been using the inn as a semi-permanent residence, and having his mail delivered there. Video footage from the morning of Aug. 2 allegedly shows Washington arguing with Morgan, who was sitting outside his room on a chair. Police believe Washington later followed him into the room and murdered him. Morgan, who went by the nickname Charlie, had been married to Flynn-Morgan for 22 years. told a judge Wednesday he is ill and

attack.Deng Mabiour spoke to the court by telephone from his cell at the Red Deer Remand Centre, where he is being held in quarantine due to the pandemic. The court clerk read the charges and Judge W. Albert Skinner asked Mabiour if he understood them. "I don't remember everything in detail," he said. "When I get healthy, I will remember everything." Pressed by the judge, Mabiour said, "I didn't remember everything because I'm sick. I need a doctor." He then laughed. . The matter was adjourned briefly to allow a defence lawyer to speak to Mabiour. When Mabiour was back on the phone, the judge told him, "You have to understand what you are charged with." Again the man repeated that he didn't understand because he is sick. Skinner advised him to contact legal aid to obtain a lawyer before his next court appearance on Sept. 9. Walter Reynolds, 45, was attacked with a hammer and a machete on Monday morning inside the Village Mall Walk-in Clinic. He died later in hospital. Mabiour, 54, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with first-degree murder, assault with a weapon and assaulting a police officer. He has no known criminal record. RCMP have described the attack as targeted and premeditated. Mabiour and Reynolds knew each other through the clinic. "In 27 years of policing, I've never seen a doctor attacked like that." He had blood on him, wasn't making sense, and tried to grab one of the children. Police believe he was high on PCP at the time. Police say the great-grandmother got in the middle of it to protect the kids, but that's when Alexander allegedly put her in a headlock and started choking her. An undercover investigator was at the gas station following up on another matter and ran out to intervene. When Alexander turned on him, police say some witnesses jumped in to back up the officer and get Alexander into custody. “The great-grandmother is bruised a bit,” Capt. Richard Conklin. “The children witnessed this whole thing so they're certainly traumatized but the good news is no one was seriously injured.” Alexander faces several charges including unlawful restraint, assault on an elderly person, assault on a police officer and risk of injury to minors. |

employed. Easton police said that on Tuesday, Aug. 11, detectives took Travis K. Brooks into custody on arrest warrants. One arrest warrant charges Brooks with second-degree rape, third- and fourth-degree sex offense, vulnerable adult abuse and second-degree assault. Brooks was also served with another arrest warrant charging him with two counts of credit card: steal another’s and eight counts of theft: less than $100. Brooks was transported to the Talbot County Detention Center pending a hearing. Police said the latter warrant stems from an incident that happened on April 15, when officers responded to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton to investigate a theft. Officers learned that a patient's money had been stolen from her wallet while she was having a procedure done. Brooks, who was employed by the hospital at the time, had stolen the money. Brooks was taking photographs of patients' credit cards. Brooks was then arrested. An investigation was initiated into the stolen credit cards. Police said detectives conducted multiple search and seizure warrants and uncovered a video that Brooks recorded in December 2019, which shows Brooks sexually assaulting an unconscious patient. years in prison.Enrique Leyva, 48, who appeared via video for the sentencing in Manhattan Supreme Court, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in July as part of a plea deal for the March 2018 slaying. After suffocating Veronica Ivins with a pillow for 10 minutes, checking occasionally for a pulse, he strangled her with his bare hands to make sure she was dead, according to prosecutors. He then called 911 and confessed, “I killed my roommate.” Leyva, who has mental health issues, told police he snapped after hearing Ivins’ snoring from her room. He had been invited to live in Ivins’ Sullivan Street apartment as her caretaker three years before the murder. After Leyva moved in, neighbors reported that Ivins and her apartment became increasingly untidy. |

