Eagle Pass, Texas — A federal judge in Austin on Thursday blocked Texas state officials from implementing a sweeping immigration law that would have allowed them to arrest, jail and prosecute migrants who cross into the U.S. illegally.
Boss Biden's 'Justice' Department and the American Civil Liberties Union" had challenged the law known as SB4, which was set to take effect on Tuesday, March 5. In a 114-page order, Judge David Ezra of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas granted the challengers' request for a preliminary injunction preventing Texas officials from enforcing the state law. Ezra wrote that the Constitution and Supreme Court precedent make clear that states cannot enforce immigration measures without federal approval, and that the Texas law conflicts with federal law. He rejected an argument from Texas that the state's authority to repel an "invasion" allows it to enforce SB4, writing that "surges in immigration do not constitute an 'invasion' within the meaning of the Constitution." Lastly, he said that allowing Texas to enforce the law would mean states could override federal statutes, a discredited constitutional theory known as nullification. "[T]o allow Texas to permanently supersede federal directives on the basis of an invasion would amount to nullification of federal law and authority — a notion that is antithetical to the Constitution and has been unequivocally rejected by federal courts since the Civil War," Ezra wrote. In a statement, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott vowed to "immediately appeal this decision, and we will not back down in our fight to protect our state — and our nation — from President Biden's border crisis." Attorney General Ken Paxton soon filed notice with the court that the state was appealing the ruling. The appeal will come before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, which could pause the district judge's decision while it reviews the case. Either party could ultimately ask the Supreme Court to review the appeals court's action. Abbott noted that "[e]ven from the bench, this District Judge acknowledged that this case will ultimately be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court." The high court could agree to hear the case, or let the lower court's ruling stand as the final word on the issue. |

BRONX, NEW YORK: NYPD is looking for a teenager they believe is responsible for a deadly shooting on the subway. The shooting occurred over a gang dispute, killing one person who wasn't involved and hurting others, Fox News reports.
During rush hour on February 12, a fight erupted at Mount Eden station in The Bronx when the suspect Maurice Stewart, 15, fired shots around killing a person. Cops identified the victim as Obed Beltran-Sanchez, 34 years old, who died in the hospital. (BLACK) Louisiana murder suspect escapes custody after pepper spraying deputy, stealing her vehicle
A Louisiana inmate in custody on a second-degree murder charge escaped Sunday after pepper spraying his transporting deputy and stealing her vehicle, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.
Leon Ruffin had been transferred from the corrections center to a local hospital around 12 p.m. after suffering a possible seizure. He was discharged around 6:30 p.m. and escorted back by a deputy. As the deputy was leaving the hospital with Ruffin in the vehicle, he "created some type of disturbance." The deputy got out of the car and opened the door to check on Ruffin when he pepper sprayed her, Sheriff Joe Lopinto said in a press conference. Ruffin escaped in the vehicle. His whereabouts are unknown. “I really don’t believe he has anything to lose,” Lopinto said. “He’s in for a second-degree murder for life in prison at this point in time, so I definitely consider him armed and dangerous by all means.” The deputy had her pepper spray, taser and weapon on her as Ruffin escaped and was able to fire three shots at him. It remains unclear if any rounds hit Ruffin. Ruffin does not have access to a firearm, but he is still carrying the pepper spray and driving the deputy's vehicle. Authorities do not know how Ruffin obtained the pepper spray. Prior to receiving treatment at the hospital, Ruffin had been in the medical facility of the corrections center, but Lopinto said they believe he was faking his injuries. Ruffin was wearing a walking boot from the hospital, which he removed at the time of his escape. The deputy was treated for the pepper spray at the hospital and is in “good spirits.” The search for Ruffin remains ongoing. |

