The Austin Police Department released body camera footage showing an exchange of gunfire with a suspect who was allegedly displaying a gun in a "threatening manner" and fired shots at officers on Oct. 23.
The suspect, 42-year-old Emeka Onyeabo Williams, was struck multiple times as officers returned fire and is in stable condition. He's facing charges of attempted capital murder, deadly conduct, and recklessly discharging a firearm. The incident began around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 when police received a 911 call about a man displaying a gun at an apartment complex in North Austin. Officers responded to the area and quickly located Williams inside the front patio of a nearby restaurant. Body camera footage released on Friday shows Williams on the patio with a handgun in front of him after he was struck multiple times by gunfire. Williams, who has previous arrests for assault causing bodily injury and misdemeanor marijuana possession, was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona’s clemency board unanimously declined on Thursday to recommend that the governor commute a man’s death sentence to life in prison, keeping the inmate’s planned execution on track for his conviction in two 1980 killings. The decision by the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency marks one of the last steps before Murray Hooper’s scheduled Nov. 16 execution for the slayings of William ’Pat" Redmond and his mother-in-law, Helen Phelps. Board members rejected Hooper’s claims that he was innocent and that there wasn’t credible evidence to support his convictions. "There is no doubt as to Mr. Hooper’s guilt," said Mina Mendez, who chairs the board that advises Gov. Doug Ducey. Board member Louis Quinonez said he didn’t think Hooper’s sentence was excessive based on the nature of the killings. "I find Mr. Hooper’s convictions to be lawful and authentic," Quinonez said. Hooper is scheduled to receive a lethal injection at the state prison in Florence, Arizona. Authorities said Redmond and Phelps were killed after Hooper and two other men forced their way into Redmond’s home on Dec. 31, 1980. Redmond’s wife, Marilyn, was shot in the head but survived and testified against Hooper. 
Two other men, William Bracy and Edward McCall, were convicted in the killings but died before their death sentences could be carried out.
Authorities say Robert Cruz, who was alleged to have had ties to organized crime, hired Hooper, Bracy and McCall to kill Pat Redmond, who co-owned a printing business. They said Cruz wanted to take over the business and was unhappy that Redmond had rejected his offers to enter into several printing contracts with Las Vegas hotels, according to court records. In 1995, Cruz was acquitted of murder charges in both deaths.

A Florida man fatally shot his girlfriend and three of her relatives — including a 4-year-old girl — after an argument early Friday, police said.

Deputies found the bodies of a 49-year-old woman, two of her adult daughters – 28 and 29 – and her 4-year-old granddaughter. All had fatal gunshot wounds to the head. There is no shortage of challengers seeking the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, with 23 candidates having announced so far. However, with former vice president Joe Biden finally throwing his hat into the ring, more moderate Democratic voters have begun to jump on the Biden bandwagon, perhaps without giving him much consideration. Though it’s still early to be tracking the polls, Biden is running away at amazing speed in key primary states like South Carolina, with more than triple the support of his next competitor. One of the main reasons Biden is doing so well is that, unlike many of the other candidates, he doesn’t advocate socialist policies (talk about a low standard). Sure, it’s promising that Biden, supposedly a centrist, doesn’t support the Green New Deal or Medicare-for-All. But that’s no reason to forget all the other questionable and downright dangerous decisions he’s made—and none more so than on matters of foreign policy. ...................... (A St. Cloud man is accused of killing his coworker earlier this week after she repeatedly rejected his personal advances.
Michael Jordan Carpenter, 36, is charged with second-degree murder, which is defined by intent but not premeditation, in the death of 28-year-old Nicole Michelle Hammond. Authorities found Hammond outside of a business on the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue Northeast shortly before 7 a.m. Monday. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses told police they’d seen Carpenter walk to the south end of the business’s parking lot before they heard a gunshot, court documents say. They add that Carpenter ran to his car and drove away after the gunshot. According to a criminal complaint, investigators found an argument over text messages between Hammond and Carpenter the night before the shooting, with Hammond stating that she didn’t want to be touched or manipulated by Carpenter and she didn’t want him to make things uncomfortable at work. Other coworkers told police that Carpenter had made repeated advances toward Hammond over the past month, but his advances were rejected. As police spoke with the coworkers, officers learned Carpenter had called and was talking to another coworker. Officers then learned Carpenter’s location and arrested him. Inside Carpenter’s vehicle, officers found a 9 mm pistol with a loaded magazine. The complaint states the style and brand of the bullets matched the shell found outside the business. When talking to police, Carpenter admitted he didn’t sleep well the night before because the text argument with Hammond upset him. He also made several contradictory statements but didn’t admit to shooting Hammond, according to the documents. Nicole Michelle Hammond, age 28 - (gun memorial) Officers spoke with several people at the scene at Dubow Textile. Hammond's phone revealed numerous text messages between her and Carpenter from the previous night indicating the she did not want to be touched or manipulated by Carpenter. In speaking with several of Carpenter's co-workers, officers learned Carpenter made numerous advances towards Hammond over the past month, according to court documents. (Black) Former Kansas City church elder sentenced in wife's 2018 murder
OLATHE, Kan. - A Johnson County judge sentenced an Overland Park man, and a former church elder, to life in prison for the murder of his wife.
In August, a jury found Robert Lee Harris guilty of first-degree premeditated murder in the death of Tanisha Harris.
On Nov. 3, a judge sentenced Harris to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 50 years. Overland Park police responded to the couple's apartment on Jan. 9, 2018, to investigate an argument between the couple. The department said a few hours after officers left the apartment, Harris called to report his wife missing. Court documents show Harris eventually told investigators he played a role in her disappearance. Police found Tanisha Harris' body nearly 20 miles away in Raymore, Missouri, around 2:17 a.m. Jan. 11, 2018, near 163rd and Kentucky. Her death was eventually ruled a homicide. Harris was an elder at Repairers of The Breach Christian Center in south Kansas City. |

(CNN) — A man suspected of wounding two police officers in a shooting in Newark, New Jersey, is in police custody, two law enforcement sources with knowledge of the investigation said Wednesday.
Kendall Howard, 30, is accused of shooting two Newark police officers as they tried to question him near an apartment building in the city Tuesday afternoon, authorities had said. The shooting led to an hourslong police search of that building before they determined that night Howard was no longer there. Details about Howard’s detention weren’t immediately available. A news conference will be held Wednesday afternoon, the Essex County prosecutor’s office said. One of the officers was shot in a leg and has a small fracture, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said Tuesday. The other officer was shot in his shoulder and the bullet grazed his neck, Baraka said. Both were in stable condition, he said. |

