(Black) Man arrested for allegedly shooting someone over missing tablet in South Memphis, MPD says
A man was arrested for firing shots, over a missing tablet.
On Jul. 18, 2021, the Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to an aggravated assault call in the 200 block of West Waldorf Avenue.
The caller, Labarbara Hill, told police that she was visiting her grandmother’s house and her daughter was playing with a tablet. Hill after leaving the residence, received a phone call that the tablet is missing, according to an affidavit. A verbal argument started over the missing tablet. When Hill returned back to the residence, a man, later identified as Teveyon Vaughn, walked outside and fired multiple shots through the front windshield, police said. Hill stepped out of the vehicle and questioned the shooter, “you shot me over a tablet?”. Vaughn answered with, “Don’t play with my momma”, according to an affidavit. The shooting victim was taken by private vehicle to an MFD fire station, then later sent to The Med in critical condition. Hill positively identified Vaughn in a six-person lineup. Teveyon Vaughn has been charged with attempt 1st-degree murder, and employing a firearm during commission to commit a dangerous felony. |

A sicko straphanger is wanted for sexually abusing a 36-year-old woman aboard a 3 train in Manhattan in April, police said. The unknown suspect approached the unsuspecting woman on a moving southbound 3 train on April 29 shortly after 1 p.m., cops said. The twisted train passenger kissed his victim near her mouth and ear and then touched her inner thigh, grabbed her breast and genital area over her clothing, police said. The wanted individual stepped off the train at the Park Place station following the unprovoked attack, authorities said. The shaken victim was not injured in the sexual abuse incident. The NYPD on Friday released a photo of the unidentified suspect and is hoping anyone with information will come forward. <----<⭐︎>----> DARK CRIME: Chilling video shows NYPD gunning down an armed suspect A chilling 44-second video captures the moment cops killed an armed suspect who police said fired an airsoft pistol at a plainclothes officer in the Bronx. The video, obtained by The Post, shows a man dressed in dark clothing carrying what appears to be a firearm. The man moves from the street to a sidewalk, takes several steps and then backtracks, before he collapses facedown on the ground, footage of the Friday incident shows. One plainclothes officer appears to be on his police radio, and he and a second plainclothes officer are seen with guns drawn before a third plainclothes officer emerges. The daughter “saw the gun in the guy’s hand and when he pointed it at the police, the police didn’t hesitate to blast him,” Ital said, adding that the shot from police “came right across her face, in front of her.” The slain suspect had 10 prior arrests, seven of them for felonies, police said. Atara Smith, 37, and her 'partner' were about to give Sadek Gourmet Deli in the Bronx a summons for selling tobacco to a minor when the profanity-laced altercation with store owner (North African) Sadek Almhillah occurred. Almhillah denied calling the city Department of Consumer and Worker Protection employees the n-word, calling Smith “f–king bitch,” and telling her to “suck a d–k”, during the November 2019 incident, records show. Even though records from the city’s Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings show a judge found the deli owner was “not a credible witness” and had intentionally tried “to incite an angry and emotional reaction” from the inspectors, Smith was axed in December for repeatedly used the F-word. A man once described as among the most violent gang members in Brooklyn and who was busted in a smash-and-grab robbery in Soho this month says that he’s a victim — claiming in legal papers that cops were too rough on him during two previous arrests. Ricardo Forde, 25, of Brooklyn says in a 2021 federal lawsuit that it was the NYPD that has left him injured, “deprived of his liberty” and unable to enjoy his life, court papers say. “Criminals feel they’re always in the right now. They’re being persecuted by the police,” said Joseph Giacalone, a John Jay College of Criminal Justice professor and a former NYPD sergeant. “Right now they view the criminal justice system as weak and they’re going to take advantage of every avenue given to them.” Forde, 25, was allegedly among five men who targeted the Rebag boutique at 390 West Broadway on May 5 and shattered display cases with hammers to remove eight handbags worth $24,700. Terrified employees and shoppers at the high-end designer resale shop ran to the back of the store, according to criminal complaints. Forde is accused of fleeing in a Jeep and then hitting a police car before jumping out and bolting. A 23-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested in connection with a deadly April drive-by shooting in the Bronx that left one man dead and two others injured, police said.
The suspect, Ariel Martinez, was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, the NYPD said. Martinez was allegedly one of two people in a black Mercedes sedan that drove up and opened fire on a group of men standing outside a corner store at East 174th Street and Clay Avenue in Claremont on April 23, authorities said. The shooting claimed the life of Joshua Garcia, a 27-year-old Bronx resident, who was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital. Two other men, ages 34 and 39, were wounded, but survived the shooting, cops said. <----<⭐︎>----> NYC overnight shootings leave one dead, 4 injured A 27-year-old man Bronx man was killed and four others hurt in at least four shootings across the city overnight, police said. Miguel Rodriguez, of East 137th Street, died after he was shot in the head inside Joyce Kilmer Park in the Bronx, police said. Cops responding to a 911 call of a shooting at around 2 a.m. found the victim inside the park at the corner of East 161st Street and Grand Concourse, authorities said. Rodriguez was pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital. There have been no arrests. Around 3 a.m., also in the Bronx, a 35-year-old man was shot in the right leg and a 21-year-old was shot in the right arm during a dispute on East 176th Street and Webster Avenue in Tremont, cops said. Police are looking for a man in his 30s, wearing dark clothing, who ran from the scene following the shooting. 'Alleged' subway shooter Frank James has been indicted after authorities say he shot multiple people on a Brooklyn train station last month.
According to the indictment from the United States District Court Eastern District of New York, a grand jury indicted James with carrying out a terror attack against a mass transit system as well as discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. If convicted on the first count, James faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. If convicted on the second count, James faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison with a maximum of life in prison. No date has been set for the arraignment.
James is accused of injuring 29 people in a Sunset Park, Brooklyn, subway station around 8:25 a.m. on the morning of April 12. James was allegedly aboard a Manhattan-bound N train during morning rush-hour when he placed a gas mask on his face, activated a smoke canister and opened fire inside the train and on the platform of the 36th Street subway station. Authorities said James rented a U-Haul van from a Philadelphia store on Monday and made his way into Brooklyn on Tuesday morning, according to the federal criminal complaint. Authorities allege that James then boarded a different subway after the attack and fled from the area. According to the complaint, authorities discovered two bags and the reflective jacket among items that were left behind at the scene.
"The first bag contained, among other items, a firearm, a plastic container containing gasoline, a torch, a U-Haul key, and multiple bank cards," the document states. "The second bag contained fireworks, which are black powder-filled explosives."
James was later arrested by NYPD officers after calling into a tipline and informing authorities of his location. "We got him," BLACK New York City Mayor Eric Adams declared during an afternoon news conference. |

Texas fathers sue school district following arrests for speaking at board meetings: 'Our rights were violated'
Two Texas fathers have filed a lawsuit against their local school district after they both were arrested separately for speaking out at board meetings. The men called for accountability Friday after they said their First and Fifth Amendment rights were violated. Dustin Clark told "America’s Newsroom" he and Jeremy Story were separately advocating for student and parental rights and hopes the lawsuit will prevent other parents from being silenced at school board meetings. "We saw a ratcheting up of kind of an oppression of some free speech and limiting what we could say," Clark said. |

