Thirty-one-year-old Joshua Dow was charged Monday with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, and interference with a dead body while concealing evidence. According to charges, Dow, who has a 2-year-old daughter with Jensen, went with her parents to the police station when they filed a missing persons report on Nov. 21. After Jensen's parents left, Dow returned to the station and told police that he and Jensen had recently argued because he was seeing someone else. On Nov. 22, Dow's brother told police that Jensen was dead and that he had assisted Dow in moving her body, according to charges. He told police that Dow put a gun to his head and said he would kill him if he didn't help. He said they took her body to a warehouse in Minneapolis. Dow's brother took police to the warehouse, but was surprised to see the closet where they had put Jensen's body was empty. However, officers "smelled what their experience led them to believe was decomposing flesh," according to court documents. A witness told authorities he had seen Dow at the warehouse on Nov. 22, washing off tarps and putting boxes on a cart. When Dow was arrested, he told officers that Jensen had killed herself in front of him and he panicked. According to court documents, Dow told another witness that he had dismembered Jensen after she died and disposed of her body. He also admitted to police that he had disposed of her body, but did not disclose a location. - (Black-on-white)

Stunned son struggles with murder of his (White) mother by a (black) teen
Albert Henry Jones IIIDonna Lynne DavisWilson, N.C. — David Franzwa is struggling to understand how his mother, 55-year-old Donna Lynne Davis, ended up unconscious in a Wilson intersection Saturday night. Police charged Albert Henry Jones III, 16, of 1102 Rountree Ave. with her murder, but did not say anything about how she died or what connection she might have had with her killer. Franzwa heard the sirens Saturday night just before 10:00 as they whizzed by his home. He had no idea they were on the way to his mother, who had been attacked as she walked her dog and lay dying in the intersection of Vance Street and Maplewood Drive just blocks away. Police found the dog, Tricksie, sitting beside Davis' unconscious body. "She walks that street every day to walk her little dog, and nobody's ever bothered her until now," Franzwa said. "I don’t understand why a kid would do that to someone." According to police, EMS workers tried to revive Davis, but their attempts were unsuccessful. "My heart sank when I found out it was murder," Franzwa said. "I'd have to say it's the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life, identify my mother's body." - (Black-on-white)

After More Than 7 Years, Convicted Killer to Face Trial in Murder of Aspiring Teacher in Philadelphia
Marcellus Jones Beau ZabelTerry Zabel, left, and Lana ZamoraThe murder trial for a man already serving a life sentence in one murder case will begin Monday. Convicted killer Marcellus Jones is accused of killing Beau Zabel, an aspiring teacher who authorities say was gunned down for his iPod a month after moving to Philadelphia in 2008. Jones apparently wanted Zabel's iPod, police said. The 36-year-old is already in prison, serving time for the murder of another man, Tyreek Taylor. Prosecutors have said they believed Jones murdered the 20-year-old to keep him from talking to police about the man's role in Zabel's death -- allegedly as a getaway driver. Jones is currently serving a life sentence for Taylor's death. Zabel, who was from Minnesota, was studying at Drexel University at the time of his murder and planned to teach in the public school system. He had just gotten off work at the Starbucks at 4th and South Streets when he was robbed and shot. - (Black-on-white)

Suspect Allegedly Stood Over Pastor's Pregnant Wife and 'Watched Her Bleed' After Shooting Her in the Head: Affidavit
Larry Jo Taylor, JrAmanda BlackburnA probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE states that 18-year-old Larry Jo Taylor, Jr. – one of the two men charged with killing Amanda Blackburn, the pregnant wife of an Indianapolis pastor – allegedly stood over his victim after he shot her in the head and "watched her bleed." The affidavit further states that Taylor used his gun to strike the 28-year-old mother in the mouth during the Nov. 10 home invasion. In fact, the blow was so powerful, it allegedly knocked one of the teeth from her jaw. Taylor was formally charged with Blackburn's murder on Monday along with an accomplice, 21-year-old Jalen Watson. According to the affidavit, Taylor and Watson entered the Blackburn home through the front door, which was unlocked. Once inside, "Taylor stated [Amanda Blackburn] charged at him and he shot her somewhere in the upper body." Taylor fired his gun because he didn't want Blackburn scratching him, reads the affidavit. In describing the crime, Taylor also allegedly told his accomplices and associates that he "leaned over her body and shot her in the back of the head. He leaned further, looked at her face, and watched her bleed." Blackburn was shot three times, the affidavit claims: in the head, upper back and left arm. Amanda's husband, pastor Davey Blackburn, returned from the gym to find her on the living room floor, face down in a pool of her own blood. Blackburn was found naked, with her underwear bunched up and left at her side, the affidavit reads. - (Black-on-white)