HARTFORD, Conn. — A Connecticut man who was linked to the sexual assaults of four women in 1984 by information on a genealogy database was convicted Wednesday of all eight kidnapping charges against him.
A state jury in Hartford took less than an hour of deliberations to unanimously convict Michael Sharpe after a five-day trial. He faces 25 to 100 years in prison when he is sentenced on Jan. 9. Sharpe, 71, who had been free on a promise to appear in court, was detained after the verdicts because a judge set a new bond at $2.5 million. At least two of the victims were in the courtroom and wept after the verdicts were announced, The Hartford Courant reported. Sharpe’s public defender, Dana Sanetti, said in her closing argument Tuesday that the only evidence connecting Sharpe to the attacks was his DNA, which was only “a piece of the puzzle,” Hearst Connecticut Media reported. Prosecutors said he broke into the women’s homes in four different towns and sexually assaulted them at gunpoint in June and July of 1984. Investigators found DNA evidence at the homes, but no matches could be found at the time and the cases went cold. Police said they were able to identify Sharpe as a suspect in 2020 because his relatives had given DNA samples to the GEDmatch website. DNA samples taken from trash outside Sharpe’s home, and later from his cheeks, matched the DNA found at the crime scenes, officials said. Sharpe could not be charged with sexual assault because the statute of limitations expired, but authorities were able to file kidnapping charges, which have no such time limit. |

A homeless man wanted for two sex crimes — and who has at least 25 prior busts — was arrested in connection with the rape of a jogger in the West Village on Thursday and charged in all three cases, police and law-enforcement sources said.
Carl Phanor, 29, was busted at the Port Authority bus station several hours after the assault, which took place around 5:30 a.m. at Pier 45, the sources said. Police say he grabbed a 43-year-old woman from behind as she ran in Hudson River Park, choked her and sexually assaulted her before robbing her and, according to a witness who called 911, leaving her shoeless and with blood running from her face and elbows. He was charged with rape, grand larceny, predatory sexual assault and invalid use of a credit card. An investigation is underway after a driver "recklessly" went through a barricaded area during a Halloween event in Omaha, Nebraska, and was shot by an officer, police said.
The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Monday in a residential area of Omaha where the street had been closed off to cars for trick-or-treating. Officers who were handing out candy at the event were alerted that someone was "driving recklessly" down the boulevard, the Omaha Police Department said in a press release. The driver was traveling in the wrong direction with no headlights on, police said. One of the officers ran in front of the car and "gave multiple loud verbal commands to the driver and held out his hand gesturing for the driver to stop the vehicle," police said. When the driver continued to move toward the officer, the officer fired multiple times, striking him, before the car stopped, police said. Police did not specify how many times the driver was hit. Video obtained by ABC Omaha affiliate KETV shows a car slowing down before accelerating down the street. In another video obtained by KETV, several shots can be heard as a crowd gathered on lawns started to run. Police identified the driver as 31-year-old Dontavius Levering. He received medical attention at the scene and was transported to a local hospital in serious condition, police said. He is expected to survive his injuries, police said Tuesday. Police say one of the men and the woman were transported by AMR to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. The second male, 19-year-old, Lawrence Hart was declared dead at the scene. A registered sex offender is accused of sexually assaulting multiple women in Chicago while on bail this year, according to a local report. David Buckner, 28, was charged Thursday with misdemeanor battery for grabbing and groping an 18-year-old woman on the Loyola University campus in Chicago a day earlier, CWB Chicago reported. In 2017, Buckner told police that he "probably" molested about 75 women on the CTA within two months, the Chicago Tribune reported at the time. He was charged with felonies for assaulting four women that year. Buckner was eventually found not guilty in the 2017 cases by reason of insanity and order to register as a sex offender, CWB Chicago reported. Prior to the alleged assault on the Loyola campus, Buckner was on bail after having been arrested twice for allegedly assaulting four other women within a matter of months. The first reported case happened in June. Two women accused him of licking, squeezing and groping them on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office refused to file felony charges against Buckner related to that case, and he was released from jail on a charge of misdemeanor battery, the outlet reported. On Oct. 9, two more women accused Buckner of touching them inappropriately at the Roosevelt CTA station. He was again charged with misdemeanor battery and released, according to the outlet. A central Texas man was arrested this week and charged with over 20 counts of aggravated robbery for multiple incidents that took place in a 35-day period.
Members of the Austin Police Department’s Robbery Unit arrested Brian Degrate, 33, on Friday and charged him with 21 counts of aggravated robbery and one count of robbery by assault. Police said Degrate, a convicted felon and known robbery suspect, engaged in at least 16 robberies in North Austin, each of which targeted members of the Hispanic, non-English speaking community. The first incident took place on Sept. 14, and according to police Degrate and another suspect approached and pointed a gun at the victim before swinging a bat at the victim’s head. The two suspects then threatened to kill the victim, police said, and ran off with the victim’s wallet. Two days later, Degrate allegedly held a victim at gunpoint in an apartment complex parking lot and stole money from the victim’s wallet. In the same apartment complex on Sept. 19, Degrate hit a victim with a bat before taking the victim’s keys, car, and cell phone, police said. The car was found a short time later. Many of the incidents took place in the early morning hours, according to police, and Degrate is accused of using weapons like handguns, a machete, hammer, pepper spray, an electric stun gun, and his own fists to injury the victims before stealing their property. In some cases, Degrate worked alone, while in others he worked with at least two additional people. |

CHICAGO - A Chicago man was arrested for allegedly gunning down a 25-year-old woman on the city's South Side.
The shooting occurred in the 800 block of West 82nd Street in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
According to police, 45-year-old Eugene Arnold III was arrested on Wednesday after he fatally shot the female victim just hours earlier. Arnold was charged with first-degree murder. He's due in bond court on Saturday. |

A group of Indiana apartment residents beat up a would-be robber and kept him in custody using their own firearms until authorities could arrest him, police said.
Kokomo police reported that Marrell Tyler, 18, received multiple facial injuries when he broke into the Annex of Kokomo apartments on Thursday at 3:25 a.m. Police responded quickly but arrived to find Tyler beat up and held at gunpoint, thanks to the actions of three men who had been inside the first apartment he had entered. The men told police that Tyler had entered the apartment wearing a ski mask and pointing a gun at them. They jumped him, knocking away the gun and pinning him down. Tyler pulled a second gun that went off but did not injure anyone. One of the men grabbed his own gun and used it to subdue Tyler until police could arrive. Tyler and the residents received multiple facial injuries, but only Tyler required immediate medical attention. Police took him to the hospital before taking him to Howard County Criminal Justice Center for holding. |

A father is now behind bars after his child was injured in a shooting on Thursday afternoon, Atlanta police said.
Police say they arrived at a home on the 1500 block of Hardee Street in northeast Atlanta at around 2:30 p.m. and found a child injured after being shot in the hand.
The child was transported to the hospital. Police say the child was alert, conscious and breathing after the shooting. Quinton Gay, the child’s father, was arrested and charged with reckless conduct and second-degree cruelty to children. Gay was transported to DeKalb County Jail. A 5-year-old suffered a gunshot wound and was airlifted to a hospital in Gainesville before having surgery, and an 8-year-old who was in the same car had minor injuries from shattered glass, per the sheriff's office statement. Deputies stated that the child was in critical but stable condition upon their last check, according to the statement. |