BLACK-ON-WHITE: 22-Year-Old Christopher Tyson Charged In The March Murders Of Two Women In Baltimore
BLACK Baltimore man pleads guilty to strangling two women to death, gets life in prison A Baltimore man will serve life in prison after he admitted to strangling to death two women whom he solicited for sex less than a week apart in 2021, the state’s attorney’s office said. Christopher Tyson, 23, pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of first-degree murder in the killings of Ashley Lambert and Denita Barrett. The state’s attorney’s office said a judge handed down concurrent life sentences after the women’s families testified to the toll of their untimely deaths, according to the prosecutor’s office. Lambert, 37, had four children, and Barrett, 21, had two. In a statement, Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby called Tyson’s actions “sickening.” “As a mother of two girls, it pains me to think of the devastating loss of these women for the six children left behind to live without their mother,” Mosby said. “Mr. Tyson’s actions exhibited a dangerous and calculating pattern to prey on vulnerable women.” An attorney was not listed for Tyson in online court records for the two murder cases. He is being represented by the Office of the Public Defender on rape charges stemming from an incident approximately a month after Barrett and Lambert were killed. A spokeswoman for the public defender’s office declined to comment Thursday. The same prosecutor who handled the murder cases, Assistant State’s Attorney Elizabeth Stock, is prosecuting the rape case against Tyson. At the time of his arrest, Baltimore police suspected Tyson might have assaulted more women and asked for help finding victims who survived his attacks. Barrett’s sister discovered her unclothed body in the living room of her home March 21, 2021 and flagged down officers in the city’s Westport neighborhood. Paramedics pronounced Barrett dead, and her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where a pathologist performed an autopsy and ruled her death was a homicide caused by strangulation. An employee of the Deluxe Plaza Motel on Pulaski Highway called 911 around seven days later, at approximately 11:30 a.m. The staffer reported finding an unresponsive woman in a room after the occupants did not check out. Police officers and medics found Lambert face-down on the floor when they arrived March 28, 2021, the state’s attorney’s office said. She was pronounced dead in the motel. The medical examiner’s office later found blood on her face, noted that it appeared she had not dressed herself and determined she was suffocated to death with a maneuver like a chokehold, the state’s attorney’s office said. Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the area and were able to make out the last person seen with Lambert. The investigators learned that man bought something from a business in the area, got a receipt of the purchase and identified Tyson from his Visa card. Police soon labeled him as a person of interest in Barrett’s death. The Wells Fargo card also clued detectives in on Tyson’s address. Equipped with a search warrant and a battering ram, they forced their way into his residence when nobody answered. Police said they found Tyson in a second-floor bedroom. In interviews, detectives recognized Tyson’s explanations were not consistent with the evidence. Confronted with an image of the last person seen with Lambert alive, Tyson admitted it was him, according to police and prosecutors. He told police he met Lambert online and agreed to pay for sex. In the motel room, Tyson told detectives, they got into an argument, and he strangled her with a chokehold. Police and prosecutors say he later admitted to killing Barrett after arranging to pay her for sex. He said he used an application to contact Barrett and that they agreed to meet at her house. Ariel Robinson, a former contestant and winner of Food Network's Worst Cooks in America, was found guilty of homicide by child abuse in the beating death of her 3-year-old foster daughter by a Greenville County, South Carolina jury on Thursday.
It took about an hour-and-a-half for the jury to deliberate and reach their final conviction, according to local outlet WYFF. The verdict ended a four-day trial in which Ariel and her husband, Jerry "Austin" Robinson, testified. Graphic images of the injuries inflicted on Victoria "Tori" Smith were also shown in court. "In my 13-14 years as a judge, I've never seen anything like this," Judge Letitia Verdin said during Ariel's sentencing, per The Sun News. "Not even approaching it." A couple from Davenport was arrested after their 2-year-old daughter died suffering from long-term starvation, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday, homicide detectives with the Sheriff’s Office arrested 57-year-old c and 35-year-old Arhonda Tillman for negligent child abuse. An autopsy on the victim performed by the District 10 Medical Examiner’s Office determined she had no food in her stomach and weighed 9.5 pounds when she died, PCSO said. Deputies and Polk County’s fire rescue staff responded to an unresponsive child call Tuesday, according to the affidavit. The girl was found deceased in an inflatable pool that was being used as a playpen. Detectives contacted the victim’s pediatrician who said there were concerns the child may have cystic fibrosis and that the medical office attempted to make contact with the parents numerous times. The last doctor’s visit was in January 2020, according to the investigation report. Johnson, the toddler’s father, told detectives his daughter hadn’t wanted to eat much for the past two days, and when he tried to feed her she would only take a few bites. Tillman, the victim’s mother, told detectives that she attempted to feed the child a turkey sandwich Monday night, but the victim did not want to eat. |