Buffalo, charges have been filed. Antonio Brown, 34, of Buffalo, was the driver of a Maserati that struck a Toyota occupied by Anthony Twentyfive III and Kristin Labruno on Seneca Street just after 2:30 in the morning October 27. Both were taken to the hospital where they later died from their injuries. Tuesday, Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case arraigned Brown on a grand jury indictment charging him with one count of aggravated vehicular manslaughter, one count of vehicular manslaughter and two counts of manslaughter second. Kristine Tracy's husband, Stan, says her wedding ring was stolen. The two have been married for nearly 50 years. "It' the longest memory the two of us have. She never took it off," he said. "Honestly, I would've liked to of gone in there and grabbed people by the throat and shaken them." On July 11, Stan could no longer take care of Kristine's Alzheimer's so she was placed in a nursing home at Villa at Green Lake Estates in West Bloomfield. But days later, she was beaten. "What goes through someone's mind to take advantage of an Alzheimer's victim, 67 years old, tear off a ring that's been on her finger since 1971," said Greg Rohl, the attorney suing Villa at Green Lake Estates. Stan says the nursing home told him Kristine's injuries were because she fell. "They don't let them fall on their [expletive] on their head. They don't do that," Stan argued. But police said videotape showed Kristine was assaulted by an orderly who worked at the nursing home. Meanwhile, the suspect, Tirrell Mercer, Jr. was charged with armed robbery, a felony, and elder abuse, a misdemeanor. custody Monday night, about 24 hours
after police said he shot and killed a
5-year-old boy. Darius N. Sessoms, 25, was apprehended in Goldsboro by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, Goldsboro police and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. He was charged with first-degree murder and was being held without bond in the Wilson County jail. During a brief court hearing Tuesday morning, he said he planned to hire his own lawyer and rejected an attempt to have a judge appoint an attorney for him. Police were called to a shooting in a neighborhood in the 5100 block of Archers Road just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Family members said Cannon Hinnant was playing outside his father's house when he was shot in the head. The boy's two sisters, ages 8 and 7, saw their brother get shot, according to Cannon's mother. Cannon was taken to Wilson Medical Center, where he died. No details about a possible motive for the shooting have been released, but police said the shooting wasn't random. Sessoms lives next door to Cannon's father, and a neighbor said that the two men had dinner together Saturday night and that Sessoms was at his neighbor's home earlier Sunday. Doris Lybrand, who witnessed the shooting, said Sessoms ran up to Cannon, put the gun near his head and fired before running back to his own house. "My first reaction was he's playing with the kids," Lybrand said. "For a second, I thought, 'That couldn't happen.' People don't run across the street and kill kids." She said she realized the gun was real when she saw Cannon's father's reaction to the shooting, and she quickly went inside her home, locked the door and tried to call 911. "You don't expect to see somebody shoot someone," she said. He was then seen on the surveillance video leaving her apartment and knocking on another the door of another unit several doors down, the charges said. As the woman living in the apartment began to open the door, Trice pushed his way inside and sexually assaulted her, the charges said. The woman called for help around 7:30 a.m., police said. Allen.Latricsa Allen is the mother of Latrell Allen. She, along with Latrell Allen’s grandparents, said they spoke on Monday with the 20-year-old, who is hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds. A police chase near 57th Street and Racine Avenue in Englewood ended with shots fired Sunday afternoon. “He said: ‘Mom, the police shot me!’ I said, ‘They shot you?’ He said, ‘Yeah, they shot me five times!’” Larticsa Allen said. “I said, ‘Latrell, did you shoot them?’ He said: ‘No mama, I did not shoot them. I was just running.’” Latricsa Allen said another one of her sons got into a fight with a younger male from the neighborhood at a local park. Latrell was there too, and someone flagged down police and started chasing those who ran, including Latrell. Latricsa Allen said her son was just trying to run away and was not armed. Police say that’s not true, and tweeted a picture of a gun recovered near the scene of the shooting. Late Monday, Latrell Allen was charged with attempted murder of police officers. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said while all the information is not in, the shooting by police appeared to be justified. |

Gloria Allred, the attorney representing the Baggett family, called Rojas' alleged behavior "mean, vile, base and contemptible." "The unexpected loss of Elizabeth has been devastating for this family, and learning that she and her remains have been so disrespected and violated has compounded the loss and inflicted horrific pain and suffering on her loved ones," Allred said in a statement. "So many women are sexually abused during their lifetime, and now we learn that some are even sexually victimized after their deaths." Baggett was 34 at the time of her death and had one son, according to an online obituary. Rojas remains employed by the Los Angeles Police Department but is not on active duty, a spokesman said. His lawyer, Robert Ernenwein, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Baggett's family filed the lawsuit against the city, Rojas and several unnamed parties. They are seeking unspecified damages and a jury trial. Her manner of death was ruled an accidental overdose. |

N.Y. — One woman was killed and
another was injured Friday in a
shooting at a Binghamton-area
apartment complex. The double shooting
happened shortly after midnight in
Conklin, about 15 minutes southeast of
Binghamton.The New York State Police
rushed to the 1205 Conklin Road
apartment complex around 12:20 a.m.
after a caller reported a shooting.
When troopers arrived, they found two
women who had been shot in the
parking lot.
Alison I. Salisbury, of
Binghamton, was pronounced dead
at the scene, troopers said. She was
38 years old.Shannon E. Brooks, 42, of Conklin, had been shot in the hand. She was treated at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City and released, troopers said. The suspect — Lance R. Johnson, 45, of Binghamton — fled after the shooting, troopers said. He was arrested after a traffic stop in Binghamton. Ann Arbor police worked with the Michigan State Police crime lab to process evidence and quickly identified a suspect. Police said the victim and Lynn live in the same residential complex. Police took a search warrant to Lynn’s residence on Aug. 5, but he was not there. Two days later, on Aug. 7, police learned of his location and took him into custody at a Belleville residence. |