Bowman was responding to a question from Marty Dolan, one of two Democrats challenging the two-term incumbent in a party primary this year, who asked the congressman whether he thought it was a mistake “to teach the children in your school that a cop killer should be on ‘The Wall of Heroes'” at the Cornerstone Academy for Social Action. “My school included black and Latino students,” Bowman, who is black, railed to Dolan, who is white. “We tried to teach as much of our black and Latino history as possible — the good, the bad and the ugly.” Bowman, who represents part of the Bronx and Westchester County in New York’s 16th congressional district, noted that Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the US and a co-signer of the Declaration of Independence, was a slaveholder. We, our kids in my school learned the history of a people off the walls — and many other people and so, that’s what we did. Period.” Part of the extremist group the Black Liberation Army, Chesimard was one of three people accused in a May 2, 1973 shooting that broke out when they were stopped in their vehicle for a motor vehicle violation on the Jersey Turnpike. A second trooper was also wounded in the shooting. At the time, Chesimard was wanted for her role in several other felonies, including a bank robbery. Chesimard, was found guilty of first degree murder, but escaped from a Clinton, New Jersey prison on Nov. 2, 1979 and resurfaced in Cuba, where she is still believed to be residing. She is on the FBI’s Most Wanted List, which is offering a $1 million reward for her return. A man in Flint, Michigan, has become the first person to be charged under the state’s new safe firearms storage law after his 2-year-old daughter shot herself in the head with his gun, leaving her in critical condition, prosecutors said.
The father, Michael Tolbert, is also facing a slew of other charges in the Valentine’s Day shooting, including child abuse, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and lying to a police officer, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton announced Tuesday. The incident happened the day after the firearms storage law went into effect, requiring gun owners to store firearms unloaded and secured with a locking device or stored in a lockbox if a minor lives at or is likely to visit their property. “This is the first case in Michigan where an individual has been charged with violating the firearm safe storage law,” Leyton said in a news conference. Police searched Tolbert’s home after he brought his daughter, Skye McBride, to a hospital with a gunshot wound to her head, Leyton said. Doctors say Skye, who was still in critical condition Tuesday, will lose her eye, he added. Inside Tolbert’s home, police found a revolver and a semi-automatic pistol in a bedroom, where there was blood on the floor next to a toddler’s chair, the prosecutor said. “Upon examining the firearms, both were unsecured and loaded with live ammunition,” Leyton said. “There were no gun locks or safes inside of this front bedroom.” |

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A man was found guilty of murder in a hate crime case after he beat a man to death outside a St. Pete bar in 2020.
Earlier this month, Kristoff King was sentenced to life in prison for killing Scott Jenks in a St. Pete strip mall parking lot. Court documents show Jenks was beaten for nearly 80 minutes, and King yelled racial epithets and slurs at him while doing so. During the trial, a jury found King guilty of first-degree murder and ruled the killing to be a hate crime. ABC Action News spoke exclusively with Jenks's sister, Linda Jenks-Young, following the verdict in this case. "It was a very long process. People are like, 'It's all over. Now you can move on. Nicholas Jordan, 25, is facing two charges of first-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, of Pueblo, and Samuel Knopp, 24, of Parker, in the early morning hours of Feb. 16.
Jordan and Knopp were roommates and students at the UCCS, according to previous reporting from The Gazette. |

An illegal immigrant from Honduras has been charged with multiple counts related to child pornography and filming minors in Virginia.
Gherson Gonzales Hernandez, 24, faces 10 counts related to child pornography material and two counts of unlawful creation of a videographic or still image of a minor, FOX 5 DC reported. The unlawful filming charge is related to an alleged August 2019 offense. The others are connected to a November 2023 offense. He was arrested Feb. 9. |