Three other alleged gang members were also arrested alongside Mr Germine for arms smuggling, though not for the kidnapping of the group of missionaries from the Christian Aid Ministries in October 2021. The group comprised of 16 US citizens and one Canadian national. Five children were among the hostages, including an eight-month-old baby. A neighbor who did not want her name used described seeing law enforcement agents entering and leaving the home with what appeared to be boxes of evidence. Along with Cook and Jefferson, the Senate two weeks ago confirmed Lael Brainard for the Fed’s influential vice chair position. But another Biden pick, Sarah Bloom Raskin, withdrew her nomination after a key Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, joined with all Senate Republicans to oppose her confirmation. Republicans had argued that Raskin would use the Fed’s regulatory authority to discourage banks from lending to oil and gas companies. ATLANTA (AP) — Rapper Young Thug co-founded a violent street gang and promoted it in his songs and on social media, prosecutors allege in a sprawling indictment that accuses him and 27 others of racketeering and a laundry list of other crimes meant to further the gang’s interests.
The Atlanta-based rapper, whose given name is Jeffrey Lamar Williams, co-wrote the hit “This is America” with Childish Gambino, making history when it became the first hip-hop track to win the song of the year Grammy in 2019. Fulton County prosecutors say that in late 2012, he and two others founded Young Slime Life, a violent criminal street gang that’s commonly known as YSL and is affiliated with the national Bloods gang. He was being held at the Fulton County Jail on charges of conspiracy to violate Georgia’s RICO Act and participation in a criminal street gang. Also charged in the indictment were Atlanta rapper Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, and aspiring rapper Christian Eppinger, who was already in jail and is accused of shooting an Atlanta police officer six times in February. A 29-year-old woman was in the area of Kensington Avenue and Huntingdon Street when she was approached by a Black man driving a silver sedan offering her a ride and she accepted. The suspect drove to the area of 2600 Kensington Avenue where he produced a handgun, forced the victim into the back seat of the vehicle and sexually assaulted her. The mother, uncle and grandfather of a 3-year-old California girl who died during a 2021 church exorcism to rid her of evil spirits all face charges in connection with the death, authorities said.
The girl's uncle Rene Aaron Hernandez-Santos, 19, and her grandfather, Rene Trigueros Hernandez, 59, were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of felony child abuse causing death, the Santa Clara District Attorney's Office said Friday. Both participated in the 12-hour exorcism in a small, makeshift Pentecostal church in San Jose called Iglesia Apostoles y Profetas in which the child, Arely Naomi Proctor, was smothered and strangled until dying of asphyxia, prosecutors said. She told me that she loved me. Hours after the Monday morning slaying of 51-year-old Migdalia Ortega in her Ridgewood apartment, the NYPD identified the suspect as Pedro Cintron. Ortega was fighting with her boyfriend inside the apartment on Fresh Pond Road near Palmetto Street when a female neighbor showed up to see what was going on, authorities said. “During the dispute, the 48-year-old neighbor went to check on the third-floor occupant,” Deputy Chief Julie Morrill told reporters Monday afternoon. “She was in shock and fled back to her apartment. The male suspect followed her and continued shooting.” “There are shell casings throughout the hallway and stairwell.” Ortega was shot in the head and the neighbor blasted in the stomach and shoulder, cops said. Both women were rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where Ortega was pronounced dead and the neighbor remains clinging to life. Hannah Mary Tabbs: A black murderess in racist 1800s US
In 1887, the discovery of a torso near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, touched off a sensational murder trial. Kali Nicole Gross, author of Hannah Mary Tabbs and the Disembodied Torso, went in search of the woman at the centre of it all.
When a local carpenter on his way to work discovered a headless, limbless, racially ambiguous torso in a pond just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1887, it terrified the residents in the surrounding communities. Though it seemed like the kind of crime likely to go unsolved, police quickly zeroed in on a black migrant named Hannah Mary Tabbs. Her trial lasted for months with an outcome few could have predicted. Dubbed a "murderess", Tabbs and the torso case would be front-page news for months because it unearthed otherwise forbidden subjects such as adultery, sex and domestic violence. The victim was thought to be her lover, but Tabbs blamed an 18-year-old mixed-race teenager named George Wilson for the crime. Their fates became intertwined within the brutally racist criminal justice system of the time. After first reading about the case in a century-and-half old Eastern State Penitentiary scrapbook, I was desperate to learn more about Tabbs, a married woman who at the very least had been involved in a deadly, adulterous love triangle with a man ten years her junior. Tabbs was a kind of black woman that I hadn't encountered before while studying history. She knew how to put up a front when it came to respectability, but she also knew how to manipulate, threaten, and brutalise people to get what she wanted - whether it was to be feared or to engage in a risqué affair. After I decided to write about her, there were many moments when other scholars belittled the project. Some ridiculed the notion of documenting the story outright while many publishers passed on the project because Tabbs was "not sympathetic". I especially chafed at this. Was Lizzie Borden expected to be sympathetic? Why ask this of Tabbs? Did black women have to be purely good or purely victims for a mainstream audience to care about their history? But perhaps more importantly, why did they see her as undeserving of sympathy? Hannah Mary Tabbs was born in the 1850s in a slave state and grew into her womanhood during the nation's bloody Civil War. A New Jersey court has granted parole to the oldest former member of the Black Panthers after nearly five decades in prison.
Sundiata Acoli, 85, was sentenced to life in prison in 1974 for the murder of a police officer the previous year. Founded in 1966, the Black Panthers were a revolutionary black nationalist and socialist group espousing armed self-defence especially against police. Acoli was 35 years old at the time of the incident. The shooting that led to Acoli's imprisonment followed a routine traffic stop on the New Jersey Turnpike. The ensuing gunfight left a New Jersey State trooper, Werner Foerster, dead, and another wounded. At the time, Acoli was traveling with Assata and Malik Shakur, two members of the Black Liberation Army, the armed wing of the Black Panthers. Asian Suspects indicted in execution-style slaying of NYC businessman 
Four suspects have been indicted in the 2019 execution-style slaying of a Queens businessman gunned down on a Flushing street, federal authorities said Tuesday.
The suspects, Qing Ming Yu, Antony Abreu, You You and Zhe Zhang, were each indicted in Brooklyn federal court for the early-morning hit on 31-year-old Xin Gu outside a karaoke bar on Fowler Street in the neighborhood. Investigators believe Gu’s killing stemmed from a business dispute he had with his former boss at a Manhattan property development company,Qing Ming Yu, 54, according to the feds. The victim left Yu’s company and started his own outfit, attracting several clients and employees from his former workplace, the feds allege. Enraged by the perceived slight, Yu — whose business eventually shut down at the end of 2018 — allegedly hired his nephew, 34-year-old You You, to murder Gu, authorities said. You enlisted Abreu and Zhang, both 34, to help pull off the hit, according to federal authorities. Gu was gunned down by Abreu outside the karaoke bar at about 2:30 a.m. Feb. 12, 2019, where he had been celebrating the Lunar New Year, the feds allege. Zhang acted as the wheelman during the hit, picking up Abreu in a Honda Accord with fake plates after the killing, according to the feds. Three of the suspects were arrested Tuesday morning, including Yu, who was cuffed in his eight-bedroom mansion in Oyster Bay, a law enforcement source said. 'Alleged' subway shooter Frank James has been indicted after authorities say he shot multiple people on a Brooklyn train station last month.
According to the indictment from the United States District Court Eastern District of New York, a grand jury indicted James with carrying out a terror attack against a mass transit system as well as discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. If convicted on the first count, James faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. If convicted on the second count, James faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison with a maximum of life in prison. No date has been set for the arraignment.
James is accused of injuring 29 people in a Sunset Park, Brooklyn, subway station around 8:25 a.m. on the morning of April 12. James was allegedly aboard a Manhattan-bound N train during morning rush-hour when he placed a gas mask on his face, activated a smoke canister and opened fire inside the train and on the platform of the 36th Street subway station. Authorities said James rented a U-Haul van from a Philadelphia store on Monday and made his way into Brooklyn on Tuesday morning, according to the federal criminal complaint. Authorities allege that James then boarded a different subway after the attack and fled from the area. According to the complaint, authorities discovered two bags and the reflective jacket among items that were left behind at the scene.
"The first bag contained, among other items, a firearm, a plastic container containing gasoline, a torch, a U-Haul key, and multiple bank cards," the document states. "The second bag contained fireworks, which are black powder-filled explosives."
James was later arrested by NYPD officers after calling into a tipline and informing authorities of his location. "We got him," BLACK New York City Mayor Eric Adams declared during an afternoon news conference. |