Sheriff’s officials said deputies responded to a residence for a female child who was not breathing. The child was transported to a hospital, and despite life-saving measures, was pronounced deceased. The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations – Homicide Detail also responded and assumed the investigation. An investigator from the Coroner’s Office responded to the hospital and through investigation determined the child had numerous injuries indicative of child abuse. Detectives from the Homicide Detail interviewed the child’s father, 24-year-old Isaiah Rumph, and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Charity Staffieri, who were both arrested for assaulting the child, and causing death. Both suspects were booked in at the Central Detention Center and later transferred to the West Valley Detention Center where they remain on $500,000 bail. The child’s biological mother named Hannah Lucas organized a Gofundme account for her daughter Jazmine. In the account description Hanna said her daughter passed away suddenly and at that time were waiting for the cause of death. “She was 4 turning 5 in December. Jazmine was such an amazing young lady. She was so full of life, and could easily brighten up the room she walked in. We’re all shattered by this tragedy,” stated Hannah. Brannon Woodrow Cockerham, 40, was arrested Thursday and charged with school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under 19. Cockerham is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl at the school. According to the Sylacauga Police Department, Cockerham was first taken into custody Oct. 17. Jail logs indicate he was not placed in the Talladega County Jail until Oct. 27. He is being held on $50,000 bond. The charge of school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under 19 is a Class B that carries a prison sentence between two and 20 years. If convicted, Cockerham would be required to register as a sex offender. |

Navaeh-Ojore Timotyh-Carl Payton, 21, is wanted for rape in the first degree and burglary in the third degree. At approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Irondale dispatch received a call from a person stating they were assaulted in the 1800 block of Crestwood Boulevard. After an investigation, police identified the suspect in the case. Just over three hours later, an Irondale Police patrol unit made a traffic stop on the suspect's vehicle on Grants Mill Road near the I-20 East entrance ramp. The suspect fled the vehicle on foot and into a wooded area next to the interstate. Police began an extensive search with assistance from several surrounding agencies but the suspect was not located. At around 10:45 p.m. that night, officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress at a convenient store located in the 330 block of Crestwood Boulevard. After accessing surveillance video, officers determined the person who broke into the store was the same suspect that was being pursued for the violent assault. Alabama Police searching 'armed and dangerous' suspect 
IRONDALE, Ala. — The Irondale Police department continued its search Thursday morning for a suspect they are calling 'armed and dangerous'.
Officers were called to the 1800 block of Crestwood Boulevard on reports of an assault around lunch time Wednesday. The victim described the suspect as a black man in his early 20s, about 5' 10" tall and 170 pounds. She was also able to tell officers what vehicle the man was driving. A short time later officers found the vehicle and stopped the man on Grants Mill Road at I-20. After stopping the vehicle, the man ran away. |

Lt. Chris Hirsch with the Summerville Police Department says officers were called to the Hampton Inn around 9:13 p.m. for reports a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they located the gunshot victim on the sidewalk near the entrance of the hotel. Police say the victim had a California driver’s license. A witness gave police a description of the suspect and said he chased after him after the incident, authorities say. OAKLAND — The August killing of a beloved Chinatown dentist became even more shocking Friday: Hours after authorities announced the arrest of the woman’s 73-year-old companion for hiring her killer, the man died by suicide while in law enforcement custody.
Police said that the Aug. 21 killing of Lili Xu, 60 — thought by many at the time to be a robbery that ended in homicide — was allegedly arranged by the victim’s companion, Nelson Chia, 73, of Oakland, and carried out by Hasheem Bason, 33, who lives in Stockton, who fired the gun that killed Xu. On Friday afternoon, a law-enforcement source confirmed to the Bay Area News Group that Chia had died by suicide around 2 p.m. He was in a holding cell at Santa Rita Jail at the time. The killing, initially reported as being a robbery that turned deadly, drew intense attention both because of Xu’s prominence in the Oakland Chinatown community and due to fears of anti-Asian violence, stoked by earlier hate crimes in Oakland and other parts of the Bay Area. It’s leaving such a hole.” A prosecutor at Kolalou’s bond hearing Wednesday said that the pair had a contentious relationship that escalated into a screaming match the night of the murder. Police also previously confirmed that Walker had put an eviction notice on Kolalou’s door the day before the slaying. “That very well could possibly be what escalated this into the defendant becoming extremely angry and committing this horrific act,” Chicago Police Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan told ABC7 at the time. In addition to first-degree murder, Kolalou is charged with concealing a homicidal death and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She is being held without bail. A federal jury on Wednesday returned a guilty verdict on six of seven charges against a suspended Georgia sheriff accused of violating the constitutional rights of people in his custody by unnecessarily strapping them into restraint chairs.
Prosecutors said Victor Hill, who was suspended as Clayton County sheriff after his indictment last year, had detainees strapped into restraint chairs for hours even though they posed no threat and complied with deputies' instructions. The use of the chairs was unnecessary, was improperly used as punishment and caused pain and bodily injury in violation of the civil rights of seven men, prosecutors argued. Defense attorneys asserted that Hill used the restraint chair legally to maintain order at the jail and didn't overstep his lawful authority. Hill testified last week that he based his decisions to use the restraint chairs on indicators such as the way the men behaved before they arrived at the jail, including eluding police or assaulting women, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. |