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police have identified the suspect in the killing of a Temple University student. Samuel Sean Collington, 21, was shot twice in the chest following an attempted robbery near his off-campus apartment Sunday.
Police confirmed Wednesday the suspect is 17-year-old Latif Williams. He is said to be 5-foot-5, weighs 170 pounds, has a medium complexion brown eyes and brown hair. Williams is wanted for murder. The youngest of Philadelphia's homicide victims, as of late, are 14, 16 and 21. At a photo op, federal, state and city law enforcement officials took questions for a total of 19 minutes, covering ground about a new partnership that leaders promised would have an immediate impact in a city wounded by soaring gun violence. "One thing that will be an immediate game-changer is some of the Department of Justice subject matter experts are grant experts. They are going to be assessing where the gaps might be, finding us grant programs that might be targeted where they have needs," U.S. Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams said. On Tuesday afternoon, sources at police headquarters confirmed to Eyewitness News detectives were a step closer to making an arrest in the deadly shooting of Collington, a Prospect Park man who was set to graduate from Temple in the near future. A Pizza Hut worker in Wisconsin killed his manager in the restaurant's kitchen in order to steal a $7,000 inheritance from him, according to police.
Kavonn Ingram, 31, allegedly shot dead 55-year-old Alex Stengel and slashed his throat at the pizza chain's kitchen on February 5, before dragging his body outside and throwing it in a garbage can. Police were alerted to the gruesome finding at the dumpster behind the South Milwaukee eatery two days later, and followed the trail of blood back to the Pizza Hut's kitchen. Investigators say Stengel had cashed a $7,000 inheritance check in the days before his murder and had showed off the cash to co-workers, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Ingram was arrested a few days after the body was discovered and charged with murder, hiding a corpse, armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon. Police believe he wrapped Stengel in a garbage bag after killing him and then wheeled him outside to the dumpster area. Stengel's wallet and phone had also been taken when his body was found. Security surveillance reportedly captured a suspect dressed in black dragging a garbage can from the Pizza Hut to the dumpster. The suspect appeared to be struggling with the weight of what was in the bag, according to police. Detectives said the majority of the restaurant appeared dirty except for a section of the kitchen that looked like it had been cleaned recently, per a criminal complaint. The metal doors also appeared to have been cleaned. Police also said they found what looked like bloody handprints on the handle of a closet. Ingram allegedly clocked out for Stengel after the murder in an attempt to cover up the crime, according to police. The Pizza Hut's regional manager told police that she had received a text from Stengel's phone saying he was not feeling well and was clocking out early.

The body of 55-year-old Alexander Stengel was found in a garbage cart outside the restaurant near Carroll and Chicago Avenue Wednesday morning, Feb. 7.
On Feb. 11, officers announced an arrest was made in connection to Stengel's death. The accused is 31-year-old Kavonn Ingram, who now faces charges of first-degree intentional homicide, (as a party to a crime), hiding a corpse (as a party to a crime) armed robbery (use of force- as a party to a crime) and possession of a firearm by a felon. According to a criminal complaint, investigators determined Stengel was likely killed in the kitchen area of the Pizza Hut, wrapped in a garbage bag from the restaurant, placed in a garbage can and then wheeled outside to the dumpster crib area - all before 10:25 a.m. on Feb. 5. A medical examiner's report determined the manner of death was homicide, noting a gunshot wound and puncture wounds to the victim's neck and head. Prosecutors say surveillance video obtained by officers shows a suspect dragging a garbage can from the area of Pizza Hut toward the dumpster crib the morning of Feb. 5. The video reportedly shows the suspect struggling to pull the garbage can, as though it contains something heavy. The complaint says computer records show the victim clocked in for work at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 5 and clocked out of work at 10:50 a.m. The security video shows the can containing the victim's body had been dragged to its location about 25 minutes before this time, indicating the suspect is an employee familiar with the Pizza Hut computer and time management system. Investigators learned that days prior, the victim had shown a large roll of cash to several employees, Ingram being one of them. The complaint says an investigation revealed Stengel had cashed an inheritance check just before heading to work that day and likely had $7,000 in his possession. A man arrested in connection with the death of 34-year-old Vincent Crutcher was in court Saturday.
Jeremiah Banks, 20, was arrested Friday after failing to appear in court Monday. He was arraigned on a stolen weapons charge Saturday morning with a $5,000 bond established. He is being held on a $150,000 bond for a complicity to murder and robbery charge in connection with Crutcher's death. Warrants were issued for Jeremiah Banks along with Devin Watts in the murder investigation. Police say Crutcher was killed on June 23, 2022, in the 4000 block of Heatherview Road. When officers arrived, they found him suffering from a gunshot wound. Crutcher was taken to UofL Hospital, where he later died. Banks is being held at Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. He will next appear in court on Feb. 26 at 11:30 a.m. A third suspect in the case, Charvontae Reed, was arrested shortly after the shooting. His trial is set to begin in August. Watts still remains at large. |