Judge's ruling clears way for Arizona NAVAJO INDIAN inmate Clarence Dixon to be executed for 1978 murder of ASU student Deana Bowdoin
A judge has ruled that an Arizona prisoner convicted in the 1978 killing of a university student is mentally fit to be put to death next week, keeping on track what would be the first execution in the state in nearly eight years.
In a ruling signed shortly before midnight Tuesday and released on Wednesday, Pinal County Superior Court Judge Robert Olson said that that Clarence Dixon has not met his burden "to show that his mental state is so distorted by a mental illness that he lacks a rational understanding of the state's rationale for his execution." Dixon was convicted of murder in the killing of 21-year-old Arizona State University student Deana Bowdoin. Dixon is scheduled to be executed on May 11. Lawyers for Dixon said they will appeal the ruling to the Arizona Supreme Court. Dixon's lawyers argued Tuesday in a court in Florence, Arizona, that executing him would violate protections against executing people who are mentally unfit. They said he erroneously believes he will be executed because police at Northern Arizona University wrongfully arrested him in a previous case - a 1985 attack on a 21-year-old student. His attorneys concede he was in fact lawfully arrested at the time by Flagstaff police. Dixon was sentenced to life sentences in that case for sexual assault and other convictions. DNA samples taken while he was in prison later linked him to Bowdoin's killing, which at that point had been unsolved. LAHORE, Pakistan -- Pakistani police say they arrested eight men of the Ahmadi sect of Islam on Saturday who had opened fire on a group of Sunni Muslims the night prior, killing one and wounding another.
Senior officer Faisal Mukhtar said the Ahmadis shot at the Sunnis while they were chanting religious poems in the village of Bahuman, near Lahore in the eastern province of Punjab. One minor suspect was still missing. The killing was a rare case of violence exercised by Ahmadis, who have long held a grievance against Pakistan's majority Sunnis, who consider them heretics. Ahmadis believe that an additional prophet named Ghulam Ahmad was sent by God in the 19th century, centuries after the Prophet Muhammad. That view is at odds with the fundamental Islamic principle that Muhammad was God's final chosen messenger. Riley and Leonard were in an unblessed sexual relationship. The attack happened on March 6, 2019, and Leonard attacked the children as they slept while waiting for Riley to return home from work, according to WWL-TV. Leonard’s mother found the four victims the next day. Riley, her son and her niece were pronounced dead in the apartment, according to WWL-TV. The 14-year-old was taken to the hospital, where she died days later. Investigators said Leonard hid the hammer in a nearby garbage can and tried to clean the blood before he left the area, according to the report. He later returned with his mom to make it look like he had an alibi. After he was arrested, Leonard said he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the killing. A neighbor told deputies she heard Riley and Leonard arguing the night of the murders, according to WWL-TV. Prosecutors initially sought the death penalty in the case but later relented and decided to seek life in prison for the killer, according to WGNO. Ida Rhodes was a family member of the victims, and shortly after Leonard was sentenced, she returned to the scene with WGNO. She released balloons to honor her loved ones. “I decided today was the day that I would stand in front of this building and release balloons in my children’s names, and let the world know today I got my victory,” Rhodes told the TV station Rhodes told WGNO the sentence helped ease the pain, but it will never completely heal. “We’ve still got a long road to go,” she said, according to WGNO. “Just because we got justice today, doesn’t mean that it’s easy and we’re going to move on ASAP. (AP) — Police responding to a call about a shopper with a gun chased a man at a Michigan big-box store and shot him twice in the parking lot, according to video. “You just shot me for no reason,” DeAnthony VanAtten, 20, told officers as he lay on the ground handcuffed while they checked his injuries outside a Meijer store in East Lansing on April 25. East Lansing police released video from body-worn cameras and the store's roof Thursday and said state police were in charge of the investigation. “We are taking this situation very seriously,” Police Chief Kim Johnson said. “I know the facts have been slow to come out about this incident, and we appreciate the community’s ongoing patience.” Burnette VanAtten said her son was shot for “shopping while Black.” “He was running in fear for his life,” she told the Lansing State Journal. The incident began after a 911 dispatcher said someone had called with a weapons complaint at Meijer. BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Nick Tullier, a Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputy who was shot in the head and stomach during a July 2016 ambush that killed three other law enforcement officers during a summer of DOMESTIC TERRORISM AND INSURRECTION over the police killing of a Black criminal, died Thursday at age 47.
Tullier's death was announced on the Facebook page of is father, James Tullier, and on a companion page dedicated to Tullier's effort to recover in the years since the shooting. They did not mention the cause of death, but Tullier had struggled for years to recover from the 2016 shooting. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards ordered that flags fly at half-staff over the Capitol and other public buildings in East Baton Rouge Parish until sunset Friday. He called Tullier, a corporal in the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, and the other officers shot in the July 17, 2016, shooting “true heroes.” The Sunday morning ambush came less than two weeks after Alton Sterling, a Black Baton Rouge resident, was fatally shot in a struggle with two white Baton Rouge police officers outside a convenience store on July 5. Video of Sterling's killing spread on social media and led to protests against the police in Baton Rouge and beyond. No officers were ever charged for Sterling's death, although the local government paid a $4.5 million BLACKmail settlement with his family years later. Two days after the Sterling shooting, a BLACK ASSASSIN sniper in Dallas killed five police officers and wounded seven others during DOMESTIC TERRORIST INSURRECTION protests over the shootings of Sterling and the July 6 shooting death of Philando Castile. The July 17 ambush ended when the suspect was shot and killed. He was identified as Gavin Long, 29, of Kansas City, Missouri, a Black military veteran. Andre Timothy Jackson had chosen state District Judge Denise Collins to sentence him instead of the jury that had found him guilty of murder on Tuesday in the death of Josue Flores. The accused maintained his innocence. Authorities say the sixth grader was killed as he walked home from a science club meeting at a school just north of downtown Houston on May 17, 2016. He was only two blocks from home when he was stabbed more than 20 times. Witnesses told officers they heard loud screams and saw the boy struggling with a man. Prosecutors say they have not been able to determine a motive for the attack. “Josue Flores is somebody that will always remain with us in our community because of the future that was lost. SNELLVILLE, Ga. - Police said a baby girl died Tuesday when she was left in a car for several hours after her father was arrested for violating his probation in Snellville.
Police charged the father, 20-year-old Davied Japez McCorry Whatley, with second-degree murder. Police said the child, Nova Grace Whatley-Trejo, died from being exposed in the car. Officials with the Snellville Police Department said, shortly after 2:15 p.m., Whatley entered the lobby of their department to pick up a gun police had in their possession. While he was there, police learned that Whatley had a warrant out for his arrest for a probation violation. He was arrested and taken to the Gwinnett County Jail. Police said it's standard to conduct a background check for anyone picking up a firearm at the police department. Later that night, police say a woman brought her 8-month-old granddaughter to the Piedmont Eastside Emergency Room. The baby girl, who has been identified as Whatley's daughter, was pronounced dead. The grandmother told hospital staff that the girl had been left in Whatley's car after a traffic stop. Investigators said, at some point, Whatley told the child's grandmother the child was in the car. When police were notified about the death, they found Whatley's car parked near the dumpsters at the Snellville City Hall. Investigators say Whatley was recorded the entire time from when he walked into the police department to when he was booked at the jail. At no point did he mention his daughter had been left in the vehicle. "I'm absolutely astounded someone could leave an 8-month-old in the car, park away from our building and walk up here knowing that child was in the car," Snellville Police Department Detective Jeff Manely said. Whatley was released on bond related to his initial arrest for a probation violation, but law enforcement took him into custody Wednesday on murder charges. NEW YORK -- Rapper Kidd Creole, who was a founding member of Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, was sentenced Wednesday to 16 years in prison for stabbing a homeless man to death on a New York City street.
The 62-year-old rapper, born Nathaniel Glover, was found guilty of manslaughter last month for the death of John Jolly, who was stabbed twice in the chest with a steak knife in midtown Manhattan in August 2017. Prosecutors accused Glover of stabbing Jolly after becoming enraged because he thought Jolly was gay and was hitting on him. After stabbing Jolly, who was 55, Glover headed to his workplace nearby, changed his clothes and washed the knife, prosecutors said. Glover was arrested the following day. “Mr. Jolly’s death was devastating to his family and those who knew him,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a news release after the sentencing. “Every life we lose to violent crime ripples throughout our entire city, and we will continue to ensure everyone in our borough can live their lives with the sense of safety and security they deserve.” The New York Times reports that Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Michele Rodney appeared to take issue with arguments made by Glover's lawyer, Scottie Celestin, who said during the trial that Glover had felt threatened in part because Jolly was homeless. “A life is a life is a life,” Rodney said, adding as she sentenced Glover that the killing was not “somehow justified because the person is homeless.” |

A 20-year-old man lead authorities on a high-speed chase Monday night through six counties along Florida’s Turnpike and Interstate 95 before he was captured in a field by a K-9 named Zorro, police said.
Richard St. Leger, 20, of Pompano Beach, drove a stolen Mercedes SUV through Orange County, Osceola, Indian River, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie County, before the pursuit ended in Martin County, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies deployed stop sticks to flatten the vehicle's tires and a K-9 named Zorro then helped secure the fleeing suspect, the Martin County Sheriff's Office said in a press release. The chase began near Orlando and ended some 150 miles later near Hobe Sound. "The danger to innocent lives related to this crime cannot be overstated," the sheriff’s office said. Deputies in Martin County, which is north of West Palm Beach, were alerted to the chase through an alert from the Florida Highway Patrol. Video footage from a sheriff's office aircraft showed the car speeding along without headlights after deputies attempted to stop it. The sheriff's office said the ground pursuit was terminated because of the dangerous speeds, but the aircraft continued to track the stolen SUV. Deputies were able to deploy the stop sticks to deflate the vehicle's tires. The driver ran from the vehicle and into a wooded area. "Multiple deputies followed along with K-9 Zorro," the sheriff’s office said. After he ignored multiple commands to surrender, deputies unleashed the dog "into the woods ending this dangerous criminal joyride." St. Leger faces multiple charges including grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing with a disregard for safety, and obstruction. The passenger in St. Leger’s stolen vehicle, 28-year-old DeVonte Martin of Boynton Beach, was also arrested. |