Damion Whittley and two others were arrested this weekend and charged with the murder of Mississippi Highway Patrol Lieutenant Troy Morris. Whittley is currently being held in Louisiana awaiting extradition to Mississippi. Authorities said Lt. Morris was driving a mail truck for the postal service early Friday morning when he got a flat tire. Between a radio transmission asking for assistance and when that assistance arrived, Lt. Morris was shot dead as he sat in his truck on the side of U.S. 61 in Jefferson County. The three men charged with Morris’ murder are 24-year-old Treyon Washington, 17-year-old Cdarrius Norman, and 25-year-old Damion Whittley. Whittley’s mother said her son has a history of mental health problems and a low IQ. |

has been arrested in connection with a
double homicide that occurred just
after midnight Thursday in
Breckinridge County, Kentucky. Montez D. Johnson, 28, was taken into custody Thursday at an apartment complex on Ledgewood Parkway, not far from Manslick Road and Iroquois Park, according to a news release from Kentucky State Police. Johnson has been charged with the murder of Steven R. Gann, 45, and Jacob R. Loeffler, 26. Breckinridge County Coroner Tim Bandy said Gann and Loeffler were roommates and were found shot and killed early Thursday morning in a trailer on Blackberry Circle Lane, just off state Route 1073 in Garfield. KSP said the men had been shot "multiple times." The Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office is scheduled to conduct autopsies on the victims Friday, according to KSP. The Louisville Metro Police Department's SWAT team helped KSP's Special Response Team take Johnson into custody at the apartment complex "without further incident," state police said. Prosecutor Robert W. Russell announced
Wednesday charges in connection to the
murder of Maliyah
Lakey who was killed August 1 in
Warrensburg. 25-year-old Evan R. Lanigan of Warrensburg and 27-year-old Christian J. Harrison of Warrensburg were charged in connection to the shooting. On August 1, at 12:09 a.m., officers were called to the 400 block of East Grover Street to investigate a shooting. When the officers arrived, they discovered three shooting victims, a 20-year-old male, a 17-year-old female and Lakey. Lakey was pronounced dead at the scene and the other victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries. Through investigation, it was determined that Lanigan and another male were engaged in a fight in the kitchen of the home when Lanigan produced a gun and pointed it at the head of the male. Lanigan pulled the trigger but the gun did not go off. This fight caused the people in the home to immediately run out of the home where Lanigan and Harrison began discharging firearms. the death of a local woman.David Earl Bond Jr., 40, was being held without bond Friday in the Delaware County jail on Friday. He is also preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement, possession of meth and driving while suspended. The murder charge stems from the Monday death of 36-year-old Ashley Marie Bennett. The slaying took place in the victim's apartment in the 600 block of South Council Street. Chief Deputy Prosecutor Zach Craig on Friday said authorities believe Bennett was fatally strangled. An autopsy, conducted Tuesday at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, determined she had "two broken bones in her airway that would have proved fatal," according to an affidavit. Her body also had multiple injuries that suggested she had been beaten, including blunt force trauma to her head, cuts and other facial injuries, black eyes, bruises "throughout her body" and a displaced tooth. Investigators said they found blood throughout the apartment. A witness said when she encountered Bond at the apartment on Monday afternoon, he was wearing "a white wife-beater" with blood on it. Amy Kesler, a Muncie police sergeant, said Bond had accused Bennett and others of stealing a bank card from him. Bennett's mother, Lori Craft, on Friday expressed frustration Bond had been free despite a lengthy criminal record and several charges already pending in local courts. "The court system's got to step up and start doing its job," she said. Craft expressed appreciation for the city police detectives whose work led to Thursday's arrest. She said her daughter and Bond had engaged in an on-again, off-again relationship. Ashley Bennett was the mother of a daughter. Bond has been convicted of criminal confinement, dealing in cocaine, domestic battery (twice), leaving the scene of an accident, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, resisting law enforcement (four times) and robbery. His family said he came to the U.S. in the hopes of getting an education. On Friday, he faced a judge. “These are very serious charges,” Judge Mindy S. Glazer told Lopez. The judge told Lopez that there was probable cause to charge him with for four counts of pre-meditated murder on a law enforcement officer. She set no bond for Lopez. His arraignment is expected to be held in the next 21 days. Zabaleta, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, said the shooting occurred at about 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday near the intersection of Evergreen Street and Homestead Avenue in West Perrine. Detectives were conducting an investigation there when a man approached the officers, pulled out a firearm and began shooting at the officers, police say. According to the arrest form, Lopez “pulled a firearm from his front waist band and began to discharge the firearm.” Investigators said he shot at one of the officers who was sitting in an unmarked vehicle and then got into an exchange of gunfire with other officers. A picture of Lopez was presented to the four victims who were fired at and all positively identified Lopez as the shooter. None of the officers were injured during the incident, but three unmarked police vehicles were hit with bullets. |