Six people were killed, including 8-year-old Jackson Sparks, who was marching in the parade with his baseball team, and three members of the Dancing Grannies, a group of grandmothers that dances in parades. Dozens of other people were hurt, some severely. Brooks pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease this year but withdrew the plea before his trial began with no explanation. Days before the trial started, he dismissed his public defenders, electing to represent himself. District Attorney Susan Opper called to the stand police officers and paradegoers who testified they saw Brooks behind the wheel of the SUV. Brooks struggled to mount a defense, launching into meandering cross-examinations, refusing to recognize his own name or the court's jurisdiction over him and muttering under his breath that the trial wasn't fair. He got into such intense arguments with Judge Jennifer Dorow that several times during the lead-up to jury selection she moved him into another courtroom where he could watch the proceedings via video and she could mute his microphone when he became disruptive. Opper told jurors during her closing arguments Tuesday that Brooks' refusal to stop once he entered the parade route shows he intended to kill people. Dorow allowed Brooks back into the main courtroom to deliver his closing to jurors face to face. In a rambling, repetitive speech, he tried to raise doubts about whether the SUV's throttle malfunctioned and whether the driver simply panicked. Police say 10 people were shot in a fight. Two of them died, including Charlie Johnson, a University of St. Thomas student hit by a "stray" negro bullet. "This was a completely senseless act of violence, and I am thankful that justice has been done in this case," Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said. "To all of those impacted by this tragic incident, I hope that this verdict can start to bring you some closure." Sentencing was set for Monday, Dec. 12 at 1:30 p.m. Carroll had been awaiting trial on a separate shooting back in 2019 when he committed the 2021 shootings, that one outside a Pizza Luce. ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was arrested months after the fatal shooting of a woman who was found in a residential area near Holden Heights in August, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said Tasmine Shawaun Boatwright was arrested on Tuesday Deputies responded to the area of 42nd Street and Nashville Avenue on Aug. 27 where they found Loleta Young, 62. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. According to an affidavit, a witness told deputies Young had approached him in his yard and asked to borrow his phone to call her family in New York. The man was told by Young she just got into an argument at a nearby 7-Eleven, the sheriff’s office said. When the man turned his back to Young and continued working on his yard, the witness told deputies he heard two gunshots and saw Young on the ground, the affidavit shows. The witness saw the suspect, who was wearing all black clothing and a ski mask, near the edge of his property before the shooter ran off, deputies said. The sheriff’s office said K-9s were able to locate the clothing and mask, which was taken for DNA processing. The affidavit said an image of the mask was shown to the witness, who said he and his nephew gave that mask to a man known by the nickname “Taz.” Deputies said they were able to locate an apartment the suspect went to after the shooting and, after acquiring a search warrant, they were able to look in the residence on Sept. 1 where they found a gun that matched the casings at the shooting scene. PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Two Phoenix police officers are recovering after a Colorado Springs man reportedly opened fire while being taken into custody on Tuesday morning. Police say that just before 7 a.m., officers were called out to a complex near 16th Street and Morten Avenue, just north of Glendale Avenue, for reports of a fight.
When officers arrived, they began speaking to 23-year-old Damoin Obrian Walters and a woman. Police say an officer told Walters to take his hand out of his pocket multiple times, but he refused. A struggle broke out between the two, and the gun went off in Walters’ pocket. Court paperwork details that when Walters reportedly fired that first round, shrapnel reportedly hit an officer’s leg. That officer initially thought he was shot and the woman ran off into the kitchen fearing for her life. Investigators say the struggle continued as the officer tried to take Walters into custody. At one point, court papers allege that an officer feared for his life as it appeared that Walters was pointing the barrel of his gun at him. Walters then reportedly fired several more rounds during the fight. Court papers say that body warn-camera shows that an officer ultimately used a stun gun on Walters to arrest him. |

Michael J. Carpenter was charged with one felony count of second-degree murder in relation to the homicide of 28-year-old Nicole Michelle Hammond of St. Cloud. According to the complaint, police responded to a report of a gun shot at a textile business on the northeast side of St. Cloud just before 7 a.m. Monday. Police found Hammond lying in the parking lot near her car with a pool of blood around her head. Nearby were her keys and phone. Two witnesses, also employees of the textile business, told police they saw Carpenter in the parking lot. One witness saw Carpenter near his car, which had the front and rear driver's side doors ajar; the other witness said they saw Carpenter leave his vehicle, then heard a gun shot and saw Carpenter jog back to his car and drive away, court documents state. Investigators found multiple text messages between Hammond and Carpenter from the previous night where she said she "did not want to be touched by" Carpenter and told him to not make things uncomfortable at work, according to the complaint. Multiple employees told police Carpenter had made numerous advances toward Hammond in the past month, and she had repeatedly rebuffed them. Some also described Carpenter as having a "bad temper," the complaint states. Carpenter was arrested a few hours later at an apartment in Sauk Rapids. Investigators found a 9-mm pistol and loaded magazine in a case on the rear seat of Carpenter's car. The style and brand of bullets matched the shell casing at the scene, documents state. When talking to investigators, Carpenter said he walked toward Hammond's car but heard a gun shot and saw a lot of blood so he left, the complaint states. POTTSTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Investigators in Montgomery County are asking for the public's help to find a suspect wanted for two homicides. Deonte "Taz" Kelly is wanted in connection with the murders of Skyler Fox and Brandon Bacote-Byer in Pottstown earlier this week.

A rape victim in California has shared a harrowing image of her facial injuries after she was assaulted by a homeless man who had been released from jail just a few hours earlier.
Marissa Young, 44, of Torrance, was walking her dogs about 1 a.m. July 31 when she was attacked by Darrell Waters, 46, who was arrested days earlier on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of a dagger, CBS News reported, citing police. The homeless man was released on his own recognizance about 12 hours before the brutal assault, according to the report. “I was tackled from behind, I heard nothing,” Young told KTLA. “I didn’t have headphones in, I wasn’t looking at my phone, I was just walking straight forward to my destination.” She said the man pushed her to the ground and raped her. “This person punched me in the face, closed-fisted, 15 to 20 times at least,” she told the outlet. “My nose is broken in four different places and this bone was shattered here [she points to her upper cheek area]. You can still see a lot of swelling in my face.” Young told CBS News that she fought for her life for “probably three-quarters of the attack,” which lasted for almost 30 minutes. “It was a crime of opportunity, because I’m of small stature and my back was to him,” she told the network. Orlando Harris was the gunman who shot and killed a health teacher and 16-year-old student and wounded seven other teens at Central VPA High School in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 24, 2022, police say. He was shot and killed by police at the scene, they said.
Harris, 19, was named in a press conference by St. Louis police. He graduated from the school in 2021 and had no criminal history, they said. He did have a history of mental health issues, they said. Students jumped out of school windows and hid behind barricaded doors as the shooter made his way into the locked school and fired a barrage of gunshots. Sack said in a press conference that officers “arrived within minutes of the call going out” and immediately made entry into the school. He said the first call came in at 9:11 a.m., and officers arrived on scene by 9:15 a.m. The teacher who died was named as Jean Kirk Kuczka. Kenneth Miller, 32, was hit with a slew of charges for the trio of assaults on the Hudson River Greenway in upper Manhattan that happened on separate days within a 10-day span, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office said.
Miller allegedly first struck in the park on Sept. 14, by cornering a jogger with his moped, claiming he had a gun and demanding her cash, prosecutors said. When she refused, he allegedly groped her repeatedly and snatched iPod. Four days later, Miller allegedly groped another runner after riding up behind her on a similar vehicle. On Sept. 24, he allegedly grabbed a jogger by the hair and pulled a knife on her in the park, authorities said. He then allegedly dragged her to a stairwell in the park, smashed her head against a “hard surface,” blindfolded her and repeatedly sexually abused her, prosecutors said. “New Yorkers deserve to use our city’s many trails and parks without fear,” said District Attorney Alvin Bragg in a statement. BALTIMORE -- A Baltimore man has been charged in the shooting death of a man earlier this month, police said Monday.
Travis Avery Rogers, 35, is charged with first- and second-degree murder and firearms-related offenses. Officers responded the night of Oct. 15 to the 2600 block of Wilkens Avenue for a shooting, where they found a 53-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead. The victim was identified as Santos Munoz-Hernandez. Rogers was arrested on Oct. 21 at the 2000 block of Washington Boulevard, a short distance from the location of the shooting. |