MUSLIM-named Mohammed Almaru, of Tinley Park, charged with murder of 17-year-old daughter, Mia Maro 
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Tinley Park man has been charged with killing his teenage daughter, Mia Maro, at their home over the weekend.
Tinley Park Police Chief Matthew Walsh said, around 5 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to Mia's home in the 7800 block of West 167th Street in Tinley Park, for a possible death investigation, and found her dead in the lower level of the home. Officers also found Mia's father, 42-year-old Mohammed Almaru, with superficial self-inflicted wounds to his wrist and throat. Walsh said Almaru also had ingested pills, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center for treatment. Meantime, an autopsy determined Mia died of multiple injuries, and her death was ruled a homicide. Walsh said Mia had suffered "serious bruising throughout her whole body," but there was no one injury that clearly caused her death. "It's an absolute tragic loss," Walsh said. "A lot of officers and others in community have been calling me. They have children of the same age. They know this girl. They liked this girl. They're friends with her." Albaru was intubated at the hospital, and detectives were not able to question him until late Monday afternoon. He has since been charged with first-degree murder in Mia's death, although police have not said what evidence led them to seek charges. The circumstances of and motive for Mia's death are still unclear. "We don't know. He's not cooperating. He's still under medical care," Walsh said. Walsh said there is evidence of "some domestic stuff" in the past involving the family, but police had only been called to the home one time in the past for a medical emergency involving Mia's mother. The chief declined to speculate if there had been any history of physical abuse before Mia's death. Tinley Park Mayor Michael Glotz offered his condolences to Mia's family, as well as her classmates at Andrew High School, where she was a senior. "By all accounts, she was a lovely young woman at the very beginning of her life, a life that she will now never get to fulfill," Glotz said. A Huntington Beach man was convicted Tuesday of special-circumstances murder for the brutal slaying of a man and woman in a Newport Beach condominium, killings apparently driven by his jealousy at those he believed were in relationships with an estranged girlfriend.
That Jamon Buggs shot Darren Partch, 38, and Wendi Miller, 48, to death on April 19, 2019 was never disputed during his two week-long trial in a Newport Beach courtroom, with Buggs attorneys instead arguing that he committed the slayings in the "heat of passion" and should be convicted of a lesser charge. The jury deliberated for about three hours. Buggs showed no reaction to the verdicts as they were read in court. Sentencing is set for June 3. Buggs faces up to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office opted not to seek the death penalty against Buggs. But (alleged) "racially charged comments" made by DA Todd Spitzer during internal deliberations that led to the death penalty decision ignited a controversy when they surfaced earlier this year. According to internal DA memos, Spitzer asked about "the race of Buggs’ former girlfriends and told his senior management that he “knows many Black people who enhance their status by only "dating" ‘White women.’” Buggs is Black; Partch and Miller were White, as is Buggs’ ex-sexfriend, Samanta Brewers. In a statement released following the verdict, Spitzer said, “The allegations of any racial animus or bias against the defendant are baseless and quite frankly offensive.” The DA added that his comments were in response to arguments that Buggs’ defense attorneys repeated during the criminal trial. Buggs wrongly believed that Partch was in a relationship with Brewers. Miller had no ties to Buggs, and had only met Partch hours before her killing. “The motive, probably as old as human history, is jealousy,” Deputy District Attorney David Porter said. “He doesn’t want anybody to be with Samantha if he can’t.” Defense attorneys alleged that Buggs mistook Miller for his ex-girlfriend when he burst in on Miller and Partch having sex, telling jurors during the trial that Buggs wasn’t prepared for how he would react when faced with evidence of what he long feared. “This is not a whodunit,” Alternate Defender Michael Hill said. “This case is a why did he do it.” Buggs and Brewers met at a Riverside gym, where he was working as a trainer, and quickly began dating before moving in together at a Huntington Beach apartment. Buggs’ attorneys said the two saw themselves as a “power couple,” as Brewers, with Buggs training, won body building competitions. Brewers during the trial described her relationship with Buggs as “toxic.” The prosecutor told jurors that the relationship ended in late 2018, though defense attorneys contend both Buggs and Brewers continued to be in contact and meet with each other, ignoring restraining orders they had each taken out. In late March 2019, Brewers sent Buggs an emailing saying she had “moved on,” adding “I don’t know why you can’t leave me alone.” In the days and weeks that followed, Buggs began focusing on men he believed were in relationship with Brewers. Partch also met Brewers at a gym, and exchanged social media contact info with her, but according to testimony in the trial he was never in a romantic or sexual relationship with Brewers. The other man Buggs was accused of targeting, Jared Young, was in a relationship with Brewers. Buggs called Partch and told him to stay away from Brewers, according to testimony, and confronted Young at his business and gave him the same ultimatum. He also looked up addresses for both men and Brewers and visited Partch’s residence multiple times, according to evidence presented during the trial. On the night of April 19, 2019, Buggs, armed with a .38 caliber revolver, went to Partch’s condominium. When an acquaintance texted him to ask what he was doing, Buggs responded shortly before midnight by writing “Street business baby.” Partch and Miller met at a nightclub that night and went back to Partch’s condominium, where Partch apparently forgot to lock the door. Buggs entered the condominium and interrupted Partch and Miller having sex. Partch apparently stood up, prosecutors said, while Miller rolled off the bed. Buggs fired four shots at Partch, hitting him first in the shoulder, which spun him around before a second bullet hit him in the back of the head, according to testimony. Buggs was accused of then walking up to Miller, putting the gun either directly up against her head or only inches away, and then pulling the trigger. “It was barbaric, it was cruel,” Porter said. “Even saying it was heinous doesn’t accurate describe what was happening. In a manner of seconds the defendant became a cold-blooded killer.” Buggs’ attorneys say the killings were the result of a “slow burn” within Buggs from months of pressure in his relationship with Brewers building up. Buggs had become “consumed” with finding out if Brewers was with another man, the defense attorneys said. “He walks in the room and all his fears, all his suspicions, the thing he has been consumed of for days and weeks leading up to this event come to fruition,” Hill added. The prosecutor countered that there was no evidence that Buggs mistook Miller for Brewers, telling jurors that Partch was Buggs’ target and he could have killed Miller since she witnessed the slaying. Less than a day after killing Partch and Miller, Buggs went to an Irvine apartment complex where he wrongly believed Young, the man Brewers had begun dating, was living. A woman sitting in her living room screamed when she saw Buggs on her second-story balcony, leading Buggs to quickly flee. As he climbed down, Buggs apparently fired a shot from the revolver he was carrying, leaving a bullet later recovered by police in an eave above the balcony. Irvine investigators set up a surveillance at the apartment complex, and the next night Buggs returned. Officers tried to pull Buggs over, kicking off a pursuit and search through a residential neighborhood that ended with Buggs arrest. A bag with a gun in it was found in a nearby backyard. Ballistics tests tied the gun to the Newport Beach killings and the Irvine shooting. DNA evidence tied Buggs to the revolver and the bag it was found in. The race of Buggs, the victims and his ex-girlfriend was not part of arguments during the criminal trial. But the potential impact of the racial comments made in the lead-up to the trial remain unclear. BARSTOW, Calif. (KNX) – The parents of Jamari Mendez, a 1-year-old boy in Barstow were arrested Tuesday in connection to their son's death.
On Monday, Pomona officers responded to the Pomona Valley Hospital just before 8:00 p.m. after a child was found dead upon arriving at the hospital. Detectives noticed the child “sustained injuries consistent with ongoing abuse”, as well as signs of trauma including “lesions, bruising and burn marks.” Pomona officers contacted the Barstow Police Department who began investigating the death by going to the child’s home on East Virginia Way, as well as the hospital. Detectives later learned the boy’s parents, Ricardo Mendez, 27, and Atanita Miller, 24, went to Mendez’s family home in Pomona and when the family members noticed the body in the car. “Some of Mendez’s family members immediately drove the victim to the Pomona Valley Hospital for treatment,” the Barstow Police Department said. “Ricardo Mendez and Antanita Miller stayed at the family home and did not initially go to the hospital.” Miller went to the hospital where she was arrested. Mendez fled the house by was found and arrested by Pomona Police. During a search warrant, police found items they believe were used to assault the child. UPPER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) — A mother is charged with the attempted murder of her two children and a 22-year-old neighbor in Bucks County, authorities say. The two boys, ages 13 and 9, will give the gift of life to others as their organs will be donated, Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub said in a press conference on Monday afternoon.
The boys are on life support Monday night, being kept alive to donate their organs through Gift of Life. Following the organ transplants, his office is prepared to upgrade 38-year-old Trinh Nguyen’s charges to two counts of homicide. “Both children will give the gift of life to others as their organs will be transplanted, once that occurs we will update these charges to two counts of homicide,” Weintraub said. Upper Makefield Township police were called to the 100 block of Timber Ridge Road just after 7 a.m. on Monday. Weintraub says a 22-year-old neighbor told officers that Nguyen handed him a box of photos and asked him to give it to her ex-husband. When the neighbor turned around to face Nguyen, he saw her pointing a gun at his face, pulling the trigger twice but the gun did not fire. The neighbor then embraced Nguyen and was able to disarm her before she ran off and fled in a 2018 Toyota Sienna minivan. Officers spoke with the mother of the 22-year-old neighbor and went inside the home to check on the children. Both boys were found alive in their separate beds suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The officers rushed them to an area hospital in an attempt to save their lives. Weintraub says officials at Washington Crossing United Methodist Church alerted police that Nguyen was inside the minivan in the church’s parking lot. Nguyen was apprehended and taken to a local medical center due to the fact that she was under the influence of drugs. She has since been medically cleared to be arrested. While detectives look into an official motive, Eyewitness News learned Nguyen was set to be evicted after a judge issued an order of possession on April 14. A 14-year-old Trenton boy was arrested and charged in the March shooting death of another city teen, authorities said Monday.