Suspended Dauphin Co. Judge Sonya McKnight was arrested Thursday and charged with attempted murder.
According to a press release from the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office, McKnight allegedly shot a man in the head while he was sleeping in bed. The bullet entered the right side of the victim's face, went through his head in a straight line and slightly below his eyes, and exited on the left side of his face, according to the D.A. The victim survived, but is now blind in one eye as a result. McKnight was arrested Thursday afternoon and taken to the Susquehanna Police Department. The Cumberland County District Attorney is investigating the case due to conflicts of interest within the Dauphin County District Attorney's Office and the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office. She is currently being processed at the Dauphin County Central Booking Center, and has been given a bail of $300,000. McKnight is also facing aggravated assault charges. |

He was last seen wearing a brownish-green coat with a black Nirvana hoodie and black Under Armour track pants. Ortiz was on an immigration detainer and was deported at least five separate times, according to CBS7. His identity was confirmed by fingerprints taken during his first removal. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City mother has been charged in the gruesome death of a 1-month-old child.
Around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, the Kansas City Police Department was called to a house near 41st Street and Forest Avenue. Upon arrival, crews found an unresponsive child who was declared dead at the scene. Detectives said the circumstances around the child’s death were suspicious enough to cause concern and they began an investigation. On Saturday, more information was released by the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, including charges against the infant’s mother, Mariah Thomas. Reportedly, first responders at the scene noticed burns on the child, who was not breathing when they arrived. They said Thomas told them that she was putting the child down for a nap but accidentally put the child in the oven instead of the crib. According to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, Thomas “faces the Class A felony of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 1st Degree, Death of a Child.” Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker issued a statement, acknowledging the gruesome nature of the incident: “We appreciate all first responders who worked this scene and the prosecutors who went to the scene in order to issue these charges. Two gunmen opened fire inside Union Station shortly after 3:30pm, seconds after the team including Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes left the stage. Police evacuated the train station as huge crowds fled in panic after the shots rang out, with up to one million people expected to have descended on Kansas City for the parade. The two gunmen were detained, although their identities and motive remain unclear. Loved ones are devastated after a grandfather was shot to death after a fender bender in San Bernardino County.
The incident happened on Feb. 5, as the victim, Jonathan Mauk, 59, drove to a Walmart in Highland on an errand run. At around 8 p.m., Jonathan arrived at the parking lot and was searching for an open spot. As he drove down an aisle, the female suspect was backing out of a parking spot. “For whatever reason, the victim stopped and slowly backed his vehicle up and that’s when he had a collision with the suspect’s vehicle,” explained Capt. Nelson Carrington with the San Bernardino Police Department. Police said the impact was minor, resulting in a scratch or two. When Jonathan got out of his car to apologize, that’s when the suspect allegedly stepped out of her car and shot Jonathan in the face before driving off. The nigress suspect was later identified as Shawntece Norton, 36, according to San Bernardino police. When officers arrived at the scene, John was found with a gunshot to his head and was pronounced dead. Loved ones are struggling to process the news of John’s death as they remember a man who loved his family. John worked at Carey’s Fine Automobiles in San Bernardino where his coworkers were stunned to hear of his death. “I cried when I found out he got killed,” said Lee Hall, the victim’s friend and coworker. “That’s what he loved — cars. He probably would have fixed the lady’s car for nothing, but she ended up shooting him.” Jonathan’s son, Matthew Mauk, is struggling to understand how his father could be murdered over a minor incident. INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Formal charges have been filed against a 30-year-old Indianapolis man for his involvement in the murders of two women on Mitthoeffer Road, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday.
David Hiner was arrested for his alleged role in the murders of 58-year-old Shannon Lassere and 52-year-old Marianne Weis, committed just days apart. Online court records show Hiner’s initial hearing was set for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in Marion Superior Court 20. “This was brutal and evil what happened to them,” said Acting Chief Chris Bailey of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department during a news conference to announce the arrests. “These women defended themselves the best they could.” Police on Jan. 27 found the body of Weis and on Feb. 1 found Lassere dead. Both bodies were found about 150 yards apart near 21st Street and Mitthoeffer Road on the east side of Indianapolis. The Marion County Coroner’s Office determined both women were killed by multiple sharp force injuries. Detectives say videos from businesses in the area showed a male and one of the women together on the the night of each murder. On Tuesday, detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Human Trafficking and Vice Unit located a male they believed was the person in the video. The suspect, Hiner, was later pulled in to speak with homicide detectives. Police on Wednesday executed a search warrant at the Hiner’s apartment in the 2200 block of Harbor Drive. Detectives found shoes in his apartment that appeared to have dried blood on them. A pair of jeans were also found soaking in a bucket of bleach in the bathtub. The shoes were sent to the lab for expedited DNA analysis, police say, which later matched the blood of both victims. |