A Georgia inmate who escaped for the third time last week has been captured walking down a Florida highway.
Anthony Moret, 67, was serving a life sentence for murder at the Valdosta Transitional Center when he escaped on Friday, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. The Florida Highway Patrol said they found him on Saturday morning walking down I-75 in Charlotte County. According to Ga. DOC records, Moret was convicted of a 1978 murder in Tattnall County, when he was just 23. Records show he was also convicted of a 1975 DeKalb County armed robbery. |

Sloss was found guilty of murder, abuse of corpse and being a persistent felony offender in the first degree. Police found Berry dead in the basement of a house in the Parkland neighborhood on Jan. 31, 2020. Sloss was arrested for his connection to her murder just six days after police found her body. An escaped murderer out of Georgia is back in custody after troopers found him walking along I-75 in Charlotte County, Florida.
Anthony Moret, 67, escaped from prison while he was serving a life sentence without parole for murder, the Florida Highway Patrol said on Twitter. Troopers spotted Moret around 6 a.m. Saturday, FOX 13 Tampa reports. A trooper learned of Moret's active warrant for escaping by running a wants and warrants check. |

‘Violent, savage’ BLACK connected to killings in West Palm Beach, Georgia, police say
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Police said Friday a “savage” man at the center of a violent crime spree in West Palm Beach earlier this month is also the suspect in a homicide and home invasion in Georgia.
The manhunt for Patrick Brockman, 43, ended on Oct. 3 when he was taken into custody at a home in the 5400 block of Eadie Place, and a Palm Beach County deputy was accidentally shot by a fellow deputy. "This is just a very violent, savage person that is now off the streets," Mike Jachles, a spokesman for the West Palm Beach Police Department, said Friday. Police released new information about the case, saying the investigation started after Brockman shot a woman in the face around 9:30 p.m. on Oct 2. inside an abandoned house in the 600 block of Douglas Avenue. "An eyewitness stated 'Patrick' unprovoked, stood up and shot the victim in the face before fleeing on foot," Brockman's arrest report stated. Less than two hours later, Brockman shot and killed a man just after 11 p.m. in the 1400 block of 9th Street, police said. |

ALBANY — A 20-year-old Albany man pleaded guilty Friday to a second-degree murder charge in the death of Chyna Forney, who was shot and killed in May 2021 on Essex Street, Albany County prosecutors said.
Jahmere Manning pleaded guilty to the charge before Judge Roger McDonough in Albany County Supreme Court, District Attorney David Soares' office said. Prosecutors said the plea satisfies the initial indictment, which also included another second-degree murder count, as well as charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. It also satisfies another open case in which Manning is charged with criminal weapon possession. Manning and co-defendant Alvin Foy are accused of firing 31 shots that May 3 afternoon in the direction of another group of people, causing the death of Forney, 18. Foy's case remains open. Forney, who was set to graduate from Albany Leadership Charter High School For Girls, was killed when a bullet struck her in the back. Two teenagers who were standing near Forney were nearly struck in the hail of bullets, police said at the time. |

(CBS DETROIT) - A 20-year-old man is charged in connection with the shooting death of a 17-year-old, who was found on interstate 94 in Macomb County.
Nathaniel Taylor, of Southfield, was arraigned Friday in the 40th District Court on second-degree murder and felony firearm. He was given a $2 million cash bond. If bond is posted, Taylor is ordered to wear a GPS tether and placed under house arrest. Police made an arrest earlier this week after the teen, who family members identified as 17-year-old mother Taya Land, was found on the freeway near Eight Mile Road in St. Clair Shores. Macomb County prosecutors say on Oct. 14, Taylor met with the teen that day after connecting through an app. Following an argument, Taylor allegedly pushed Land out of the car and shot her three times. |

Jason Henry Cochrane, 46, was sentenced Monday to eight years in prison, with all but the three years he has already served suspended, with three years of supervised probation, The Herald-Mail reported. Under an Alford plea, a defendant doesn’t admit guilt, but acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence for a conviction. As part of the plea deal entered in Washington County Circuit Court, other charges including second-degree rape and sexual abuse of a minor, were dismissed. A victim/witness coordinator told the judge that the boy’s mother was satisfied with the deal. Cochrane, who must register as a sex offender, may not have any contact with the victim or unsupervised contact with any minor. |

Volunteers with Texas EquuSearch searched the area of Pasadena Memorial Park and an area two to three miles from the park, as well as Jackson Hill Cemetery. HPD said Nadia was last seen at her father's apartment complex on South Richey Street on Sunday around 8 p.m. There was DNA evidence of a crime at the apartment and police said they were investigating the case as a homicide. Investigators said Lee was seen on camera near a dumpster for 20 minutes while pushing a stroller. “We know that Nadia’s last known location – based off the totality of the evidence we have -- was October 16th, this past Sunday at approximately 8 p.m. at 331 S. Torrance woman details horrifying rape by BLACK suspect released from jail hours before attack
ATorrance woman is detailing the harrowing details of her rape at the hands of a suspect who was released from jail just hours before assaulting her in hopes of raising awareness and reminding women to be alert.
Marissa Young was walking her dogs after work on July 31, at around 1 a.m. on Emerald Street in Torrance, when she was brutally attacked. "I certainly wasn't looking at my phone, inebriated, I didn't have any headphones in or anything when he came up behind me. He was just that quiet," she said. She was violently beaten and raped by Darrell Dean Waters, a 46-year-old homeless man, who was arrested days earlier on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of a dagger. He was released on his own recognizance about 12 hours before the attack. The attack, which lasted for nearly 30 minutes, left Young with missing teeth and a broken nose, eye socket and jaw. Somehow, she was able to fight him off long enough that he ran from the area. "Probably three-quarters of the attack I fought back, cause I was fighting for my life," she said. "It was a crime of opportunity, because I'm of small stature and my back was to him." Waters was arrested nearly 24 hours later, about two miles from the site of the attack, after receiving Young's police report. He was charged with one felony count each of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation and sexual penetration by use of force. |

IRMO, S.C. (WIS) - A suspect in an Irmo bank robbery was arrested in Texas Thursday. Investigators said Deveon Gibbs was taken into custody in Harris County, TX.
On Aug. 19 Gibbs and a female accomplice are alleged to have approached workers at the First Citizens Bank on Lake Murray Blvd. The workers were performing maintenance on an ATM. The woman sprayed both workers with pepper spray after they were told it was a robbery. The boyfriend of a pregnant woman found shot to death in a running car earlier this year has been arrested and charged with capital murder, according to the Houston Police Department.
Devin Marsalis Allen, 26, is accused of killing Amber Butler, 27. Butler on April 8 was found dead in the driver's seat of a Chevrolet Malibu stopped in traffic in the 3600 block of Willowbend. She died of a gunshot to the head, according to medical examiner records. Butler was nine months pregnant when she died. Her unborn child didn't survive, police said Police shortly after the shooting said they didn't believe Butler's death was the result of road rage or suicide. No suspects had been publicly named since her death. Allen was arrested on Wednesday, police said. No bond had been set on the capital murder charge as of Thursday night. Allen was arrested in August and charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, according to Harris County District Court records. In that case, Allen and two other people were accused of stealing checks from a mailbox and then altering the checks to takes $39,600 from a Houston man. He was released on $50,000 bond for that felony charge in September. He also has bonds from a misdemeanor gun charge from February -- he was accused of having an unholstered handgun in plain view in his car -- and a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge in September. |