Hispanic Cape Coral man found guilty in 2019 case involving sexual molestation of a child 
A Cape Coral man has been found guilty in a case involving the sexual molestation of a child.
On Thursday, following a three-day trial, a jury found Benjamin Perez Rodriguez, 64, guilty on charges of sexual battery of a child younger than 12 and lewd or lascivious molestation. After a child told a parent about being sexually abused by the defendant in 2019, the parent contacted Cape Coral police and an investigation began. The investigation led to Rodriguez' identification. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office assisted, apprehending and transporting the defendant to Florida from Puerto Rico. A Shasta Lake couple was sentenced to prison on Monday for bringing a Guatemalan family to the U.S., harboring them until their visas expired and unlawfully forcing them to work for minimal to no pay.
The defendants, Nery A. Martinez Vasquez, 54, and his wife Maura N. Martinez, 54, had previously pleaded guilty in August 2021 to the charge of conspiracy to commit forced labor. An indictment outlining the allegations against Vasquez and Martinez was brought in 2019 by the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California. The couple owned Latino's Mexican Restaurant in Shasta Lake and Redding Carpet Cleaning & Janitorial Services, the indictment said. On Monday, Vasquez was sentenced to six and a half years in prison, while Martinez received a three-year prison sentence. Both defendants were sentenced to three years of supervised release and a fine of $25,000. The defendants were also required to pay $300,000 in restitution to seven victims. According to court documents, the defendants convinced the victims — a Guatemalan woman and her two minor daughters, aged 15 and 8 — to come to the U.S. in August 2016 by falsely promising them a better life. The defendants then exploited the family's immigration status and inability to speak English, court documents said. Vasquez and Martinez arranged for the family to enter the U.S. with temporary visitor visas and went on to cause them to violate the visa terms and stay in the country illegally, according to the indictment. From September 2016 to February 2018, the defendants used various coercive means to force their victims into working long hours of physically demanding work, seven days a week, for minimal to no pay, officials said. The defendants kept the two daughters away from school and working at their cleaning businesses by telling the victims that that they’d be arrested by immigration authorities if they attempted to go to school. The couple also imposed a debt on the victims to prevent them from returning to Guatemala, according to the indictment. The defendants housed the victims in a dilapidated, unheated trailer with no running water, according to authorities. |

Authorities in Texas have identified human remains as belonging to missing 29-year-old Taylor Pomaski.
“The Institute of Forensic Science determined the remains to be that of Taylor Pomaski,” Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland told Law&Crime in an email. “The investigation is still open and active and homicide investigators are diligent on bringing this case to a close.” Gilliland and the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office did not respond to a Law&Crime request for comment on cause and manner of death. Investigators found remains in December as part of the investigation. Pomaski disappeared April 25, 2021 after going to a party, authorities have said. Her family reported her missing on May 11, saying she uncharacteristically did not reach out on Mother’s Day, which was also her father’s birthday. Authorities have never announced charges in the case, but amid the disappearance, a prosecutor in Montgomery County, Texas, described her boyfriend sexpal Kevin Ware, 41, as a suspect in her murder. Witnesses said that Ware and Pomaski had a “violent fight,” according to KTRK. Ware, who played tight end in a brief NFL career in the early 2000s, allegedly began to no-show court dates in drug and weapon charges in Montgomery County, and was later arrested for that. “He was out on bond,” Pomaski’s mother Leslie Mandeville told KTRK in a November report. “He had his chance. He broke his bond. Philadelphia: 13-year-old boy shot in the head is in critical conditional, 2 (Blacks) arrested, police say
Philadelphia police officers arrested two suspects Sunday evening following a shooting incident that left a 13-year-old boy in the hospital, police said.
Elijah Simmons, 19, and Caresa McFarland, 32, were both arrested following the incident, which happened Saturday, and face different charges in connection to the shooting, Fox 29 of Philadelphia reported. The unidentified 13-year-old victim was shot in the head Saturday and was transported to a local hospital, police said. He remains in critical condition. The boy was not a target of the shooting and his injury is believed to be an accident, police said. The Arby's fast food chain is cooperating with authorities after an employee allegedly assaulted a customer with hot grease.
Shea Denise Peoples, an Arby's employee in Alabama, is accused of throwing hot grease on a woman in her thirties after a dispute in the drive-thru of a restaurant. The alleged victim had two children in the car with her, according to local outlet NBC 12. "The actions of the former employee in Hueytown, Alabama, were reprehensible," an Arby's spokesperson said in a statement. "We immediately terminated the offender, and we are cooperating with the local authorities in their investigation. Our heart goes out to the guest, and we are working to help support their recovery." The victim reportedly suffered second-degree burns and was rushed to an area hospital. Peoples was arrested for first-degree assault and was booked into the Jefferson County jail. She was released Monday on a $30,000 bond. Hueytown Police warned local outlets that the court system is backed up, and it may be a while before Peoples sees her day in court. "We are still collecting evidence," Hueytown Police Chief Mike Yarbrough said, according to NBC 12. "We have requested the video footage from Arby’s. We expect to get that. North Carolina infant siblings die after found unresponsive, parents arrested, police say
A North Carolina mom and her boyfriend were arrested Saturday after the woman’s two young children were found unresponsive.
Zharia Noel and Ahmene Butler, both 21, have each been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter with two counts of felony child abuse, police said.
Rocky Mount Police Department responded to a service call about two unresponsive juveniles around 9:20 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Drew St., police said in a press release. Paramedics transferred the two juveniles, who were 1-year and one-month old, to UNC Nash Healthcare where they were both pronounced deceased. Later Saturday, police arrested Noel and Butler. They each received a $100,000 unsecured bond. Police have not released additional details about the circumstances of the children’s death. A PIO officer was not available for comment Sunday evening. WRAL reported that the children were found in a parked car, but police did not independently confirm this. Police said their investigation continues and that further charges are possible once the medical examiner's office completes its report. |