to stop him early Friday in Chatham on
the South Side.Demetrius Williams is charged with one felony count of attempted first-degree murder, Chicago police said. Officers saw him running from a store about 2:20 a.m. in the 700 block of East 83rd Street and began to pursue him, police said. During the pursuit, he fired shots at a squad car, and officers returned gunfire. No one was hurt, and Williams was taken into custody a short time later, police said. He is due in bond court Saturday. |

arrested the suspect wanted in an
apparent random assault on an elderly
man last week. Police said that the
suspect, identified as 32-year-old
Alex Solomon, was taken into
custody without incident Thursday
morning. According to LVMPD,
information from the community was
vital in the arrest. No other details
were immediately available. The
initial incident occurred on July 30
outside an Albertson's near Flamingo
Avenue and Maryland Parkway.The victim, a disabled 77-year-old man, was walking on the sidewalk when the suspect walking the other way punched him and fled. |

in Killeen were used to make purchases
or obtain cash.Glenda Guidry, 48, of Killeen, is wanted in connection with several thefts of mail from mailboxes. She’s wanted for forgery and fraudulent use of identifying information. “Joseph Barnett, 50, also from Killeen, is a known associate of Guidry and cashed one of the stolen checks,” police said in a press release Friday. He’s wanted for fraudulent use of identifying information, police said. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-TIPS. |

COUNTY, Fla. — A 19-year-old caretaker
was arrested after officials say he
physically abused an
88-year-old man.The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said on Wednesday, August 5, Jonah Delgado, 19, was the on-duty caretaker for the victim, an 88-year-old man who required full-time care for basic needs. Home surveillance video shows Delgado slapping the victim's face and yelling at him. Delgado was also seen placing the victim in a wheelchair where he hit the victim multiple times in the face, head and stomach, officials say. “You can see this 19-year-old who we have arrested, forcefully place the father in a wheelchair, and then several times, begin slapping the 88-year-old who is unable to defend himself in any way, shape or form," said Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister. Later, Delgado pushed the victim into a bed and punched him in the stomach three times, officials said. Detectives worked quickly to obtain an arrest warrant, and with the assistance of the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, Delgado was arrested on Wednesday around midnight. "Despicable, deplorable, indefensible," said Sheriff Chronister. Chronister said the elderly man's son hired Delgado to provide the at-home care services. The elderly man used to live in an assisted living facility but his son brought him home in March amid coronavirus concerns. |

9-year-old boy may
have additional victims due to his
position.According to Houston police, Jose Abel Mena, 60, turned himself in last month after detectives confronted him about allegations by the boy and his family. Mena, who police say is the president and pastor of Pueblo de Dios, a local church group that holds services four times a week, is accused of assaulting the boy since January 2019 and as recent as this past April. Shortly after the alleged April assault, the boy's family contacted HPD. Police said Mena is an acquaintance to family members, and that the multiple alleged assaults happened at his north Houston home in the 9600 block of Fulton Street. After several months of investigating, detectives spoke with Mena about the allegations before admitting to them and eventually surrendering. Police are now looking into whether anyone else may have been a victim. They urge anyone who has had contact with Mena or has information on other possible victims to contact the Children's Assessment Center at 713-830-3259. |

The K-8 academy, which counts Tom Brady’s son as a student and the late John F. Kennedy Jr. as a grad, catered to the well-to-do. Filiberti’s dad was well-known concert promoter Raymond Filiberti, whose clients included Judy Garland. Then life “went sideways,” said Filiberti, now 60. His homeroom teacher, Rey Buono, was the first to abuse him, Filiberti claims in a Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit filed against the school under New York’s Child Victims Act, which opened a legal window to adjudicate old sex-abuse claims. Buono, 74, who is facing child sex abuse charges in Massachusetts, is free on $50,000 bail. A lawyer for Buono did not respond to questions from The Post. Then Filiberti met guitar teacher Chuck Jones — who allegedly introduced the boy to drugs, repeatedly sexually abused him while he was too high to move and eventually had him peddling pot, hash and other drugs on his behalf, according to court papers. Saturday.Police in Virginia say that Bouaichi, a rape suspect released from jail in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, went on to kill the woman who had accused him. The Washington Post reports that Bouaichi was tracked down by authorities on Wednesday. But he shot himself and was in grave condition on Thursday. Bouaichi was indicted last year on charges that included rape, strangulation and abduction. He was jailed without bond in Alexandria. The woman testified against him in Alexandria District Court in December. When the pandemic hit, Bouaichi’s lawyers argued that he should be freed awaiting trial because the virus endangered both inmates and their attorneys. He was released on $25,000 bond over the objections of a prosecutor. |