Surfun Boens was convicted of killing Russell McKeehan at the Fleur Lodge in January of last year. Boens wanted a new trial, claiming the jury was not instructed properly and that he did not get a fair or impartial trial. That request was denied by the judge. |

CINCINNATI —
A Bond Hill man accused of throwing a woman's dead body out of an apartment window is now facing charges for her murder.
According to Cincinnati police, the body was discovered back in October in the 1600 block of Anita Place. Upon arrival, officers located a victim behind the building. Cincinnati Fire Department personnel responded and determined the 44-year-old woman was dead. In October, Anthony Howard, 53, was charged with abuse of a corpse, obstructing official business and tampering with evidence in a death investigation. Court documents also allege Howard admitted to having an ongoing sexual relationship with the victim and initially lying to investigators. On Friday, Howard was indicted on murder, involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault charges. Howard is being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center with no bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 15. |

Davion Irvin, 24, was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of burglary to a building, the records show. Dallas police have said the charges relate to the suspected theft in late January of the tamarin monkeys and the mid-January disappearance of a clouded leopard from its enclosure after its fence had been cut. Irvin was arrested February 2, just days after police say the were intentionally taken from their zoo enclosure, which had been cut open. Two days before Irvin’s arrest, police found the monkeys unharmed in the closet of a Dallas-area home. The indictment alleges that Irvin entered a building without the zoo’s consent on the day the monkeys disappeared and “did then and there commit a theft.” |

A California man was arrested on Wednesday night in connection with a theft from an Apple Store in Berkeley, in which he is allegedly seen on video snatching display devices before walking past a police vehicle and walking to a getaway car.
Emeryville Police Department detectives arrested 22-year-old Tyler Mims of Berkeley for his involvement in the theft, and charged him with burglary, grand theft and other crimes. On Monday, officers with the department were dispatched to the scene after a caller reported the crime and said the suspect fled with 50 iPhones, with a total value of $49,230. Chinese hackers had access to US infrastructure for 'at least 5 years' before discovery 
Chinese hacking groups maintained access to U.S. infrastructure systems for "at least five years" before they were discovered recently, according to a new report from U.S. security groups.
The Joint Cybersecurity Advisery issued its findings on Wednesday, saying that Chinese hackers had access but remained dormant inside U.S. systems. The hackers have infiltrated "Communications, Energy, Transportation Systems, and Waste and Wastewater Systems Sectors — in the continental and non-continental United States and its territories." The advisory is made up of U.S. law enforcement groups as well as security groups from the allied nations of Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the U.K. The report states that the cyber operation's goal was not intelligence gathering, but instead to gain access to and control critical infrastructure across the U.S. The report adds that the hackers could wreak havoc on U.S. systems in the event of a major conflict between the U.S. and China. |