This all started Wednesday morning around 9 when 32-year-old negro Jeremy Reynolds allegedly killed 3 people at the Broadway Inn in Biloxi: Mohammad Moeini, 51, Broadway Inn owner; Laura Lehman, 61, employee and resident; and Chad Green, 55, employee and resident. The gunman fled the scene in a Mercedes that belonged to one of the victims. Next, the Gulfport Police Department responded to the area of Magnolia Avenue and Rio Grande Street where Reynolds carjacked, shot, and killed 52-year-old William Waltman, a public works contractor with the city. Reynolds fled in the stolen vehicle and ran into Canal Grocery. Two employees managed to escape before he barricaded himself inside. Police tried to make contact but never received a response. (Black) Florida woman arrested after 'gut-wrenching' video shows her slapping baby, police say
A Florida woman has been arrested after video posted to social media purportedly shows her slapping her infant child in the face, authorities said.
Tya Posley, 23, was charged with one count of cruelty toward a child/abuse after police were alerted Tuesday to a "disturbing" video that was circulating online, the Sanford Police Department said.
Posley was identified as the woman in the video yelling, "Your daddy wants to post s--- right, he want to f---ing post s--- and not answer the God d--- phone. I hate your a--," according to an arrest report obtained by FOX35 Orlando. The report said Posley appears to slap the one-year-old child in the face and back in the video. After viewing the video, police said officers conducted a welfare check at Posley’s residence in the Windchase Apartment complex where officers located Posley and the infant. Police said investigators were told Posley’s alleged abuse of the infant had been going on for a year, the station reported. Police Chief Cecil Smith said the video, which appears to no longer be available online, shows that what the "helpless" infant endured was "gut-wrenching and infuriating." The baby was removed from Posley’s custody and placed into the care of Child Protective Services. |

A Dallas woman with a warrant out for her arrest who allegedly led deputies on a car chase shortly after midnight on Saturday was eventually apprehended in an apartment complex.
Marlene Choates, 26, was booked into the Suzanne Lee Kays Detention Facility and charged with evading arrest in a vehicle, according to jail records. She is also facing a charge for the manufacture and intent to deliver of a controlled substance between one and four grams in Rockwall County, which is just east of Dallas. A deputy tried to pull Choates over after he spotted her vehicle with the rear license plate light out, but she refused to stop, according to the Dallas County Sheriff's Department. Choates eventually got out of her car and ran on foot into the Volara Apartments parking lot, where police caught up with her and arrested her, the sheriff's office said. |

Higgins approached the 22-year-old victim inside the Main Street station in Flushing around 9:45 a.m. that day, grabbed her by the arm and forced her to walk upstairs and out of the station, police said. He then forced her to walk with him down Main Street toward Kissena Boulevard, and brought her into the lobby of a building, cops said. There, Higgins “forcibly restrained” the victim and exposed his penis, police said. A jury found a 42-year-old Dayton man guilty in the deaths of three people on North Gettysburg Avenue more than a year ago.
Octavius Lamont Humphrey’s trial for murder, felonious assault and having weapons under disability started in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court last week. He was found guilty on all counts and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 11, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office. The case stems from the deadly shooting of 45-year-old Dontay Alston of Dayton, 48-year-old Michael A. Jackson of Dayton and 37-year-old Justin Wilson of Wilmington. In November 2020, Dayton police were called to investigate a shooting in the 2600 block of North Gettysburg Avenue. One of the victims called 911 and “was barely coherent,” according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center records. Within less than a minute the victim was reportedly no longer responding to the dispatcher. Major Jason Hall previously called the shootings a “targeted attack” and said it was connected to robbery involving drug sales. |

A Georgia mom accused of starving her daughter to death will not serve time in jail.
Instead, a judge sentenced 30-year-old Porscha Mickens of Buford, Ga., to 20 years of probation on Tuesday, after she accepted a plea deal on second-degree murder and child cruelty charges, per WSB-TV. According to the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Porscha and her husband, Jerrail Maurice Mickens, 32, were arrested in October 2020, four months after their 5-year-old daughter, Kylie Mickens — who weighed approximately 7 lbs. — died at an Atlanta hospital. After an investigation and an autopsy, detectives determined Kylie's cause of death was homicide — more specifically, "dehydration and malnutrition due to medical neglect." In November 2020, Jerrail died in a motorcycle crash while out on bond. In court, Assistant District Attorney Anna Fowler argued that Kylie was "looking like a mummy" when she died. NEW YORK - Police are searching for a man who
stabbed a woman multiple times while she was working at a laundromat in the Bronx.
Investigators say the horrific attack happened during an attempted robbery. Fellow employees tell CBS2's Natalie Duddridge the woman is still hospitalized and had surgery for slashes across her face and body. They also say they are scared to come to work, fearful the suspect could come back. Surveillance shows an unidentified man with a garbage bag enter a laundromat on Boston Road at 3 a.m. Friday. Police say video shows him rummaging behind the counter, attempting to get into the cash register. Then investigators say he pushed a 37-year-old female employee and stabbed her multiple times in the head face and body. "That's pure evil right there, pure evil," one customer told Duddridge. "It's sad to know that you're not safe anywhere," said another customer. "To know that you're trying to make an honest living and to know that you're attacked like this." Employees said the suspect tried to cover the woman, who lay bloody on the ground, with a laundry cart, then stabbed a 45-year-old customer in the hand and ran off without getting any cash. |

Police say Quintez Adams, 28, is wanted for the reported sexual assault of a woman on the SEPTA Broad Street Line near the Girard Avenue stop on Sunday afternoon. He is also accused of a sexual assault near the corner of Seventh and Market streets on April 4. Police say Adams is 6 foot 2 inches and 140 pounds, and that he is known to hang out around the corner of 13th and Market streets. |