Jessica Lane Chambers and friendSix months ago, a teenager was burned alive in a tiny Mississippi town. Police say they still don’t know who killed her or why, leaving the mystery in the hands of amateur online sleuths who may be doing more harm than good. When does a private tragedy become a public pastime? The stranger who wrote to Lisa Daugherty had a simple question. Were the grisly details she had read about the death of Lisa’s daughter, Jessica Chambers, true? If they were, it might help solve Jessica’s murder, she explained to Lisa in a Facebook message: “She was so burnt, her fingers were gone, her skin was crisp and falling off, her tongue was gone and she died alone wandering for help which arrived too late.” (more...

Michael A. JonesKANSAS CITY, KS - A gruesome investigation in KCK includes sickening suspicions that a father fed his 7-year-old son to pigs after beating him to death, a source close to the case says. Michael A. Jones, 44, is in the Wyandotte County Jail being held on an enormously high bond of $10 million. The charges are for aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery and child abuse, but the bond is higher than for most murders. The Piper-area home that Jones and his 29-year-old wife, Heather Jones, lived in is valued at more than $225,000. But the backyard is littered with junk, as well as toys for their children. Two women who often cared for the kids say the conditions inside were deplorable. "Their house was horrible," said one woman who asked for anonymity. "Their house was just filthy. The kids lived in filth. Trash everywhere. Dried food all over the house.” The women say eight children, ranging from ages 1 to 11, lived inside the home in the 5200 block of N. 99th Street. Police came to the home Wednesday morning on a report of Michael Jones attacking his wife and firing a gun at her. As the investigation progressed, someone told them to check for the decomposed body of a missing 7-year-old boy. By the next day, they were searching a barn on the property where they discovered human remains.

Austin Wycliffe ThomasAustin Wycliffe Thomas is seen in a 1987 photoToronto police have made an arrest in a 25-year-old sex assault investigation, the second cold case this week that police say was solved by advances in DNA and fingerprint technology. The victim, who was 44 at the time of the assault, was “very happy” to hear the news, Det. Ali Ansari said at a news conference on Thursday. Toronto police say that around 11:50 p.m. on July 27, 1990, a woman was sleeping in a ground floor apartment near Millwood Road and Overlea Boulevard. A man entered through her open window, choked her, and threatened to hurt her further if she did not comply. He sexually assaulted her and then fled. “Physical evidence was located from the scene and from the woman,” Ansari said, but police would have to wait 10 years before the case progressed any further. Police issued a Canada-wide warrant for Austin Wycliffe Thomas in July of 2014, who was by then living in the UK. The extradition process began and Thomas was returned to Canada on Tuesday. - (Canada)

Lamaree E. Wilson-Neuleib Zachary Michael PhillipsLoud sobs rang out in a packed Rock Island County courtroom Wednesday as a Moline teen was sentenced to 60 years in prison for fatally shooting a man and seriously injuring another man. Lamaree E. Wilson-Neuleib, 17, dressed in dress shirt and tie, apologized for the May 20 fatal shooting of Zachary M. Phillips, 18, and wounding of Erik Roberson, 20. “I know a lot of y’all hate me,” he said. “I’m sorry for all this.” During an emotional, two-hour sentencing hearing, Judge F. Michael Meersman sentenced Wilson-Neuleib to 50 years on one count of first-degree murder and 10 years on a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm. He must serve 100 percent of the sentence on the murder charge and 85 percent of the sentence on the battery charge, for a total of 58 ½ years. He will be 75 when he is released. Despite the teen’s “chaotic” childhood and history of mental health and substance abuse, Meersman said there was no excuse for what happened the day of the shooting. Wilson-Neuleib apparently had gone to buy marijuana from Roberson that day. - (Black-on-white)