The toast started out in standard fashion. “To your health.” Drink. “To your families.” Drink. Then came the twist. “And to remembering that blood is thicker than water. Chinese blood runs through you. You understand us, and know that no matter what flag you wear on your shoulders, you are Chinese first and foremost.” I lifted the glass to my lips but did not drink. That particular line was, and is, a common phrase in Chinese Communist Party (CCP) propaganda specifically aimed at the Chinese diaspora. While that dinner was a number of years ago, the propaganda has not changed. In fact, Chinese influence operations in the United States have dramatically intensified and increased in sophistication over the last few years. NYPD officers were assaulted in three separate incidents in as many days — and two of the accused attackers were released without bail by a Manhattan judge Monday — amid a troubling spike in violence against cops.
Schmar Green, 28, and David Daniels, 34, were granted supervised release by Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Valentina Morales, over the objection of prosecutors, after allegedly coming after cops in the subway system over the weekend. But Morales did set a $10,000 bail for Michael Thomas, 24, of Great Neck, Long Island, who was accused of slugging an officer in the face in Times Square just after midnight on Sunday. The arresting officer said that Thomas had aggressively pursued him and another cop on patrol in the area, claiming it was his First Amendment right to follow them, according to court documents. After twice being warned to back off, Thomas persisted, continuing to tail the officers “for several minutes” and saying it was his right because they were public servants, the criminal complaint alleges. The officers asked him to stop, but Thomas instead allegedly punched one of them in the face, causing bleeding, swelling, redness and substantial pain, police said. Some Republicans Want AFRICAN NIGRESS Ilhan Omar Deported Over Something She Didn’t Say 
REP. MARJORIE TAYLOR Greene (R-Ga.) submitted a resolution on Thursday seeking to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), accusing the Somali-American congresswoman of making “treasonous statements” and of having “revealed herself to be a foreign agent acting on behalf of a foreign government,” through her support for the Somali community.
There’s just one problem: Omar didn’t actually give the statements quoted by Greene in her resolution. Greene’s is what appears to be an egregious mistranslations of a speech Omar gave at an event in Minneapolis — home to a large Somali immigrant population — on Saturday. Despite their inaccuracy, the alleged quotes have ginned up calls for Omar’s expulsion from the government and (even though she’s an American citizen) her deportation. A video of the speech, which Omar delivered in Somali, superimposed with the faulty translations, went viral on social media over the weekend. (CNN) — The man accused in a 2021 triple homicide, including the killing of golf pro Gene Siller, pleaded guilty to murder charges Friday and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, prosecutors said.
Bryan Anthony Rhoden, 26, pleaded guilty to 17 counts including several felony murder charges in the killings on July 3, 2021, at a golf country club in the Atlanta area, according to a news release from the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office. Rhoden was arrested and charged days after the fatal shootings of Siller as well as Paul Pierson and Henry Valdez at the Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Georgia, about 25 miles north of Atlanta. At the time, police said Siller was shot dead on the country club’s golf course because he witnessed a crime involving Rhoden and the other two men. Rhoden and Valdez met with Pierson at an auto shop in Jonesboro, Georgia, which is about 40 miles south of the country club. Pierson was instructed to bring marijuana to the meeting, the district attorney’s office said. At some point, Rhoden held Valdez and Pierson captive with zip ties and duct tape before placing them in the back of a truck later found on the golf course, the district attorney’s office added. Then police were called to the country club to a report of a person shot. They found 46-year-old Siller – who was the club’s director of golf – shot in the head near the green of the course’s 10th hole, police said at the time. A New Jersey-based migrant gang is smuggling hordes of illegal immigrants into the US across the Canadian border for a price of $6,000 a head, a new report reveals.
The human smuggling gang took root after its founders were briefly detained and cut loose by federal immigration authorities. The ringleaders, migrants from Guatemala and Colombia, snuck across the Mexican border and set up shop in the Garden State, running the lucrative scheme while dodging the feds, according to a report by the Daily Mail. While US Border Patrol agents grapple with an overwhelming flow of asylum seekers from Mexico, the Jersey-based gang has helped spark an under-the-radar surge in crossings along the northern border, the outlet said. Despite now finally being in custody, a third cohort, identified as Guatemalan national Simon Jacinto-Ramos, remains on the loose and running the operation. |

32-year-old Cornelius Antonio Sims has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing 28-year-old Wonya Malik Ryan.