NEW YORK (AP) — A former vice president of the National Basketball Players Association was arrested Wednesday and added to a criminal case in which 18 former NBA players were charged with illegally pocketing millions of dollars by defrauding the league’s health and welfare benefit plan.
The rewritten indictment added Keyon "Drooling" Dooling to the case first brought in October, when federal officials said a number of former NBA players combined to collect about $2.5 million from the benefit plan.
Dooling, who was a union officer for eight years and eventually became its first vice president, was among three individuals added to the indictment Wednesday. Dooling, now an assistant coach in the Utah Jazz organization, spent parts of 13 seasons in the NBA as a member of seven different teams. In a statement, the Jazz said Dooling made the club aware of the indictment Wednesday morning. “It is a case concerning his time at the National Basketball Players Association, prior to him joining our organization. He has been put on paid administrative leave,” the Jazz said. “Due to the ongoing legal process, we will refrain from further comment.” The Jazz play Game 6 of their Western Conference first-round playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks at home on Thursday. Dooling was arrested Wednesday in Utah, officials said. Also added to the indictment were a doctor and a dentist who officials said were medical providers who facilitated the scheme. Dooling, officials said, “allegedly engaged in the scheme and recruited other co-conspirators to join the scheme.” All were charged with health care fraud and wire conspiracy for a fraud that authorities say spanned from at least 2017 to 2020. In October, a prosecutor said each defendant made false claims that ranged from $65,000 to $420,000. The updated indictment Wednesday said Dooling pocketed about $350,000 of plan proceeds illegally. In all, it said about $5 million in false claims were submitted, though claimants did not receive as much in proceeds. Dooling previously was the wellness counselor for the union, helping oversee its mental health and wellness department. He also wrote a book in 2014 discussing, among other things, how he struggled with stress after being sexually abused as a child. A Collier County elementary school teacher has been arrested after deputies with the Collier County Sheriff's Office say he placed cameras in the school's restrooms.
Diego Alberto Rojas-Pulido, 37, of Naples, was arrested Monday and taken into custody after officials say he placed cameras in the boys' restrooms at Pinecrest Elementary School, in Immokalee. Rojas-Pulido faces a charge of video voyeurism, which is when the offender is aged 24 or older and the victim is 16 or younger. That charge is a second-degree felony. According to a social media post from the Collier County Sheriff's Office, deputies said three students discovered what appeared to be a video recording device attached to a metal tissue box in the restroom adjacent to the classroom where Rojas-Pulido was teaching on April 19. According to deputies, on Wednesday one of the students told a school counselor, who immediately reported it to the school principal, according to the post. According to that post, the school district then fired Rojas-Pulido. The school district didn't respond to requests for comment Tuesday evening. Deputies arrived art [stet] Rojas-Pulido's home, at the 14870 block of Pleasant Bay Lane, where they found Rojas-Pulido attempting to die by suicide. He was transported to a Lee County hospital for treatment Thursday, where he was later served with the Collier County arrest warrant, officials said. After nearly three years of delay, Kartabrata’s trial began Tuesday in Denver District Court, where he faces three first-degree murder charges in connection with the deaths of the McDaniels. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WHNT) — A former resident of Tuscaloosa was sentenced in federal court Wednesday after instructing an undercover employee with the FBI how to transfer money to Al Qaeda.
Alaa Mohd Abusaad, 26, was sentenced to 90 months in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release for concealment of terrorism financing. She pleaded guilty to the charge in September 2019.
The U.S Attorney’s Office said in a press release that Abusaad instructed an undercover FBI employee about how to send money to mujahedeen, fighters engaged in jihad, between February and April 2018. According to an affidavit from an FBI special agent, Abusaa sent multiple messages to the undercover employee during that time. One of those messages said, “It’s [money] always needed. You can’t have a war without weapons. You can’t prepare a soldier without equipment.” Officials said Abusaad also advised the undercover employee how to send money in a way that law enforcement officials wouldn’t be able to detect, including fake names and addresses when conducting electronic money transfers. Man who defaced Pride mural in Florida ordered to write 25-page essay on Pulse shooting
A man who defaced a Florida LBGTQ memorial has been ordered to write a 25-page essay on the Pulse nightclub shooting and its 49 victims.
Alexander Jerich, 20, pleaded guilty last month to criminal mischief and reckless driving in connection with a June 2021 incident in which he left 15-foot tire marks across a newly unveiled QUEER Pride flag intersection in Delray Beach, court documents show.
Jerich, with a Trump flag waving from the back of his white pickup, "stopped at the intersection and then intentionally accelerated the vehicle in an unreasonable unsafe manner in a short amount of time commonly referred to as 'burnout,'" said an arrest warrant. The tires left a mark more than halfway across the nearly $17,000 mural, which had celebrated its ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 12, marking Pride month and the anniversary of the Pulse massacre. Two days later, Jerich was attending a rally celebrating former President Donald Trump's birthday when he skidded dangerously across the intersection, the warrant said. Another person who attended the rally, who identified himself as a gay man and spoke with police, said that before Jerich drove over the QUEER Pride flag colors, someone had shouted to him "tear up that gay intersection." Jerich told Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Scott Suskauer during a hearing last week that he has "had problems in the past with fitting in," The Palm Beach Post reported. "I was just trying to fit in and be accepted," Jerich said. Suskauer did not hand down a sentence; Jerich will be sentenced in June. But in the meantime, he told Jerich he was to write a 25-page essay on the 2016 mass shooting at Pulse, a SODOMITE SEX nightclub in Orlando. |

(Black) Mom accused of threatening Cocoa High School over lunch portion was misidentified, family says
A probable cause affidavit filed by Cocoa police on April 7 says Smith left a voicemail with Cocoa High School the evening of Feb. 3 threatening to “blow that mother [expletive] up” over the amount of food her son was being given at lunch.
The voicemail was just one of four bomb threats made to the school from February to March, prompting an FBI investigation after police found two of the threats were made outside of Florida.
Smith’s son, who was no longer at the school by the time the April 7 affidavit was filed, had been in a verbal argument with a cafeteria worker the day the threat was made because he wanted extra food, police said. An officer who claimed to have had numerous encounters with Smith as recent as January said he recognized her voice from the message on the school’s answering machine, the affidavit stated. Smith faces a felony charge of making a false report to bomb state property and a misdemeanor charge of interfering with school administrative functions. When Smith bonded out of the Brevard County jail Thursday afternoon, she embraced her sister, who told News 6 Smith was misidentified. ‘’She’s been falsely accused based on documentation that was messed up at Cocoa High School,’’ Andrea Johnson said. Johnson said the phone number on the school caller ID was not Smith’s number. News 6 called the number listed in the police report but it was out of service. Smith’s family also claimed the student named in the arrest report is not Smith’s son. ‘’It’s all going to be cleared up and we’re going to take care of her, but there are definitely some people who need to be held accountable because this is not the way that it’s supposed to go,’’ Johnson said. |

Texas officials identify missing (Black) National Guard soldier as rescue efforts remain underway
(CNN)Texas officials have identified Bishop E. Evans as the National Guard soldier who went missing on Friday as he attempted to rescue two migrants who were crossing the Rio Grande River.
The Texas Military Department (TMD) said in a news release that Evans, a specialist, is a 22-year-old field artilleryman from Arlington, Texas, and has served in the guard for almost two years. Evans was deployed to Kuwait with assignments in Iraq as part of Operation Spartan Shield before serving on Texas' southern border, according to the release. CNN reported Friday Evans was assigned to Operation Lone Star, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's effort to combat what he has called a crisis at the US-Mexico border. Roswell teen shot in both legs, HISPANIC man arrested
ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – A 23-year-old Roswell man was arrested for allegedly shooting a teenager late Tuesday night. Juan Silvas was arrested after police say he shot the teen during a fight.
Police say the two got into it over threats Silva made against a woman when Silvas shot the teen once in each leg. The teen was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. When police searched for Silvas, they say he tried to escape through the back window of a home. Silvas is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and child abuse.