A 17-month-old girl died Tuesday after being severely burned with hot water by her mother’s boyfriend and repeatedly assaulted by him at their Maplewood apartment, according to a murder charge.
Ramsey County prosecutors on Thursday charged Terrance Valdez Leslie, 26, with second-degree murder in connection with the death of the girl, named Jamari. Leslie, who was arrested Tuesday, remains jailed in lieu of $2 million bail and is scheduled to make his first appearance on the charge Friday in Ramsey County District Court. The girl’s 18-year-old mother was also booked into jail on the murder charge Tuesday, but later released after investigators found she had no direct involvement in her child’s death, Maplewood Lt. Joe Steiner said Thursday. An autopsy by the Ramsey County medical examiner’s office showed Jamari had burns to her face, shoulder, chest and right forearm, bleeding in the brain and arm fractures. Other injuries were consistent with sexual assault. “In my 22 years of law enforcement experience, I’ve never investigated a crime more disturbing or heinous than this murder,” Steiner said at a news conference. Police say Leslie took cell-phone videos of some of the assaults before Jamari was severely burned. “Words cannot fully capture my feelings about what happened to this innocent and helpless young child,” Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said in a Thursday statement. “But know this — we will unrelentingly seek justice for her.” |

A31-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder for allegedly fatally shooting a woman who beat him at a pick-up basketball game, Dallas police announced on Thursday.
Cameron Hogg was taken into custody on Thursday morning, according to the Dallas police, after a warrant was issued for his arrest on Oct. 11. On Oct. 3, first responders found 21-year-old Asia Womack, 21, on a sidewalk in South Dallas with multiple gunshot wounds. She died later that evening in a local hospital. After the incident, Womack’s family told Fox News 4 that they believed that she’d recently played a pickup game of basketball at the T.G. Terry Park against the man alleged to have shot her. The family said that Womack had won the game, and then the shooter, who they say knew her, took his children and brother home before coming back to the park and shooting Womack five times as she was walking home. "This was supposed to be a friend of Asia’s. She's eaten with the man," Andrea Womack, Womack’s mother, told Fox News 4. "She’s fed him, and he turned on her and killed her in a vicious way." |

Then there was Sophia’s own account: She said her mother and her mom’s boyfriend hit her with a belt buckle, according to her aunt, Emerald Johnson, who overheard Sophia speaking with child welfare caseworkers. She said the young girl told social workers that her mom choked her and covered her mouth to quiet her screams. Child Protective Services also investigated an allegation that her mother’s boyfriend had sexually abused Sophia, according to a police interview with the girl’s mother, Samantha Johnson. Johnson’s boyfriend denied the allegation, she told detectives, adding that she didn’t believe Sophia when she told her the man had put his penis in her mouth. Relatives say their repeated cries for help went unanswered. |

A "man" charged with 15 felonies who faced up to life in prison pleaded guilty Tuesday to raping three women in Buffalo in 2017 when he was 17.
As part of the plea, State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller agreed to sentence Daquawn D. Mike to 20 years in prison, with 20 years of post-release supervision to follow. Mike, who was living in Niagara Falls at the time of the rapes, did not know any of the victims in the three attacks, which were "believed to be random," prosecutors previously said. Mike, now 22, pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree rape and one count of criminal possession of weapon. Had he been found guilty of just those four counts at trial, he could have faced up to 90 years in prison. In the courtroom, he answered the judge's questions with mostly one-word answers, speaking so quietly that at one point the judge asked him to raise his voice and speak into the microphone. |

Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Pinkey Carr, elected to the bench in 2011, "also was repeatedly dishonest, treated court staff and litigants disrespectfully, abused her power to issue arrest warrants and find individuals in contempt of court," according to statement from the Ohio court system. In March 2021, Carr was charged with five counts of judicial misconduct. Carr violated rules governing the appropriate dress, order, and decorum for courtrooms. "Her bench was littered with dolls, cups, novelty items, and junk," according to the Ohio Supreme Court. "She presided over her courtroom wearing tank tops, T-shirts – some with images or slogans, spandex shorts, and sneakers. She discussed with her staff and defendants a television show called "P-Valley" about a fictional Mississippi strip club." |

HISPANIC Ride-share driver John Pastor-Mendoza charged in sexual assaults of 10 women
Police are investigating a series of sexual assaults and believe there may be more victims linked to suspect ride-share driver John Pastor-Mendoza. The Denver District Attorney's Office has filed 41 felony counts against Pastor-Medoza , 41, alleging that he kidnapped, sexually assaulted or attempted to sexually assault 10 women between Sept. 16, 2018 and July 9 of this year
Investigators said that Pastor-Mendoza responded as the driver when the women used a ride-sharing app to request a ride. Prosecutors claim that he would either sexually assault his female victims in his vehicle or take them to his home and assault them there. On July 21, Denver police received a CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) match from evidence collected from three victims linking Pastor-Mendoza to the alleged sexual assaults. 'I felt disgusted' - Woman says HISPANIC (likely illegal alien) custodian urinated in her water bottle, giving her an STD 
HOUSTON — A custodian was arrested after a co-worker accused him of giving her a sexually transmitted disease when he urinated in her water bottle at a Houston medical office building, according to court documents.
Since then, 11 other potential victims have come forward and are continuing to be tested for sexually transmitted diseases, court documents say. Lucio Catarino Diaz is charged with aggravated assault, according to court documents. Graphic warning: Some people may find the details of this story disturbing. Investigators with the Houston Police Department said Diaz is accused of urinating in his co-worker’s water bottle and ultimately giving her an incurable sexually transmitted disease. This happened at an office located on Westmont Drive near the East Freeway in east Houston. The victim told investigators that in late August she got water from a dispenser but explained that it had a funny taste and smell to it. She dumped out the water and threw her water bottle out. After that, she said she started bringing her own water bottles to work. She explained to the police that she would bring a water bottle to work and if she did not finish it, she would leave it at her desk for the next day. A few days went by after the incident with the sour water from the dispenser, she noticed the water she brought from the store smelled nasty as well, court documents state. She then threw the water bottle away but said she could never figure out what it was. The victim said that in September, a co-worker volunteered to make her coffee, but she told them to use the water from her bottle and not the dispenser due to the smell. Her co-worker looked into her water bottle and asked her why it was yellow. “I felt disgusted," the victim, who wanted to stay anonymous, told KHOU 11's Jason Miles. “I raised it to my face, smelled it, and it smelled like urine” A urinalysis was done on the water by the doctor the victim worked for, which confirmed their suspicions. The doctor then told the victim that it was probably from the custodian. After the victim told some of her co-workers what happened, one of them told her the same thing happened to her. The victim told police she set up a hidden camera in her office. According to court documents, the suspect was caught on camera entering her office and rubbing his genitals on the victim’s water bottle. The woman then notified the police the next day and provided them with two water bottles as evidence. When police confronted Diaz about the incidents, he admitted to what he had done. Police were wearing body cameras at the time of the arrest and questioning. He also admitted to police that he had done something similar at a previous job where he worked for eight months. Diaz told police he did it out of “malicious intent” and that it was a “sickness.” Diaz also told police he could not remember how many times he had done this before and that he was not aware of any diseases he had. Lab results confirmed that the victim had contracted a sexually transmitted disease, which she did not have prior to the incident, according to court documents. The suspect also tested positive for the same disease and a second one as well. “It’s really just disgusting and my client will suffer the consequences of this man’s action for the rest of her life,” said Kim Spurlock, the victim's attorney. A Texas man accused of beating his girlfriend to the point where their unborn child died, will serve no jail time after taking a plea deal with the Travis County District Attorney's office Monday, according to reports.
Johnny Charles Ebbs V’s plea deal comes with eight years of deferred adjudication on a third-degree continuous family violence assault charge, meaning that he has not been found guilty at the time of sentencing and will have his offense dismissed if he doesn’t violate his probation. Police said Ebbs beat and hospitalized his pregnant girlfriend, LaShonda Lemons, in Austin in 2019. Three days later, the unborn child died due to blunt force trauma. Lemons’ attorney, Kelsey McKay, said in court that Ebbs’ bond and an agreed-upon protective order mandated that he was to forfeit his guns – a move he has yet to make, KXAN reported. McKay called firearm surrender laws and domestic violence laws "relatively useless" if they’re not being enforced. She said Ebbs' plea deal means he will be required to wear a GPS monitor for six months and will not serve any jail time. |