(BLACK) Columbia man convicted of 2022 murder at Manheim Township nightclub 
A Columbia man was convicted of murder Thursday afternoon for a 2022 shooting that killed a man at a Manheim Township nightclub.
A jury found Tyler Wilson, 29, guilty of all charges against him, including third-degree murder, for the March 2022 killing of 25-year-old Jatavis Scott outside of Club Twenty3 in Manheim Township, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney's office. Wilson also was convicted on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and eight counts of recklessly endangering another person. The 12-member jury deliberated three hours after a four-day trial before finding Wilson guilty, returning a verdict around 3 p.m., according to the district attorney. Prosecutors showed footage of Wilson and Scott arguing inside the now-closed Club Twenty3 on March 29, 2022, which resulted in a fight. Security moved the men outside. The argument continued outside and culminated in Wilson pulling out a firearm and shooting Scott twice. Scott was driven to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. v Wilson is being held in Lancaster County Prison while he awaits sentencing, which has yet to be scheduled. |

Murder charges were filed on May 1 against Jalen Frierson and Hakeem Jackson in the shooting death of Eric Preer on April 23.
Family says the 31-year-old was gunned down while working at a smoke shop on College Avenue to help support his two young daughters and his mother, who has terminal cancer. According to court documents, Jalen Frierson walked into the shop to commit a robbery and shot Preer without warning, while Hakeem Jackson stood as lookout. Frierson and Jackson were also charged with robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has charged a man following the weekend shooting of a teenager in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minn.
Ali Abdirashid Jama, 35, has been charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon in the shooting that took place just before 1 a.m. Sunday that seriously injured a 16-year-old boy. Police were dispatched about 12:46 a.m. Sunday to the area of South 5th Street and South 19th Avenue initially on a report of a person breaking into a vehicle and the victim had begun assaulting the suspect, according to dispatch audio. Within two minutes, the dispatcher aired a report of shots fired and a possible shooting at the same location. University of Minnesota police arrived on scene along with Minneapolis officers and had located both the suspect and the victim, according to further dispatches. Police aired that the suspect was in custody and that a male had been shot in the lower back. Further dispatch audio from EMS responders indicated that a 16-year-old male had been shot in the abdomen and back and had been transported to the hospital. |

3 BLACK men wanted for man's death in Norristown arrested in New York: Montgomery County DA 
NORRISTOWN (CBS) -- Three men wanted in connection to a man's death in Norristown on Jan. 20 were arrested in New York Wednesday night.
The U.S. Marshals Service of Philadelphia announced on social media the arrests of 18-year-old Damon Brantley Jr., 29-year-old Daquan Allen and 28-year-old Jerry Butler. They are all waiting to be extradited to Pennsylvania from Broome County Jail. According to the release, Norristown police were alerted about shots fired on West Wood Street and Powell Street around 7:49 p.m. on Jan. 20 and found (black man) William Wallace Carter dead on the sidewalk on the west side of West Wood Street. Officials said a homicide investigation with Norristown police and Montgomery County detectives revealed Brantley of Norristown, Allen of Norristown and Butler of Philadelphia were involved in the armed robbery and killing of Carter. They also identified Brantley as the shooter. The DA's office said video surveillance showed three men robbed Carter and then ran from a gray Toyota RAV4. After the robbery, they said Brantley fired three shots, shooting Carter once in the head, killing him. An extended magazine and ammo found at Brantley's girlfriend's apartment in Norristown also connected him to the shooting, officials said. They also found Brantley driving the RAV-4 multiple times in Cheltenham since the car was reported stolen on Dec. 21, according to the release. Officials said there is more evidence that connects the three men to the armed robbery and fatal shooting. Police said the suspect was wearing a black North Face jacket at the time of the alleged sexual assault at the Walmart on the 1600 block of South Columbus Boulevard. The man is about 6 feet tall, Black, with a medium build and dreadlocks, according to police. He was also wearing gray sweatpants and black shoes. ORLANDO, Fla. — A jury on Wednesday afternoon recommended that a judge sentence Bessman Okafor to death for the 2012 killing of 19-year-old Alex Zaldivar.
That was the second time a jury had recommended the death penalty for Okafor -- a jury had originally sentenced him to death in 2015, but a change in how the state handles the death penalty led to a resentencing trial; a second attempt ended in a mistrial last year. Zaldivar was supposed to testify against Okafor in a home invasion case. Prosecutors said Okafor masterminded Zalvidar’s execution-style killing, and the attempted killing of two others to prevent them from testifying against him. A grand jury chose not to indict a disturbed Brooklyn man for attempted murder after he attacked three cops with a machete, according to law enforcement sources and union officials.
Jean Blain, 40, is now being held in a psych ward as investigators probe his role in an earlier attack that left a man fearing for his life, sources and the union said. Blain, who goes by the aliases of “Insane Blain” and “Peter,” according to sources – was cuffed Jan. 22 following the violent caught-on-video confrontation with three cops inside his East Flatbush apartment on New York Avenue near Beverley Road, authorities said. But during an appearance in Brooklyn Criminal Court this week, the grand jury cut Blain a break because of his mental health issues, sources said. Blain – who was initially ordered held without bail – could still, however, be indicted from assault and weapons charges, the sources said. Heart-pounding bodycam footage obtained by The Post Tuesday captures Blain growing increasingly agitated as a sergeant and two officers – who responded to an “emotionally disturbed person” call – plead with him to be “cooperative.” The tension boils over when Blain stands on his bed, wielding the long blade. “Know what? F–k that!” he seethes, swinging the weapon at a cop as another officer warns, “S–t! Look out!” A 40-year-old sergeant was slashed across the side of the head, police said. |

The man accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death before dumping her body at a Boston airport before hopping on a flight out of the country was arrested at a nightclub in Kenya, Massachusettes state police announced Tuesday.
Kevin Kangethe, 41, was busted by the country’s authorities Monday — three months after cops found the slashed body of Margaret “Maggie” Mbitu abandoned in a garage at Logan airport. Mbitu’s family reported her missing on Oct. 30, two days before officials made the gruesome discovery in the Central Parking lot. The 31-year-old nurse was found with massive slash wounds to her face and neck, as well as other puncture wounds to her sides, with officers noting she showed “obvious signs of death.” The car, registered to Kangethe, was covered in blood, police noted. Cops quickly determined Kangethe was a suspect, but he had already left the country for Kenya. |

Kwavaughn Buckley was charged with first-degree murder and armed burglary with assault or battery.
WINTER PARK, Fla. — Following a days-long search, deputies say they arrested a man Tuesday afternoon in Winter Haven who was wanted for killing another man. Kwavaughn Buckley, 23, is facing charges of first-degree murder and armed burglary with assault or battery. On Thursday evening, Buckley broke into the home of 36-year-old Jeremiah Aguirre on Lauderdale Court in Poinciana, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Buckley reportedly shot Aguirre twice, with one of the bullets hitting his abdomen and killed him. Deputies say Buckley appeared to have killed Aguirre due to jealousy over a woman. Aguirre's body was found by his family a couple of days later at his home, authorities said. “I want to acknowledge not only the great work by our Homicide detectives, but also the Winter Park Police Department in capturing our murder suspect," Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement. "They also recovered a firearm that we are working to confirm as the possible murder weapon. With this arrest, a very dangerous man is now locked up.” The 23-year-old was booked into Orange County Jail and will be transferred to the Polk County Jail at a later time. |