They requested assistance from a helicopter and from an officer "with less lethal munitions" and then drove back to the intersection where Osman was, Bower said. As the patrol vehicles approached the intersection, Osman continued to throw rocks, according to the sergeant. Edited body camera footage released by the department shows one officer exiting his vehicle and ordering Osman to "drop it." "Put it down now," the officer yells. Osman appears to pick up another rock and throw it. Seconds later, the officer fires several shots and Osman is seen collapsing to the ground. Another officer in the second patrol unit also fired his weapon at Osman, Bower said. The third officer did not fire. Bower said one of the rocks hit one of the officers in the shin and that both patrol vehicles were damaged, including one which had a broken spotlight. Rocks collected from the scene weighed between 2.9 ounces to 19.8 ounces, according to police. Osman's family previously said that he had dealt with mental health challenges. |

A detective previously testified the dispute started over an incident on Snapchat. Sparks, who has been jailed since her December 2021 arrest, sought youthful offender status. After a hearing this week, Jefferson County Circuit Judge Teresa Pulliam denied Sparks’ request. |

Two other suspects, 21-year-old Yaaseen Bivins and 17-year-old Zyheid Jones have been arrested. They are both charged with murder and other related charges. |

The boy was shirtless, both were barefoot and shivering when a kind woman in a nearby subdivision answered her door and let them inside. "They told me that their mom kept them locked in the laundry room, naked, zip tied from the ankles and handcuffed from the wrist," the woman told us. "'We would pee and poop on ourselves.' When they needed to bathe their mom would let them use the dirty mop water to bathe The twins told investigators they weren't allowed to use the toilet and were forced to drink their own urine. Both were malnourished and the boy had at least one fractured bone that had healed, a source said. They also had bruises, cuts and scars all over their bodies and were extremely thin with their bones sticking out. Hours later, Zaikiya Duncan, 40, and Jova Terrell, 27, were arrested in Baton Rouge. Both are charged with injury to a child and will be brought back to Houston on Thursday. Only one child was with the couple when they were arrested. The other four boys were later found safe with relatives in Louisiana. All seven children were placed in Child Protective Service custody, according to authorities. |

Affidavit: BLACK opened fire after group of bikers told him to leave
SAN ANTONIO – A man was arrested for shooting into a group of bikers outside a Northeast Side bar, seriously injuring two of them, according to court documents.
Bexar County Jail records show Keith Lamane Henley, 45, was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. An arrest warrant affidavit states that the shooting on May 14 at Sir Winston’s Pub in the 2500 block of Nacogdoches Road happened after a confrontation between a group of bikers and Henley, who was at the location with a woman. At some point, a physical altercation erupted inside the location and the group threatened to kill Henley if he didn’t leave, a witness told police. The group was allegedly armed with guns. Police said Henley and the woman exited the bar, but he went to his car to retrieve a gun. He then walked back to the front door where the bikers were standing and opened fire, the affidavit states. One man was shot in the head and another man was shot in his stomach. They were both taken to the hospital. Police officers at the scene said more than 50 gunshots rang out during the altercation. The gunman and the woman fled in a red vehicle, police said. |

Jose Manuel Quezada Jr. is set to be arraigned Nov. 15 in a Pomona courtroom on one felony count each of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse and one misdemeanor count of exhibiting a deadly weapon, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
The criminal complaint also includes a hate crime allegation, along with allegations of infliction of great bodily injury on an elderly victim and use of a deadly weapon. Quezada allegedly made racist remarks toward the security guard and attacked him Sept. 13 in the parking lot of Pomona’s Rio Rancho Towne Center, where the guard was working, according to the District Attorney’s Office. “The elderly gentleman in this case was protecting the safety of others when he was viciously attacked,” District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement announcing the charges. “Racism is a poison that we must boldly confront and oppose to bring about its end. My office will prosecute these crimes to make sure those who violently act out on their hateful beliefs are held accountable.” Quezada was arrested last Thursday by the Pomona Police Department and has remained behind bars since then. 44-year-old BLACK Detroit man charged in murder of roommate
(CBS DETROIT) - A 44-year-old Detroit man has been charged in connection with the homicide of his 43-year-old roommate, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
Corey Stacey Canty has been charged with one count of premeditated first-degree murder in the homicide of John Boble, also of Detroit. Police say at about 1:40 p.m. on Oct. 10, officers were dispatched to a home in the 5040 block of Fairview Street for a well-being check. When they arrived at the scene, they found the victim inside the home, unresponsive and not breathing |
(Black) San Antonio man charged with murder after shooting coworker outside of Florida hotel, deputies say
A shooting outside of a Florida hotel left one San Antonio man dead and another in custody and charged with murder, according to authorities.
Deputies in Hendry County, Fla., were called for the shooting around 7 a.m. Thursday to the parking lot of the Port LaBelle Inn, a hotel in LaBelle.
Deputies said they found Messiah Devon Grier, 29, of San Antonio, “lying in a large pool of blood,” without a trace of the suspect responsible. Witnesses told the sheriff’s office that an argument broke out between Grier and another San Antonio man -- 36-year-old Vincent Harris. Both are employed by the same damage restoration company. The fight quickly turned physical. Witnesses claimed Harris pulled a gun and shot Grier before getting into a company vehicle and leaving the scene. Deputies were later able to track down Harris, who was heading east on State Road 80. He was arrested on charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence. Harris is currently being held in the Hendry County Jail. No bond has been set. |

A 20-year-old Virginia man was arrested following a shooting in the early morning hours on Sunday that left eight people wounded near the James Madison University campus, the Harrisonburg Police Department announced.
Tyreaf Isaiah Fleming was arrested on Sunday afternoon and charged with attempted murder, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated malicious wounding, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The shooting happened around 2:20 a.m. during an "outdoor gathering" at an apartment complex about one mile from James Madison University. Witnesses told police that someone opened fire into the crowd at the gathering and law enforcement later identified Fleming as a suspect through surveillance video. Additional suspects could be arrested and Fleming could face additional charges as the investigation continues. Eight victims between the ages of 18 and 27 sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Five of them were transported to Sentara RMH Medical Center, while three were taken to UVA University Hospital. |
'Superfly' BLACK actor Kaalan Walker sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for rapes
Kaalan Walker, who appeared in 2018's "Superfly" film, was sentenced Monday to 50 years to life in state prison after being convicted on several counts of rape, the Los Angeles district attorney's office confirmed.
A jury found the 27-year-old guilty in April on three counts of forcible rape, one count of assault to commit oral copulation, two counts of statutory rape and two counts of rape by intoxication. USA TODAY reached out to Walker's attorney for comment. At the time of his conviction, Walker's attorney told USA TODAY in a statement that Walker "maintains his innocence" and "did not receive a fair trial as many important issues were excluded by the Court." According to NBC Los Angeles and Rolling Stone, the victims related to Walker's convicted charges include women and minors. The outlets also report that Walker was accused of using the prospect of photo shoots and industry connections to prey on vulnerable women. |

Virginia authorities have solved a serial rapist cold case dating back to 2008.
The Norfolk Police Department on Monday arrested William Phelps IV, 33, in connection to "several rapes that occurred in 2008," the police department announced in a Facebook post. The suspect is accused of assaulting two teenage girls on Jan. 9, 2008, around 7 a.m. on the 2900 block of Verdun Avenue in Norfolk, as well as two other rapes in Norfolk and one rape in Chesapeake, Virginia. Investigators had determined that the same suspect had been involved in each separate incident through forensic evidence but could not immediately determine an identity, and the case went cold for 14 years. Authorities have charged Phelps with rape, three counts of forcible sodomy, two counts of aggravated sexual battery, two counts of abduction, use of a firearm and wearing a mask in public, according to the Norfolk PD. FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Fairfax County Police Department is asking for help identifying and locating an armed man they say sexually assaulted a woman in a Vienna-area hotel room.
According to police, on Saturday, Oct. 1, a man walked into an unlocked hotel room on the 8600 block of Westwood Center Drive in the Vienna area with a firearm and physically and sexually assaulted a woman before leaving the hotel. On his way out, a man who knows the victim and had been made aware of the assault saw the suspect. The man began to chase the suspect, who pointed his firearm at the man and continued his escape. Evidence collected in the hotel room was sent to the Department of Forensic Services for analysis. The suspect was captured on security camera footage at the hotel, as well as the Eastern Market and Spring Hill Metro stations. It was determined that the he got to the hotel by taking the train from Eastern Market and changed to the Silver Line at the Capitol South station and got off at the Spring Hill Station. The suspect is described as a Black man between the ages of 25 and 40, standing between 5’8″ and 6″ with a heavy build and short curly black hair that is partially dyed blonde. Trevion Warner, 25, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with robbery and two counts of evading arrest, records with the Bexar County Jail show. He was also booked on two previous, unrelated marijuana charges. |
4 BLACK Suspects wanted for attempted murder after luring teens to home 
SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) -Sumter County Deputies are on the hunt for four people involved in a shooting along West Patricia Drive on Oct. 13.
Diamond Miller and Semieon Helton Hill are both 18 years old, Cryshaun Mckenzie is a 17-year-old and Jaquante Montgomery is a 22-year-old.
They’re all wanted for luring two teens into a home before robbing, shooting, and beating the teens. One of the teens is in critical condition after being struck multiple times in the face, abdomen, and leg. The other teen suffered a concussion after being beaten with a 9mm pistol. While trying to escape, one of the teens was shot. Both of the boys made it up the road from the house to Young’s Market store before calling 9-1-1. Investigators with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office tell WIS the exchange started on Snapchat. Three girls promised two 17-year-old boys sex and drugs at a home but once they were inside, they were ambushed by three males. “The three females left the residence, and of course, the males got into an altercation and gunshots went off,” said Sgt. Hampton Gardner with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were able to arrest two of the three girls involved in the incident but now four suspects remain at large. |

MAYESVILLE, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster suspended a member of the Mayesville Town Council Monday. McMaster signed an executive order suspending Terence R. Wilson from office until he is acquitted, convicted, or until a successor is elected.
A Grand Jury in Sumter County indicted Wilson with Threatening the Life of a Public Official. Wilson was arrested in July after an argument with Mayor Holliman Miller. Officials say escaped MEXICAN inmate from Colorado City jail still at large Wednesday morning
COLORADO CITY, Texas (KCBD) - Officials in Mitchell County and Scurry County are searching for an escaped inmate. An update from the City of Snyder Office of Emergency Management states the man is not considered dangerous, although earlier reports on Tuesday morning described him as being dangerous.
Pedro Martinez, 44, of Chihuahua, Mexico, was in jail on drug trafficking charges and money laundering. He was arrested on March 29 of this year on drug charges and had been awaiting trial until his escape Tuesday morning. As of Wednesday morning, Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs said Martinez has still not been caught. |

Biden ‘sold my father for oil,’ says son of American jailed by Saudis
WASHINGTON — The son of an elderly US citizen recently handed a 16-year, three-month prison sentence by Saudi Arabia for tweeting has told The Post he’s outraged at how President Biden and his deputies bungled the case. “He sold my father for oil, that’s clear to us. Especially when we saw the news last week about how they requested to delay the OPEC [oil production cuts] decision a month,” Ibrahim Almadi told The Post on Tuesday. Biden visited the oil-rich kingdom in July without winning the release of 72-year-old Saad Ibrahim Almadi or even publicly mentioning the case. The elder Almadi was convicted and sentenced Oct. 3 — after the State Department failed to send a representative to observe proceedings. “I am Democratic myself. I voted for Biden, which is a stupid mistake I did,” Ibrahim said. “My father’s a Republican registered voter. He wants to participate in the coming election.
